John Stiles is a Toronto-based writer/filmmaker. He was born in
Wolfville Nova Scotia in 1966, lived briefly in England as a child and
was raised in nearby Port Williams, Nova Scotia. His father, David
Stiles taught chemistry at Acadia University and his mother, Victoria
was a homemaker. John has one brother, Mark and a sister, Susie. John
attended Horton District High School in Greenwhich, Nova Scotia and
graduated from The University of Kings College in Halifax in 1989 with
a degree in History. John's first short story appeared in Storyteller
Magazine in 1997. John has published fiction and poetry in such
journals as the Literary Review of Canada and Pagitica and has served
as staff writer for Spin productions in Toronto. In the spring of 2000
John received completion funding from Much Music for his rock and roll
documentary, 'the smalls...er whatever.' Insomniac Press will publish
John`s début novel The Insolent Boy.
