‘Peripheral’ Review
Image
Stars: Hannah Arteton, Rosie Day, Tom Conti, Jenny Seagrove, Elliot James Langridge, Connor Byrne, Belinda Stewart-Wilson | Written by Dan Schaffer | Directed by Paul Hyett

Paul Hyett’s debut movie The Seasoning House blew me away. With its hard-hitting story and an incredible performance from Rosie Day, It was one of my favourite films of 2013. He followed it up with something completely different, the highly entertaining werewolf movie set on a train Howl, so I was now very much looking forward to checking out Peripheral.

Peripheral is once again, completely different from the directors other movies. This time more sci-fi but still entering into body horror territory. We follow Bobbi Johnson whose debut novel has become a huge hit but also sparked riots across England. Now struggling with her second novel, a stalker and trying to stay off drugs, her publishing company give her a new computer and editing software that...

The Brother (2016)
Canadian director-producer launches UK film fund
The Brother (2016)
Exclusive: Alchemy Fund aimed at supporting films in the £1m-£10m range.

London and Vancouver-based director and producer Ryan Bonder is launching Alchemy Film Fund, which will look to invest in projects in the £1m-£10m budget-range.

Backed by “a small stable of private investors” who have previously backed Bonder’s own slate of films, the fund will look to invest in film and TV projects via Eis schemes.

According to Border, whose sophomore feature The Brother (2016) was backed by the same private investors and Telefilm Canada, Alchemy will offer debt, tax credit and equity finance.

Bonder said: “The focus will be on unique director-led projects we believe have strong cross-over appeal.”

The fund will also look to back event-cinema projects: “While independent films struggles to find space in the theatrical market, filmmakers must become more creative in how their films are marketed and viewed,” he said.

“You have to offer something different and unique to reach...

Steve Oram Says Its Walls Were Blood
Steve Oram
Steve Oram offered horror and laughs in equal measure as the homicidally angry Chris in Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers. For a future film, he’s planning to cut out even the dark comedy and focus solely on the horror, as he’s set to star in Its Walls Were Blood alongside Edward Hogg and Pollyanna McIntosh.Blood, a title that reads like the worst ever TripAdvisor hotel review, is planned as a portmanteau film with four stories set in the same house. The writer/directors – Sean Hogan, Paul Hyett, Tom Shankland and Paul Davis – will chronicle the haunted residence’s dark history from the 19th century to the present day.Conner Chapman, Ruth Bradley, Rosie Day, Sam Gittins, Scott Chambers and Belinda Stewart-Wilson make up the rest of the cast for the horror, which should be cranking its cameras later this year.Oram is also part of the cast for...

Ryan Bonder’s crime thriller stars Anthony Head and Belinda Stewart-Wilson.

Kemistry Films, in association with Amerique Film, have completed production on The Brother.

Ryan Bonder’s crime thriller centres on a young man’s attempt to make a clean break from his arms-dealing family ties.

The film stars Anthony Head, Belinda Stewart-Wilson, Noemi Merlant, Tygh Runyan and Jed Rees. Bonder and Ron McLeod co-produce, with Martin Paul-Hus executive producing.

To tie in with its release (set for spring 2014), Bonder, DoP Brian Johnson and composer Marc Bjorknas will create an art installation that will travel with the film, working within themes contained in the story.

Commenting on the installation, Bonder said that “the idea is to create a secondary viewing experience that echoes themes in the film but work on a much less narrative level.”

Top 10: Most Memorable MILFs
According to Urban Dictionary, a Milf (an acronym for Mother I’d Like To F*** you fill in the blank), is ‘Any woman in her early 30s to late 40s who is in danger of being attacked by horny teenage boys.’ MILFs have recently been idolised in films, most notably by American Pie in 1999, but the concept stretches further and wider in cinema history. These films have also encouraged ‘cougars’ around the world to be proud of their sex appeal, despite their age and parental status. In fact, according to a recent study by social networking site Badoo, Britain is a nation of cougars, with more than 50% of older women landing themselves with toy boys. We think that on-screen portrayals of MILFs might have something to do with that.

In honour of Universal Pictures’ The Change-Up, which features Leslie Mann as one such Milf, which is out on Blu-ray and DVD from 23rd January,...

'Inbetweeners' Belinda Stewart-Wilson: 'Fourth series is doubtful'
James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Simon Bird, and Joe Thomas in The Inbetweeners (2008)
The Inbetweeners star Belinda Stewart-Wilson has cast doubt upon a potential fourth series of the show. The actress - who plays the mother of lead character Will McKenzie (Simon Bird) - admitted that another full run of the E4 comedy is unlikely, but confirmed that she would return for any TV specials or a sequel to this summer's movie. "I'm sure I would do it - I've had such a great time working on this I wouldn't be able to resist," she told The Mirror. "But I very much doubt there will be another series. "Perhaps in the future a Christmas special, or some other one-offs might work, but because of where the story has taken the four guys I don't think it could sustain a series again." The 40-year-old added although she is grateful to have received her "big break" in The Inbetweeners, she fears (more)...

The Inbetweeners Movie Sets a New Record for a Comedy @ UK Box Office Taking £27m!
This is rather amazing and further cements my argument for why a sequel may be on the way as news breaks that The Inbetweeners Movie has become the biggest opening week box office earner for a comedy Ever in the UK taking (at present) £27,715,177!! This is an amazing number for a movie which according to various sources cost £3.5m to make. The numbers continue to rise for the movie which continues to break records all over the place. Just wait for the DVD to come out!

No doubt this figure will continue to rise as more and more people flock to the cinema to see Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas, Emily Head, Belinda Stewart-Wilson and Greg Davies all get up to some serious mischief! Massive congrats to everyone involved for making this such a success and above all, for making such a great movie! You can see our review here.

The Inbetweeners Movie Becomes Biggest UK Opening Comedy – Possible Sequel?
Following on from the previews figures that we saw last week, it’s no surprise that we’ve just heard that The Inbetweeners Movie (our review here) has raked in a massive £13.2m at the UK box office in the past 4 days breaking the previous record for a UK comedy which was previously held by Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason.

I’ve placed the official press release below for your viewing pleasure but with figures like this, does that mean that there could be room (or requirement?!) for a sequel to the extremely popular Channel 4 series movie? As an UK going audience, the answer would surely be yes!

During the Big Screen weekend last week, I attended The Inbetweeners panel which was attended by the writers of both the series and the movie, I asked that very question to the writers of The Inbetweeners, Iain Morris, Damon Beesley...

This seems likely to be the final outing for the Inbetweeners, with the cast considered too old for another series.

The Inbetweeners Movie is slated for an August 19th release.

The Inbetweeners Movie Starts Filming
The Inbetweeners movie officially starts its six weeks of filming this weekend, although some scenes were shot last year. The premise finds teenage friends Will (Simon Bird), Simon (Joe Thomas), Jay (James Buckley) and Neil (Blake Harrison) going on holiday to Malia without their parents, with predictably ribald and embarrassing results.

Series regulars Emily Head (Carly), Belinda Stewart-Wilson (Will’s Mum) and Greg Davies (Mr Gilbert) are all set to appear, joined by new characters played by Lydia Rose Bewley, Jessica Knappett, Laura Haddock and Tamla Kari. I’m guessing those newcomers will be playing various love interests for the sex-mad foursome.

The Inbetweeners movie (written by creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, directed by Ben Palmer) is set to open across the UK on 19 August.

What’s your gut feeling about this movie? Will it only appeal to fans of the TV show? Are there enough fans to make...

Shooting for The Inbetweeners Movie Starts This Weekend
Fans of the television show The Inbetweeners will be excited to learn that shooting for the feature length film will begin this weekend, 6 February.

Actors Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas remain in their roles for the big-screen project, which is filming across the UK and mainland Europe over the next 6 weeks.

Hopeless high school lads, Will, Jay, Neil and Simon will continue their cringe-worthy comedy, on holiday in Malia with no parents, no teachers, no money and little chance with the ladies.

Screenwriters, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris comment: "We hope the fans will appreciate the film which, we think, completes the story of Will, Simon, Neil and Jay.”

Producer Christopher Young adds: "I very much hope that the film will introduce The Inbetweeners to a whole new audience in the UK and around the world."

Directed by BAFTA nominated Ben Palmer, The Inbetweeners Movie unites the original cast,...

The Inbetweeners Movie Begins Shooting
James Buckley
The Inbetweeners really are making a movie. They really are. And it's actually shooting, right here, right now. Can you believe it? Can you though? Previous British TV comedies' jumps to the big screen have been patchy at best (Kevin And Perry Go Large, anyone?) but after winning bucket loads of awards (Two BAFTAs, Best Sitcom at the British Comedy Awards, a Rose d'Or) we've got faith in these potty-mouthed lads. But what will the movie actually consist of -- you know, bar Jay (James Buckley) coming up with increasingly extravagant lies, disgusting imagery, and new words for sex -- is limited to this:"It’s a lads' holiday to Malia – that’s all we’re allowed to say."That's right, this is going to be messy. Just to reassure you, regulars Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will of course return, as will Emily Head as Carli,...
