If the first “Walking Dead” spinoff following the finale of the flagship series, “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” seemed to mark the beginning of a new era for the franchise, the second certainly feels like a continuation — tonally, if not chronologically. “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” which premieres on AMC on Sept. 10, builds on the tentative good will established by “Dead City,” even arguably improving on some of its strengths.
“Daryl Dixon,” like “Dead City,” is a six-episode, largely self-contained story featuring a beloved core character transported to a brand-new setting. Where “Dead City” saw Maggie and Negan travel to New York City, this show sends the title character (played by Norman Reedus) across the Atlantic Ocean to post-zombie-apocalypse France.

John Leguizamo’s Latino crusade goes back decades. Over the past 30 years, his performances and outspoken off-screen presence have merged autobiography and activism, as he delivers assertive Latino personalities while advocating for more representation. From his acerbic and autobiographical one-man shows to dynamic screen roles such as “To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newman,” “Carlito’s Way,” and “Moulin Rouge!”, Leguizamo’s persona has essentially become a brand transferrable to any number of pop culture templates. In the last few years, he’s played the “Bruno” in “Encanto” earworm “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, an obnoxious celebrity in the horror-satire “The Menu,” and Gor Koresh on “The Mandalorian.”
Now Leguizamo has added another notch to his resume: TV host. With MSNBC’s “Leguizamo Does America,” the 62-year-old travels across the country visiting Latino communities in cities ranging from New York to San Francisco. Leguizamo’s template is equal parts Anthony Bourdain and Rick Steves,...

Emilio Estevez On Long Trip To Recapture ‘The Way’ Rights, Fathom Re-Release & Plans For Another One
Exclusive: After a two-year journey to gain back the rights to The Way, Emilio Estevez has arranged with Fathom Events to re-release the film nationwide on May 16 on about 800 screens or more. The effort has led to not only a chance to dust off a 12-year old film, but also to start progress on a sequel.
The film was scripted and directed by Estevez, partly inspired by the Jack Hitt book Off The Road: A Modern Day Walk Down the Pilgrim’s Route Into Spain. The film starred Estevez’s dad, Martin Sheen, and the director played the small role of a man who died while making the pilgrimage called El Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. This is where the Apostle James was buried. His dad takes over the effort, his son’s ashes in tow, and is about the people he meets along...

Can’t stop thinking about Elizabeth Holmes after watching HBO’s riveting documentary “The Inventor,” which exposed the Theranos scammer? Worry not, because come April, Hulu will be adding a slew of new titles to its slate, including “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine” from the same director, Alex Gibney, and it’s sure to contain more enthralling insight into the cutthroat world of Palo Alto’s tech world.
However, if you’re looking for something lighter to binge as you welcome spring this coming month, Hulu is sure to have something that fits the bill. By April 10, you’ll be able to follow the ladies of Scarlet Magazine in the Season 3 premiere of “The Bold Type” or dance along to the upbeat soundtrack of “Happy Feet,” which becomes available on April 1. Last week, Hulu posted the final entry in Up to Speed, its six-part travel series. Directed by Richard Linklater and starring Timothy “Speed” Levitch, the show is a mashup of travel, history, and meandering beatnik rants. As with much of Linklater’s output, I found it frustratingly flawed and yet deeply charming all the same.
America first encountered Levitch in The Cruise, a 1998 documentary about his life as a tour guide in Manhattan. (It was directed by Bennett Miller, the man behind Capote and Moneyball.) Levitch’s adenoidal voice, rubbery face, and astonishing facility with historical facts made him an unforgettable figure. It’s easy to see why Linklater would take a shine to him: The director keeps a stable of pet monologists.
Like philosophy professor Louis H. Mackey and filmmaker Caveh Zahidi—both of whom appeared, as did Levitch, in Linklater’s Waking Life—Levitch has an Olympic-level gift of gab.

The Cannes Film Festival is an extremely glamorous place to be. So glamorous that thieves and pickpockets abound, and some of the stories I've heard in the past few days -- first-hand from the victims themselves no less -- are enough to make this Cannes first-timer want to call up Amazon and express-order one of those hideous Rick Steves money belts that grannies wear on holiday.
