Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to Disney’s Enchanted, opens with a heavy dose of reality: A new baby, a distant teenager and a cramped apartment have left Giselle (Amy Adams) feeling disgruntled with her Happily Ever After. The New York City she came to love in the first film — where she pirouetted through Central Park and sang tunes with strangers — has lost its charm. The boredom of domesticity has settled in its place, and Giselle is itching for change.
When Giselle spots an advertisement for a home in Monroeville, a cartoonish suburban haven in upstate New York, she leaps at the chance to restore some of the magic to her life. Along with her new baby, her husband Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and a now teenage Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino), Giselle moves to the idyllic land of fixer-uppers, commuter trains and competitive PTA parents.

If you need any proof of the faulty decision-making exemplified by the Oscars, consider that they failed to give Amy Adams an Academy Award for her sterling work in the 2007 Disney fantasy "Enchanted." Adams' performance in "Enchanted," in which she delivered a true breakout-star turn as an animated princess brought into the real world who was forced to learn about how our world is a bit different than hers, is a genuine force of nature. Though Adams was not a true ingenue at that point, she revealed her immense depth in screwball comedy, romance, and drama in her role as Giselle of Andalasia. But as remarkable as the performance was, revisiting the role that made her an A-List star 15 years down the line is a true risk. Yet it's a delightful surprise that the Disney+ sequel, "Disenchanted," in spite of having a thudder of a title, is a moderately charming affair bolstered,...

“Enchanted” will always be known as the movie that introduced most of the world to Amy Adams, whisking her from the darling of indie films like “Drop Dead Gorgeous” and “Junebug” to one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors.
But a large part of the reason audiences fell in love with Amy Adams is because they fell under the spell of “Enchanted” as a whole. In director Kevin Lima and writer Bill Kelly’s 2007 film, Adams plays Giselle, a maiden of the mythical Andalasia who sings to forest critters and dreams of falling in love. She finds what she’s looking for in Prince Edward (James Marsden), but before they can go live happily ever after, his nefarious mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) sends her flying through a portal to New York City. There, Giselle crosses paths with cynical divorce lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Soon,...

It looks like Netflix is going to be the studio that finally brings us a remake of the classic 1950 Jimmy Stewart film Harvey.
Hollywood has been trying to get this film off the ground for years. At one point nine years ago, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks were supposed to develop it. But for one reason or another, it never happened.
Harvey tells the story of an amiable eccentric, Elwood P. Dowd, and his friendship with a six and a half foot tall invisible rabbit and how this affects every member of his family and his community. It’s such a fun concept and I really liked the original film. I guess it was only a matter of time before this movie got remade.

Exclusive: There have been many attempts in Hollywood to bring the classic Jimmy Stewart dramedy Harvey to the big screen, the latest being about nine years ago with Steven Spielberg (and Tom Hanks’ name being bandied about) under a Fox/DreamWorks machination. Now Netflix is readying to pull the 6 ft. rabbit out of its hat with writers J. David Stem and David N. Weiss who are set to adapt a remake of the 1950 film. Fábrica de Cine, which is in business with Netflix’s highly anticipated Martin Scorsese/Robert De Niro mob film The Irishman, is also on board to produce this one.
Harvey began as a play before becoming a beloved film about a man named Elwood P. Dowd who has a maybe-not-so-imaginary 6ft. tall rabbit friend named Harvey. The story has been brought to the small screen five times since its feature film debut some 69 years ago, but...

Amy Adams during an appearance today on The Talk gave a brief update on the status of Disenchanted, Disney’s long-in-the-works sequel to its Adams-starring 2007 hit about Giselle, the singing animated Disney princess who crosses over into the real world.
“I am absolutely up for that,” Adams said when asked by co-host Sara Gilbert about reprising her role in a sequel. “We’re working on it — so hopefully.”
There has been no recent movement on the project at Disney — the sequel is currently in development with Adam Shankman attached to direct. But Enchanted 2 was in the works as far back as 2014, when Anne Fletcher was aboard to helm a script written by J. David Stem and David N. Weiss from an earlier draft by Jessie Nelson. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are back as producers.

2007’s Enchanted was a critical and box-office hit, so it’s surprising that additional chapters in the fairy tale haven’t been churned out, especially since “happily ever after” isn’t a hard and fast rule anymore. And yet, nearly 10 years have passed since Amy Adams chirped her way into Patrick Dempsey’s and our hearts. A sequel was announced back in 2014, which was to be written by The Smurfs’ J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, though it’s languished in pre-production.
But now it looks like someone’s said the magic words to reinvigorate the project, as Empire Magazine reports that Rock Of Ages director Adam Shankman will helm the Enchanted follow-up. Shankman’s filmography includes 2007’s Hairspray, as well as such contemporary fairy tales as The Wedding Planner (there’s a coveted shoe involved in their meet-cute), Bringing Down The House (in which ...

A new report suggests that Disney Pictures is moving forward again on an "Enchanted" sequel and even has a new title for it - "Disenchanted".
Collider broke the news, saying that's the working title for the film which is now "in the process of punching up the script with the hopes that it will be in greenlight-ready shape very soon."
It has been eight years since the first film and the studio has been trying to get a follow-up going for a good portion of that period.
At last report J. David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Shrek 2," "The Smurfs") had signed on to write the screenplay and Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal") remains attached to direct. No word if Amy Adams, James Marsden or Susan Sarandon would return.

Paramount Pictures is moving forward with their plans for a third G.I. Joe movie, and they've hired Jonathan Lemkin to write the script. According to Variety, the story will focus on Dwayne Johnson's character, Roadblock, who was introduced in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Lemkin has previously worked on films such as Shooter with Mark Wahlberg, Devil's Advocate with Keanu Reeves, and Lethal Weapon 4. The studio is hoping to get the sequel into production in 2015 for a 2016 release. As big of a fan I am of the G.I. Joe franchise, the live-action movies that have been made sure have been a big letdown. This is one franchise I wouldn't mind seeing rebooted.
In other news, Disney has decided to dust off their plans for an Enchanted sequel and move it into development. The studio has hired J. David Stem and David N. Weiss to take on the duties of writing the screenplay.

Seven years after Amy Adams brought fairy tales into modern New York City, Enchanted is—finally!—continuing after ever, ever after, according to Deadline.
J. David Stem and David N. Weiss (Shrek 2, The Smurfs) will write a sequel to Enchanted, with Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, The Guilt Trip) set to direct the follow-up to Disney’s worldwide hit, according to Deadline’s report. There currently isn’t any word on whether any or all of the original stars—Amy Adams, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and Susan Sarandon, among others—will return, or what exactly the plot details will be.

It's been four years since we heard about Disney developing a sequel to their fairytale comedy Enchanted starring Oscar nominee Amy Adams. And it's been even longer since the 2007 film hit theaters, but that's not stopping Disney from keeping their hopes for Enchanted 2 high as Deadline reports a pair of writers have been hired to script the film. David N. Weiss & J. David Stem are set to script the film, and with films like Are We There Yet?, Daddy Day Camp and The Smurfs in their past, that doesn't inspire much confidence. But there's a glimmer of hope as the duo also scripted Shrek 2, which is a solid sequel. Read on! It's not clear who will all be returning from the first film, but one would hope that Amy Adams is a high priority, and there probably shouldn't be a sequel without her unless it focuses on another princess.

Way back in 2007, "Enchanted" filled our hearts with crazy love for Amy Adams and made some serious bank, so it's high time for Disney to try and make a sequel!
J. David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Daddy Day Camp," "Are We There Yet," "Shrek 2") will be writing the script, and Anne Fletcher ("The Guilt Trip," "27 Dresses," "Step Up") will direct. How could this go wrong?!
There's no word on whether or not Adams, who has wowed audiences with dramatic performances in "American Hustle," "Her," "The Master," among others, will reprise her role as Giselle, and, well, why would she? Her career is so crazy good that it would be silly to take a break from her dramatic work to sing for her supper in a sequel.
Meanwhile, her co-stars seem pretty busy too. Idina Menzel is busy still rocking Broadway and racking up awards, Susan Sarandon is holding it down in Hollywood,...

A pair of sequels have found new writers, the first of which is G.I. Joe 3, which will be written by Jonathan Lemkin (Shooter) with the expectation the film will center around Dwayne Johnson's Roadblock character. G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu is not expected to return as Paramount is planning a 2016 release. Then we come to Disney, who seems to have just remembered their now seven-year-old live-action/animated hybrid Enchanted was a hit and have brought in The Smurfs and Shrek 2 screenwriters, J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, to write Enchanted 2 with Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, The Guilt Trip) attached to direct. No word on which members of the original cast, which included Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden, will return. Variety / Deadline...

If you've been looking forward to sequels for G.I. Joe and Disney's Enchanted, then there's some good news coming your way. Progress on the sequels are moving forward as the studios have now hired writers for each project. Come inside for all the details and see who'll be penning the scripts!
I know, these properties have almost nothing in common, but considering they're both sequels, both of which just hired writers, I felt it better to lump them together into one article than a pair of smaller ones. So let's get to it.
First of all, Deadline dropped the news that many Disney fans are sure to be excited about, as one of their most underrated films (according to many) is finally getting a sequel. J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been hired to write the script for Enchanted 2 which is expected to bring back some of the...

It's been seven years since Disney released its "Enchanted" film, which stars Amy Adams and grossed $340 million on a budget of $85 million. Even though a sequel was rumored almost immediately, it's only now that the studio hired writers to write the screenplay. Those writers are J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, the duo behind "The Smurfs" and "Shrek 2." Kevin Lima is not returning to direct. He'll be replaced by Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, 27 Dresses). In the original film, a fairytale princess is sent to our world by an evil queen. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer. Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?...

It's been seven years since Disney wonderfully transplanted their classic animated tales to the realm of live-action with Enchanted, and while a sequel has been rumoured for a while now, it looks like we are finally getting some traction on the project with The Smurfs and Shrek 2 writers J. David Stem and David N. Weiss hired to pen the script. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, The Guilt Trip) is at the helm for the sequel, though there is no word on whether Amy Adams will return as the first live action Disney princess, or if any of the cast, including Patrick Dempsey, James Madsen, Timothy Spall, and Susan Sarandon, will be coming back. But, considering the reception she has gotten because of Frozen, I suspect Idina Menzel will see her small role elevated for the follow up. via Deadline...

Released back in 2007, director Kevin Lima's Disney-fairytale-come-to-life Enchanted was an absolutely massive smash hit. Made for $85 million, it dominated at the U.S. box office with an eventual total of $127 million, and its global gross after being released internationally was brought to a stellar $340 million. It was only a matter of time before Disney began working on a sequel, and while there was a false start back in 2010, this time looks like it could be the real deal. According to Deadline, Enchanted 2 is finally moving forward and has brought aboard two new writers to get it closer to the finish line. Sources have told the site that J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been tasked by Disney to craft a new story following up with the characters from the original. The two writers began their big screen careers writing the script for The Rugrats Movie back in...

"Shrek 2" and "The Smurfs" scribes J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been brought on to pen a sequel to Disney's 2007 musical fantasy tale "Enchanted". Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal," "The Guilt Trip") will helm this entry which had a previous draft written by Jessie Nelson.
Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Idina Menzel and Susan Sarandon starred in the first film about an animated Disney princess who crosses over into the real world. It went on to make $340 million at the worldwide box office.
In other sequel script news, Jonathan Lemkin ("Shooter," "Devil's Advocate") has been hired to pen the third "G.I. Joe" film for Paramount Pictures. The new installment is expected to revolve around Dwayne Johnson’s character Roadblock.
The film is aiming to get into production in the second quarter of 2015 ahead of a Summer 2016 release. Jon Chu was originally slated to return as director, that's no longer the case.

Exclusive: Seven years after Disney‘s live-action princess adventure Enchanted scored Golden Globe and Oscar noms and a $340M worldwide box office, the Mouse House is moving again on a sequel. It was in no way surprising, given the success of the first onscreen twirl for Amy Adams’ Disney-princess-meets-reality tale Enchanted, that the Mouse House would look to magic up a sequel. What’s slightly more shocking is how long it is taking the company to figure it out. The latest development? Writers J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been hired to take a crack. The pair, who worked on the likes of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Shrek 2, and, um, both Smurfs movies to date, are aboard to work out the next step in the story. Enchanted, as you’ll recall, found Adams’ Giselle as an animated princess exiled to our world by an evil sorceress played by Susan Sarandon. Landing in New York, she confronted the harsh reality of a land seemingly without true love or happy ever afters by singing a lot and generally trying to...

Los Angeles — Time flies when you're not wondering about the welfare of the Smurfs, those diminutive, animated blue-skinned forest-dwellers. Turns out they've been just fine since their 2011 big-screen outing, but there's trouble brewing in their new adventure-comedy that will require their curious blend of wide-eyed optimism and goofy enthusiasm to peacefully resolve.
A sequel largely unwarranted other than for box office and promotional purposes, the unimaginatively titled "The Smurfs 2" should have little trouble scaling stratospheric heights similar to its predecessor with undiscriminating young audiences and their chaperones, weary from near-unrelenting summertime caregiving.
The occasion of Smurfette's (Katy Perry) birthday presents the opportunity for her to recall her conflicted origins – rather than a "true-blue" Smurf, she was actually created by the hapless, wannabe evil sorcerer Gargamel (Hank Azaria), who now intends to kidnap her from her enchanted-forest home to obtain the formula for the magical Smurf essence that Papa Smurf...

This will be the second celebration of Global Smurfs Day in what is quickly becoming a tradition. Alright, now that all of that Man of Steel business is over with, we can get to the real news. That guilty pleasure news. Many of you will (secretly) be excited to hear that Britney Spears will release her new song “Ooh La La” with The Smurfs 2, according to Sony.
Britney Spears told Sony that she wanted to surprise her kids with a song in the film. Spears said:
I have always loved the Smurfs as a kid and now my boys are the biggest Smurfs fans Ever. I wanted to surprise them with a song in the movie. I know they’ll think it’s Smurftastic!
Smurfs 2 director Raja Gosnell, not one to be outwitted with Smurf word play, said:
I am very excited that Britney is joining our smurfy adventure. ‘Ooh La La’ is the perfect Smurf-party song, and the perfect button on the film for audiences around the world.

Poster for The Smurfs 2 Yes, as the poster says, they're busy filming, but it seems distribs are trying more and more these days to get the hype pumping earlier than ever for their big releases, as is evidence in the recent (and annoying) teasers for teasers coming via The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Surprisingly-enough, although the trailers seemed lackluster, the film wasn't half-shabby, and a sequel isn't too much of a bad thing, considering the abominations finding venues lately.
