Free Comic Book Day is upon us once again. What is Free Comic Book Day? Well it is all right there in the name. Every year, on the first Saturday of May, participating comic book stores give away selected comics to anyone that comes to their store. That’s right Free.
Comic books influence so much pop culture these days. Movies, TV, video games and more are looking for the next story to adapt or character to exploit. They make billions doing it. We enjoy consuming it. But the problem is, this doesn’t really help the men and women (mom & pop if you will) that run the local comic shop in your neighborhood. They struggle to get by. This is what makes Fcbd great, you get something for free and they get a chance to show you their wares. Maybe you will come back again. Everyone wins.
With that said,...

Comicsalliance.com are reporting that starting with a Free Comic Book Day (Fcbd) issue on May 4 2013, publisher Idw is reprinting a series of classic Judge Dredd stories in colour for the very first time.
Charlie Kirchoff, who also is the colourist of the current series, will give new life to the classic tales that will kick off with the issue’s “Judge Death”. This classic story by writer John Wagner and artist Brian Bolland, will feature a newly-coloured Bolland cover. 2000 Ad editor-in-chief Matt Smith issued the following statement about the reprints:

Like most classic movie fans, I have have viewed The African Queen countless times. However, I had never truly seen The African Queen until I attended a special digital screening of the restored version. Cinema Retro was among a select number of publications to be invited by Paramount for the unveiling of the restored version of director John Huston's classic adventure. The screening took place at Viacom headquarters in Times Square (Viacom is the parent company of Paramount). Following a reception attended by Ron Smith, the man who headed up the restoration process, we were escorted into the screening room where a new documentary was shown detailing the painstaking efforts to preserve the film. When the movie itself was shown in digital format, the result was literally breathtaking. The film looks better than Huston could have ever hoped for.

Incarcerated former Hot Boys rapper Turk is mourning the loss of his baby brother, who was reportedly gunned down early yesterday morning in New Orleans.
It's been reported Turk's young brother, Ronald Smith, was found lying dead on behind a daiquiri shop Manhattan Street in New Orleans around 3 a.m. with several gunshot wounds to his body. Apparently Jefferson Parish authorities have 19-year-old Travis Dennis — who has already admitted himself as the shooter — in custody.
Earlier today, Turk penned an an open letter to Ozone magazine asking for the hip-hop community's assistance funding burial costs for his brother Ronald. "I'm reaching out to all of you who have influence on the hip-hop community," he wrote. "My little brother and I were as close as brothers can be and it hurts me to lose him at such a young age, but as a man I must be strong.

Ok, so you know the hot mask this Halloween is Sarah Palin. What you don't know is, the Wasilla Wow is poised to make large money. Book offers for her view of what happened or didn't happen and how they blew it/ how they didn't blow it/ how she sees America/ Alaska/ McCain/ Barack/ baby Trig/ the price of jackets/ whatever. Agents are also poised to dangle $30,000 - give or take a few bucks - for a lecture. And said approximate fee is for "them." In other words, if she can't make it, they'll take the First Dude.

Former New York Times movie critic Elvis Mitchell better come up with a good explanation for what he was doing with $12,000 in cash in a cigar box - or he won't get the money back.
On Friday, the Us government filed an application to keep the cash that border guards found on Mitchell last April 27, when his taxi crossed into his hometown of Detroit as he returned from a documentary film festival in Toronto. "A search of Mitchell's belongings uncovered the box full of money along with [15] Cuban cigars," Canada's Windsor Star reports.
