There are few films that wouldn't be improved by being screened at the Royal Albert Hall backed by a live orchestra and chorus, but Breakfast at Tiffany's is one that seems made for such special treatment.
Based on Truman Capote's novella, Blake Edwards's 1961 movie is of course a funny, heartbreaking, gorgeous film. It's also one that sounds every bit as good as it looks. Henry Mancini's score won an Oscar, and though it apparently was never written down, it has been restored by Justin Freer.
At the Royal Albert Hall, the score is performed by the Philharmonia Film Orchestra accompanied by the Philharmonia Chorus, and is conducted by Freer.
Unlike last year's Gladiator screening, the film isn't subtitled. It's a more enjoyable experience because of that. With a less bombastic backing, the dialogue isn't drowned out by the orchestra, save for Holly Golightly's over-the-top apartment party. It's a price worth paying,...

Chicago – Audrey Hepburn and Dane Cook. You won’t find that kind of variety too many places outside of HollywoodChicago’s DVD & Blu-Ray Round-Up. From serial killers to musicals to a British import, this week’s round-up features an exciting variety of titles.
Some of these are agreed-upon classics, while at least one features arguably the most critically despised actor alive. And before you see a certain 3D horror movie this weekend, you should check out the available special edition.
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “Funny Face,” “Little Britain USA,” “My Best Friend’s Girl,” and “My Bloody Valentine”. Try and find a lineup that diverse anywhere other than the round-up.
(Check out the first edition of the round-up, the second edition, and a few Blu-Ray Round-Ups here and here.)
All of these titles were released on January 13th, 2009.

Breakfast At Tiffany's / Funny Face In the next couple days I will be doing one complete article for the first five releases from Paramount Home Entertainment for their Centennial Collection, which has certainly been pro Audrey Hepburn up to this point with four of the first five films released starring the '50s and '60s beauty (and boy was she beautiful). This week we have Breakfast at Tiffany's and Funny Face and I can only comment on Tiffany's as I have not seen Funny Face yet, but it is playing in the background as I type. Personally I am not much of a fan of Tiffany's even though it is considered to be such a classic. This isn't to say I dislike it as much as I just can't quite figure it out. Is it a comedy?...
