He was awarded the O.A.M. (Order of Australia Medal) in the 1996 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to the arts, entertainment industry and community.

In the 1980's, his company, Paul Sharratt Productions, produced the children's TV series You Asked For It (which became known as Boomerang towards the end of its run), on which a twelve-year-old Kim Watkins made her TV debut.
