Harry Potter fans got a big surprise this morning in London. Gathered at the King’s Cross railway station for the annual “Back to Hogwarts” day (spoiler: it’s when the witches and wizards in the Harry Potter stories head back to school), they were greeted by two of the film stars from the Fantastic Beasts series.
Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law of the upcoming adventure Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (the second film of an anticipated five in the series), joined the fun at the annual gathering, which celebrates the departure on an ancient stream train to Hogwarts via magical Platform 9 ¾.

To celebrate #BackToHogwarts Day tomorrow, J.K. Rowling is joined by the cast and crew of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald to reminisce over their favourite Hogwarts memories in this brand new featurette.
Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MacUsa (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.

When Jon Ronson was asked to work on a screenplay about a girl’s fight to rescue a fantastic beast, it was the start of a $60m adventure
My entry into screenwriting was not smooth. When I was 20, I wrote a film on spec and sent it to the BBC. They wrote back: “Usually, when we reject submissions, we like to offer some encouragement, but in your case we don’t see any point in you continuing.” I took it as encouragement anyway, thinking that only people who write terrible things are capable of writing great things. And so I persevered. After that, 25 years passed before one of my screenplays got filmed.
I once interviewed Rick Senat, a veteran at Warner Bros. “You need to understand,” he said, “that no film ever gets made.” Given this essential truth, I think it’s worth trying to make sense of how I...

"Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling is joining the real world with the upcoming BBC adaptation of her book "The Casual Vacancy." The cast has been revealed for the BBC One mini-series, which is being produced in association with HBO, and there's at least one "Harry Potter" vet involved. Michael Gambon -- who played Dumbledore in the "Potter" pictures -- leads a cast including Keeley Hawes ("Line Of Duty"), Rory Kinnear ("Penny Dreadful"), Monica Dolan ("Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa"), Julia McKenzie ("Notes On A Scandal"), and newcomer Abigail Lawrie. Based on Rowling's bestselling book, "Vacancy" takes place in the seemingly quite village of Pagford, England, where the death of Parish Councillor Barry Fairbrother sets off a chain of events exposing the town's dark underbelly. "Casual Vacancy" is being produced by Rowling and Neil Blair's production company Bronte Film and Television. Paul Trijbits ("Saving Mr. Banks") and Rick Senat will exec produce.

J.K. Rowling's magic is headed to TV. HBO and the BBC have teamed up to produce the "Harry Potter" author's first novel aimed at adults, "The Casual Vacancy," as a three-hour miniseries. Sarah Phelps, a veteran of the BBC who's written "EastEnders" and "Great Expectations," adapted the novel and Jonny Campbell ("In the Flesh") is attached to direct. Rowling will serve as executive producer along with Paul Trijbits ("Saving Mr. Banks"), Rick Senat, and her partner at Bronte Film and Television, Neil Blair. Ruth Kenley-Letts ("The Hour") will produce. Published by Little, Brown Book Group in 2012, "The Casual Vacancy" is a small town political drama set in a suburban town called Pagford. After the death of a parish councillor, an open seat on the council creates turmoil as citizens compete to fill the seat. The novel sets up battles between the rich and poor, old and young, and husbands and wives.

HBO has come on board as co-producer of BBC’s miniseries adaptation of novel The Casual Vacancy, from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. The three-hour mini, written by Sarah Phelps (EastEnders), produced by Ruth Kenley-Letts (The Hour) and to be directed by Jonny Campbell (In the Flesh), will begin production this summer in South West England. Published in 2012, Casual Vacancy centers on Pagford, a seemingly idyllic English village with a cobbled market square and ancient abbey. Behind the pretty façade, however, is a town at war: Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils. The three-part mini is produced by Bronte Film and Television, the independent production company run by Rowling and Neil Blair, who is executive producing with Paul Trijbits (Saving Mr. Banks) and Rick Senat.

Jane Eyre producer and Saving Mr. Banks executive producer Paul Trijbits has been brought on to exec produce The Casual Vacancy TV series that’s being mounted by The Blair Partnership and the BBC. Trijbits is the former managing director of London-based Ruby Film and Television. BBC One and BBC Drama said earlier this month that J.K. Rowling‘s first post-Harry Potter novel would be broken out into a series whose number and length of episodes will be determined once the creative adaptation process has formally begun. Trijbits will manage the production and appoint a writer. The story is set in a seemingly perfect English village whose pretty façade hides a town at war. Rowling will collaborate closely on the project which is expected to air in 2014. Neil Blair and Rick Senat of The Blair Partnership will be series executive producers.
