“It’s always fun as an actor coming out as an alter identity where you’re fully immersed in it,” says Corey Feldman, who was unmasked as Seal on “The Masked Singer” Thursday night. “You get to actually play into the character. The great banter that was improvised on the stage was all improvised. It’s not like you know what you’re gonna say or what they’re going to say. It keeps you on your fins. It was a lot of fun!” Watch his exclusive video interview with Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson above.
Feldman reveals the most difficult part of the process for him was watching the songs other people got to do. “Why didn’t I get to do ‘Billy Joel Night’?!” he exclaims. “I would have crushed ‘Billy Joel Night!’ If I could have done ‘The Stranger’ instead of ‘It’s Tricky” I think...

When interviewed by the Chicago Tribune in 1973, the critic and trailblazing French New Wave actor/filmmaker Francois Truffaut famously stated that he'd yet to see a truly "antiwar" movie, adding, "Every film about war ends up being pro-war." His argument, in essence, was that the very act of making war cinematic tends to infuse it with qualities that make it more entertaining and, as a result, less horrifying. In contrast to that, Truffaut's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" director Steven Spielberg -- then on the heels of helming his WWII drama "Saving Private Ryan" -- once told Newsweek that "every war movie, good or bad, is an antiwar movie." In his case, Spielberg reasoned that by portraying warfare as convincingly as plausible, it becomes impossible for a film to be pro-war since war is, itself, an inherently horrific thing.

Trevor Horn’s Echoes: Ancient & Modern finds the veteran musician and producer attempting to recontextualize some of the biggest pop hits of the past 40 years within the sounds of contemporary pop and electronic music. At best the results are bland, and at worst they exemplify Gen-x nostalgia at its most saccharine.
The album opens, rather unexpectedly, with a cover of Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank),” featuring a characteristically impassioned vocal performance by Tori Amos. The arrangement and production, however, are so sanitized, so slick and gussied up with melodramatic strings and synths, that the point of the song—its central irony and message about the dangers of generational alcoholism—is swallowed whole.
Horn imbues the album’s 11 songs with a grandiosity that quickly becomes flatulent, with big orchestral swells and heart-tugging keyboards. By the halfway point, the material all starts to blur together, as the majority of the songs...

Tori Amos and The Buggles’ Trevor Horn have teamed up for a cover of Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 single, “Swimming Pools (Drank),” reimagining it as a moody, modern piano ballad.
Amos and Horn’s take on the song arrives as the opening track on Horn’s new covers album, Echoes: Ancient & Modern. Built around a subdued piano and colored with silky strings, Amos’ multi-layered vocals lead the tune, placing Lamar’s lyricism in a new context. In the liner notes for the new album, Horn explained: “I thought of it as a kind of literate, modern American standard, a rap song open to reinterpretation. I wanted something distinctly 21st-century with original, eloquent lyrics, and my longtime engineer Tim Weidner suggested this.”
Continuing, Horn praised Amos’ creative contributions. “Tori Amos took the idea of adapting Kendrick Lamar’s psyched-up swagger in her stride and made it intensely cinematic,” he said. “I listened...

It cannot be overstated how huge Jim Carrey was in the 1990s. The rubber-limbed comedian had a massive box office draw, going from "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," to "The Mask," to "Dumb and Dumber." These films helped turn Carrey into a household name — and helped him land a role in a major blockbuster, "Batman Forever." Carrey, with his over-the-top personality, made for the perfect choice to play The Riddler, the puzzle-happy villain with a fondness for the color green.
"Batman Forever" was a kind of reset for the series. After the ultra-dark, ultra-kinky "Batman Returns," Warner Bros. wanted to go a different route with the Caped Crusader. Enter Joel Schumacher, who took over for director Tim Burton and ushered in a fun, neon-lit, cartoonish sequel that wasn't afraid to get silly. Carrey's Riddler is a scene-stealer, cavorting through the film like an imp and undergoing several wardrobe changes in true diva style.

Sad news hit this morning that Tony Bennett has died following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. The legendary crooner had one of the longest careers in the history of popular music. His debut LP, Because of You, landed in 1952, and he worked steadily in the studio and on the road until 2021.

Conversion Therapy Podcast ‘Dear Alana’ Leads Tenderfoot TV Slate Alongside Weekly Series & Spinoffs
Exclusive: Tenderfoot TV, the podcast company behind series such as To Live and Die in LA and Up and Vanished, is expanding its slate.
The company has unveiled a raft of new series, including Dear Alana, a dual-narrative series created by Simon Kent Fung about the life and tragic death of devout youth Alana Chen, whose aspiration to become a nun led her to conversion therapy, and a number of weekly series and spinoffs of existing shows.
Dear Alana is an eight-episode series that sees Kent Fung explore the psychological theories behind conversion therapy today, as he goes behind the scenes of an ascendant brand of American Catholicism sweeping college campuses now, and unearths the complicated boundary between earnest faith and spiritual manipulation, the promise of perfection and the price we pay to belong. It features Chen’s extensive journals, which reveal her hidden struggles with her sexuality and faith.

If there’s one thing Kelly Clarkson remembers about the very first season of “American Idol,” it’s how much some of her fellow contestants got beaten down by online backlash. According to the singer and talk show host, she watched several people “break their spirit” on the show.
During Thursday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the host welcomed fellow musical icon Seal, who made a point to praise her for having the “courage” to put herself on a stage to be judged not only by the actual judges, but the entire audience around the country.
But, for Clarkson, the experience was “a good boot camp.” What was harder was seeing other people struggle with nationwide input.

Eva Green won a $1 million judgment in a British court against the producers of the failed sci-fi project “A Patriot,” which she said was of such poor quality that it would have damaged her reputation – then posted a long statement saying the “widely misreported” case forced her to stand up to “a small group of men … who tried to use me as a scapegoat.”
The “Casino Royale” star sued White Lantern Films and Smc Speciality finance, fearing that the movie she’d signed on to do was devolving to the point that it would damage her career and reputation. No help: Green’s WhatsApp messages, revealed during the case, in which she called one of the executive producers, Jake Seal, a “devious sociopath,” “pure vomit” and “evil.”
Green has since called the revelation of these messages “humiliating” and blamed her “Frenchness” for her language. The producers had countersued, arguing that...

Eva Green has won her lawsuit over the failed movie “A Patriot.”
The case, which centered around Green’s $1 million fee for the film, was heard at London’s High Court earlier this year. In a statement, the actor hailed the judgment and said the experience had been “painful and damaging.”
Green had claimed that under her “pay or play” contract she was was still owed her fee, which was being held in escrow by her agent, even though the movie had fallen apart.
The production company White Lantern – together with film finance company Sherborne Media Finance, which took over White Lantern once the movie fell apart – disagreed. As well as defending the lawsuit, they counter-sued Green for “conspiracy, deceit and unlawful interference,” claiming she had deliberately sought to undermine the production and cause the film to collapse so she could buy out the script and make it herself.
