- Claudio Scimone was born on December 23, 1934 in Padua, Veneto, Italy. He is known for No Way Out (1973), Lorenzo's Oil (1992) and Invitation au voyage (1982). He died on September 6, 2018 in Padua, Veneto, Italy.
- He had an additional career as a respected musicologist, researching Italian music from the end of the Renaissance through Rossini. He prepared and edited the first modern editions of Tartini's overlooked violin concertos and sonatas, and prepared editions of many Vivaldi operas. His recording of the modern premiere of Vivaldi's Orlando furioso in 1977 starred Marilyn Horne and Victoria de Los Angeles. He prepared a critical edition of Rossini's Maometto II, and made first recordings or premiere modern performances of several Rossini operas.
- In 1959, he formed the chamber orchestra I Solisti Veneti in Padua. He led the orchestra on several world tours, appearing in 60 countries. Although the ensemble specializes in early music, he also commissioned works by contemporary composers.
- He was awarded the title of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
