American independent producer, a specialist in TV movies and miniseries. He was a Harvard honours graduate and pioneer in network sports broadcasting, as well as former Vice President of Programming for the ABC Television Network. Scherick started his own independent production company, Sports Programs Inc., in 1957, through which he went on to create "Wide World of Sports", appointing Roone Arledge as lead producer. His company merged with ABC Sports in 1961, and, in 1963, he became the network's chief programming executive.
