Every few months, someone seems to ask either the show’s creator Bryan Fuller or series star Mads Mikkelsen what’s going on with their hoped-for revival of Hannibal. Eight years have gone by since NBC cancelled the television series, which was inspired by characters in novels by Thomas Harris, after its third season, but Fuller, Mikkelsen, and fellow star Hugh Dancy have always let it be known that they’re hoping to reunite to make a fourth season at a new home. Eight months ago, Mikkelsen said, “It’s all about finding a home for it. Of course, we’re running out of time. We can’t wait twenty years, but in the next couple of years, if somebody finds a home, I think we’re all ready to take it up again.” Now, during an interview with Business Insider, Mikkelsen has given an update, saying there’s still...

Exclusive: The coming-of-age drama Remy & Arletta written by and starring Micaela Wittman (Shirley), which we were first to report on, has been acquired by indie distributor Synergetic for North America. Also starring relative newcomer Riley Quinn Scott (Apple’s Truth Be Told), the film will get a limited release in the U.S. starting October 13 before hitting VOD.
Watch the trailer above.
Based on Wittman’s same-name bestseller and the true story behind it, Remy & Arletta world premiered at Outfest last year. The film directed by Arthur De Larroche (American Bistro) follows Wittman’s Remy as she attempts to balance her relationship with her alcoholic mother (Amy Benedict) and her longtime best friend, Arletta (Scott). While Remy leans on her best friend as a coping mechanism, she learns that their co-dependent friendship is more than she realized.

Almost eight years have gone by since NBC cancelled the television series Hannibal, which was created by Bryan Fuller and inspired by characters in novels by Thomas Harris, after its third season. Ever since, Fuller and stars Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy have been joining fans in hoping that Hannibal will be able to continue on some other network or streaming service someday. Talking to Deadline while on the red carpet for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mikkelsen said there’s still a chance that a Hannibal revival will happen… but they’re running out of time.
Asked if there’s ever any chance he’d play Hannibal again, Mikkelsen told Deadline, “Always a chance. There’s always a chance. It’s all about finding a home for it. Of course, we’re running out of time. We can’t wait twenty years, but in the next couple of years,...

With the new Fast X trailer showcasing scenes starring Paul Walker and the 7th entry in the series having been finished after his untimely passing, fans are reminded of how some films needed to be finished even though the star passed on. While Furious 7 did so with taste and tact, some pushed the envelope maybe a bit too far. Here are some of the good ones, and some of the (very) bad ones.
Game of Death (1978)
Possibly the first title that comes to mind for film aficionados when the subject of films finished after their stars passed comes up is Robert Clouse’s Game of Death. Bruce Lee passed away on July 20th, 1973, and Game of Death was finished in 1978. That is quite the gap, and this may be explained by multiple reasons of course, including the fact that a decision needed to be taken on how to proceed...

Michael Rymer’s Queen of the Damned (2002) celebrates its 20th anniversary next week. The film is notable for the breakthrough performance of Aaliyah as the title character Queen Akasha. The rising singer tragically died at age 22 during post-production, with the movie offering only a glimpse of her greater talent. But 20 years on, the movie is most remembered as a famously flawed fright flick follow-up to one of the best vampire movies ever made–a rush job which doomed a promising franchise. It earned its cinematic notoriety because it ignored its natural and unnatural resources.
The late Anne Rice reinvented vampires for a new generation on the page with her extensive series of novels. The immortal bloodsuckers of her Vampire Chronicles book series were provocative, dangerous, and boundary-shattering from the moment Interview with the Vampire was first published in 1976. The film adaptation of the same story was essentially produced due to overwhelming public demand.

For Robert Rabiah, Queensland’s Mission Beach is more than just the location where he is filming fish-out-of-water drama Irreverent – it’s also where he began his career.
The actor’s first professional job was appearing alongside Craig McLachlan, Nadine Garner, and Antonio Sabato Jr. in George Miller’s action/adventure mini-series Tribe, which was also based in the coastal town.
Speaking to If, Rabiah said his role in the Matchbox Pictures/NBCUniversal International Studios’ series more than two decades later was a case of his journey coming full circle.
“To come back after all these years feels nostalgic and satisfying,” he said.
In Irreverent, Rabiah plays Farah, a menacing hitman sent by the Chicago Mob to settle the ledger with a criminal mediator (Colin Donnell) who has taken refuge in Far North Queensland and assumed the identity of a church reverend.

Queen of the Damned without Aaliyah?! Director Michael Rymer revealed in a recent interview with Vulture that Cher almost landed the lead role of Akasha, an African queen, in 2002's vampire horror film over Aaliyah. Rymer said he had "a number of meetings with actresses, including Cher," and found her to be "quite a viable Akasha," but he pushed for a different (and seemingly obvious) direction. "I just had a very strong belief that if we were going to do African queens, we had to have a person of color. I said that to the studio, and we made these long lists - Halle Berry, Regina King, an embarrassment of riches," he said.
After studio executives proposed Aaliyah for the movie, she went through a test with Rymer before he approved her for the coveted role. Rymer admitted he "put that poor girl through the wringer" and had her reciting...

Six-part anthology series Fires, about the experiences of everyday people at the frontline of the 2019-2020 bushfires, will premiere on Sunday, 26 September, 8.40pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
Filmed in Melbourne and regional Victoria earlier this year, the Tony Ayres Productions drama goes behind the images and the headlines to touch on the stories of people directly affected by the fires.
The series begins in Queensland in September 2019, at the start of the fire season, and continues as the fires make their deadly march south, burning out of control through Nsw and Victoria until February 2020. Each episode is set in a different location as the fires spread and build to a terrifying onslaught across the country through Christmas and New Year.
As the fires grow in intensity and ferocity and threaten different communities, new characters appear, whose stories reflect the breadth of experience during Australia’s black summer.

Antonio Sabato Jr and Robert Rabiah.
Antonio Sabato Jr. was one of the few American actors who supported Donald Trump in the 2016 election and soon found he was virtually blacklisted in Hollywood.
His agents and manager deserted him and work dried up so after a 30-year-career he decided to move to Florida and get a job in construction.
Now he plans a comeback, producing, co-writing, directing and starring in Trail Blazers, a Western about a band of brothers who were once outlaws and decide to turn their back on their old ways to fulfill their father’s dying wish.
Safe Harbour and Secret City star Robert Rabiah, who has been a mate of Sabato since they worked in Crawford Productions’ Queensland-shot series Tribe in 1999, will play Gabriel, his younger brother.
The brothers take refuge near a small town in Utah and quickly lock horns with the local Sheriff and his deputies.

George MacKay in ‘True History of the Kelly Gang.’
Justin Kurzel’s True History of the Kelly Gang will open in Australian cinemas on January 9, just 18 days before its Australia Day premiere on Stan.

Rena Owen.
When Rena Owen weighs up whether to accept roles, her main goal is to portray characters who are not the same as or similar to those she’s played before.
That maxim has served the Kiwi actress well in a screen career which spans 30 years since her debut in the Nz police series Shark in the Park.
Currently she is in Hobart playing yet another unique individual – Grace, who runs a community drop-in centre for wayward kids – in The Gloaming, an eight-part drama commissioned by Stan and Disney’s ABC Studios International.
Owen was in Vancouver getting ready to shoot the final episode of the second season of mermaid drama Siren, which screens on Disney’s young-adult Us cable network Freeform, when she was asked to audition for The Gloaming.
Her schedule was so hectic her initial response was that she had no time to do a self-test.

After canceling a swath of outré, female-centered shows to focus on high-budget fantasy epics, Amazon Prime has picked up…another outré, female-centered show. And they’re all the better for it! FremantleMedia’s “Picnic at Hanging Rock” miniseries, starring Natalie Dormer, is an awesomely eclectic adaptation of Joan Lindsay’s 1967 novel that sets itself apart from Peter Weir’s classic 1975 film. The series’ greatest strength is its unparalleled ability to sniff out subtext, as directors Larysa Kondracki, Amanda Brotchie, and Michael Rymer twist this low-budget epic into an eye-popping, surreal mystery with complex characters and consummate camp.

Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 13, “The Wrath of the Lamb”
Written by Bryan Fuller & Steve Lightfoot & Nick Antosca
Directed by Michael Rymer
Aired Saturdays at 10pm (Et) on NBC
With “The Wrath of the Lamb”, Hannibal wraps up its run, at least for now. While all involved have been qualifying the episode as merely the series finale on NBC, the show has yet to be picked up anywhere else and several key figures have moved on to new projects. Creator Bryan Fuller has mentioned the possibility of the team reuniting for a film at some point down the line, but for the foreseeable future, this is the series finale of Hannibal, and given its bloody, spectacular climax, that feels appropriate.
I have been an ardent fan of the series since it premiered, following it closely and reviewing it both here during this most recent season and via the in-depth Hannibal podcast I cohost with Sean Colletti,...

Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 11, “…And the Beast From the Sea”
Written by Steve Lightfoot and Bryan Fuller
Directed by Michael Rymer
Airs Saturdays at 10pm (Et) on NBC
One of the most exciting aspects of Hannibal is its willingness to vary significantly in structure and aesthetic when appropriate while always adhering to its unique, decidedly expressionist approach, giving writers and directors leeway to make their episodes visually and narratively distinct, while maintaining the show’s central, unifying core. Episodes this season have been sweepingly cinematic (“Antipasto”), atmospheric and psychological (“Secondo”), triumphantly cathartic (“Contorno”), and visceral and foreboding (“The Great Red Dragon”), while each remaining unquestionably Hannibal. After the lush and romantic “And the Woman Clothed in Sun”, this week’s entry slaps cold water on the audience’s face, replacing the tender, empathetic Dolarhyde of the tiger scene with a cold, remorseless predator. “…And the Beast From the Sea” is the...

Sam Worthington in Deadline Gallipoli.

Despite massive promotion and widespread critical acclaim, the premiere of Deadline Gallipoli didn.t draw a big audience on Foxtel but the figures for the full week will be a far more accurate measurement.

The producers of writer-director Seth Larney's science fiction project Subject 14 have set an ambitious goal for themselves, aiming to raise a hundred thousand Australian dollars in a crowd funding campaign to get the project off the ground. But given the quality of the material, an unusual transmedia approach and the presence of Battlestar Galactica producer Michael Rymer on the team - as is Oscar nominated director Luke Doolan, serving here as editor - I very much hope they make their goal. From a dystopian future, where the planet has been deforested and an oxygen crisis consumes the lives of many on earth, a young man is forced into a newly developed time machine, when a message is received from the future with his name in...

Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will Graham’s (Hugh Dancy) relationship features significant homoerotic subtext on NBC’s Hannibal. While some involved in the project shrug off the gay undertones, others acknowledge that something does seem to be going on between the two characters.
Is Hannibal Lecter Gay?
Actor Scott Thompson, who plays Jimmy Price on Hannibal, thinks it’s perfectly possibly that things could turn overtly sexual between Lecter and Graham. Putting himself in their shoes, Thompson, who is openly gay, can empathize with the idea of someone consenting to sex with a person not of their preferred gender.
“Most people just need a little nudge into [a] sexuality that’s not in their world. And I think everybody probably have someone that’s the wrong gender that they could have sex with,” Thompson told uInterview, explaining, “You know, if Michelle Rodriguez came at me with a strap on I might go,...

On NBC's cult drama Hannibal, the bond between title character Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) begins as nothing more than a meeting facilitated by agent Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne). Throughout the first season, we watch as Lecter begins to take a keen interest in Graham—going so far as to take a whiff of his aftershave. As the show progresses, so does Will's dependency, and Hannibal’s interest becomes increasingly intense.
It’s no wonder fans begin to speculate about the gay undertones of their relationship. At Comic-Con 2014, uInterview asked series regular Scott Thompson, creator Bryan Fuller, producer Michael Rymer (producer) and regular Caroline Dhavernan if they think Hannibal is, in fact, gay. While most of them suggested it is nothing more than a passionate “bromance,” Thompson offers a more expansive explanation. “Most people just need a little nudge into sexuality that’s not in their world,...

The penultimate episode in Hannibal season 2 sees Lecter mete out more punishments to the vile. Here's Paul's review...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
2.12 Tome-wan
Michael Rymer has become the go-to director for Hannibal, with Tome-wan serving as his seventh time at the helm - that's two more credits than the man who defined the look and feel of the show, David Slade (counting the upcoming finale). The last time Rymer's hand was this firmly on the tiller of a series was Battlestar Galactica, starting with the mini-series and then establishing the tone for everything to come with the brilliant opening episode 33.
The penultimate episode of this season has certain responsibilities and Rymer, with a script by Chris Brancato, Scott Nimerfro, and showrunner/mastermind Bryan Fuller, manages to do everything that is necessary to set up a season finale that promises to explosively establish a dramatic new starting point for the recently announced third season.
