After announcing their plans to merge the Paramount and Showtime streaming services earlier this year, Paramount Global has announced just when Paramount+ With Showtime will launch in the U.S.
The newly combined streaming service will launch in the U.S. on June 27th, but it will cost you a few extra dollars. Paramount+ used to cost you $9.99 per month, but Paramount+ With Showtime will see the price bump up to $11.99 per month. Paramount+ without Showtime will cost you $5.99 per month. The standalone Showtime streaming app will be shut down by the end of the year.
“This summer, Paramount+ will officially become the streaming home for Showtime, further advancing our lead in being the total household service,” said Tom Ryan, president and CEO of Paramount Streaming. “By integrating the Showtime premium and critically acclaimed portfolio with the service’s already broad and popular slate, all at a competitive price, we...

Paramount+ and Showtime are coming together precisely one quarter earlier than expected. Paramount+ with Showtime will launch on June 27, Paramount Global said on Monday. Previously, the timing for the combination and rebrand was end of September — or the end of Q3, not Q2.
How much is one quarter worth? Well, in the first quarter of 2023 alone, this merger of services cost Paramount Global nearly $1.7 billion. In other words, it could be quite meaningful.
The Showtime Ott (over-the-top) app will be shuttered by the end of the year, Paramount said this afternoon. The linear channel will wait for that timing to rebrand with the same — though more confusing for the format — name: Paramount+ with Showtime.
As previously reported, Paramount+ with Showtime will cost $11.99 per month, up $2 from the tier’s prior pricing. The Paramount+ “Essential” plan (without Showtime) will go up $1 per month from $4.99 to $5.99.

It’s the beginning of the end for Showtime as a standalone brand.
Paramount Global will launch the newly integrated Paramount+ With Showtime service in the U.S. on June 27, establishing it as the company’s top-tier streaming product without commercials. As previously announced, the Paramount+ With Showtime plan will cost $11.99 per month — up 17% from $9.99/month, but still less than the standard ad-free packages from rivals like Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max (nee HBO Max) and Netflix.
At the same time, the price of the Paramount+ Essential Plan (without Showtime) will increase from $4.99 to $5.99 per month.
By the end of the year, the company plans to sunset the Showtime app and rebrand the linear premium pay-tv channel to “deliver a distinguished premium service with hit originals across linear and streaming – the first to truly integrate streaming and linear content this way.”

The Paramount+ and Showtime bundle now has a launch date.
Paramount says that it will launch its new Paramount+ with Showtime service on June 27, bringing Showtime’s programming into the main Paramount+ experience. The new tier will become the cornerstone plan for Paramount+, and will cost $11.99 per month (up from $9.99 currently for the top tier of Paramount+, but on par with the price for the current Paramount+ with Showtime offering).
However, Paramount will also be raising the price for its “Essential” plan, which will not include Showtime content. That plan will cost $5.99 per month moving forward (it currently costs $4.99 per month). Paramount also offers Pluto TV, its free, ad-supported streaming service.
Despite the pricing changes, the company’s suite of streaming offerings remain competitive priced compared to others. Max, for example, which launches Tuesday, has an ad-supported tier that starts at $9.99, and an ad-free tier at $15.99. Netflix’s ad tier...

Paramount has finally set a date for launch of the Paramount+ with Showtime bundle. The combined app will launch in the U.S. on June 27 and will cost $11.99 a month. Showtime’s standalone app will shut down by the end of 2023.
The bundle is the latest expansion of Paramount+ and will be offered alongside the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential plan and the Fast service Pluto TV. Paramount+ with Showtime is exactly what it sounds like. The new offering will combine the libraries of both powerhouses in one easy-to-navigate place. Subscribers will be able to watch “Yellowjackets” right after “1923,” “Star Trek” after “Billions.”
The new app will be available for $11.99 a month, up from its previous cost of $9.99 a month. Paramount+ will still offer its Essential tier, which will exclude Showtime. This offering will be available for only $5.99 a month, which is a dollar more than it previously was. TheWrap has...

Paramount has confirmed the launch plans, including date, for the merged Paramount+ with Showtime service.
The company will launch the rebranded bundle on June 27.
It comes a few days after the date leaked via an email sent out to Showtime subscribers that paid for the service via Apple.
The move, which is currently only applicable in the U.S., comes after it emerged in January that Showtime will no longer be a standalone brand.
Paramount+ with Showtime will cost $11.99 a month, while Paramount+ without Showtime will cost $5.99. This is $2 more than the existing Paramount+ premium plan, that currently doesn’t have Showtime content, and $1 more than the “Essential” plan without Showtime.

Paramount Global will raise the monthly subscription price for its rebranded streaming service Paramount+ with Showtime in the third quarter of 2023, executives said on an earnings conference call on Thursday after reporting fourth-quarter results that saw Paramount+ post strong subscriber gains in the fourth quarter thanks to such hit content as Top Gun: Maverick.
“We all know streaming represents incredible value for consumers and the Paramount Plus offering is far from the industry price leader. We are on the value end of the pricing spectrum. And so in 2023, we will raise prices both for Paramount Plus Premium and Essential, both in the U.S., and select international markets,” CEO Bob Bakish said on the call.
The cost of the advertising-free premium streaming plan will rise from 9.99 per month for Paramount+ to 11.99 for Paramount+ with Showtime, while the essential plan with advertising will see a price hike from 4.99 a month to...

The shakeups at Showtime continue. Showtime’s staff is being merged into its sister brand MTV Entertainment Studios, leaving nearly 120 Showtime staffers laid off in the transition, an individual with knowledge told IndieWire. Further, a number of the premium cable network’s veteran execs are exiting their current roles.
It’s unclear what departments are being impacted as part of the cuts, but Variety, which first reported the news, notes the layoffs could impact roughly 25 percent of Showtime’s staff.
New Showtime boss Chris McCarthy first announced in a memo to staff Monday morning that co-president Gary Levine would transition to an advisor role at what is now “Paramount+ with Showtime,” while co-president Jana Winograde is exiting her role. And in a follow-up note that mapped out the new organizational structure at the merged Showtime and MTV, McCarthy announced that four other executives would be departing.

MTV Entertainment Studios and Showtime’s creative leadership teams are merging, with four more executives being laid off as the latter company’s upcoming consolidation with Paramount+ looms. Nina L. Diaz and Keith Cox will take on expanded roles as chief creative officer/president of content and president of scripted for Showtime/Mtves, respectively, reporting to Chris McCarthy.
News of the restructuring quickly follows McCarthy’s announcement earlier on Monday that Showtime co-presidents of entertainment Gary Levine and Jana Winograde’s roles would be eliminated; the former executive will take on a senior creative advisor role at the cable-streamer, while Winograde was let go as her position was consolidated. The shake-ups are a result of the larger ramifications of Showtime’s upcoming integration with Paramount+ later this year.

Chris McCarthy has outlined Showtime’s new executive leadership ahead of its formal integration with Paramount+.
After parting ways with co-president of entertainment Jana Winograde and shifting two-decade Showtime veteran Gary Levine to an advisory role, McCarthy has turned to his top lieutenants at MTV Studios, Nina L. Diaz and Keith Cox, to take on more prominent leadership roles at the premium cable network. The moves are part of a greater integration between McCarthy’s MTV Entertainment Studios with Showtime and come ahead of the cabler’s rebranding and consolidation with Paramount+.
As part of McCarthy’s new structure, outlined in detail via a memo to staff (read it below), COO and CFO Michael Crotty, exec vp nonfiction Vinnie Malhotra, exec vp and general counsel Rob Rosenberg, and vp and entertainment counsel Kent Sevener have joined Jana Winograde in leaving the network. On Jan. 30, Paramount Global became the latest Hollywood conglomerate to revamp its streaming setup and strategy, unveiling a sweeping combination of the Paramount+ streaming service and Showtime.
The move will also bring changes to programming — originals like Kidding, Super Pumped and American Rust, among others, were removed from the Showtime platform — and likely additional layoffs as Paramount CEO Bob Bakish acknowledged “uncertainty for the teams working on these brands and businesses.”
Wall Street analysts took stock of the plans, weighing in on Paramount’s streaming business in broader terms. Showtime will be integrated into Paramount+ later this year, as part of a rebrand that will take place across linear and streaming platforms in a major network shakeup that was long being speculated. The new title will be Paramount+ With Showtime, and will only involve the premium tier of Paramount+ and the Showtime linear network in the U.S.
Known as Paramount+ with Showtime, the goal is to make Paramount+ the definitive multiplatform brand in the streaming space. Per the network, the offering will allow a distinct and distinguished premium service with hit originals across linear and streaming. According to the company, it’s a natural next step in their integration strategy as one IP-driven, multiplatform, global content company.

Showtime is being integrated into Paramount+ across both linear and streaming platforms, resulting in a rebranding of the pay TV channel to “Paramount+ With Showtime.”

Paramount is making a major change to its linear and streaming businesses, merging Paramount+ and Showtime in both areas.
In connection with the changes, executives warned of likely layoffs and changes to programming to follow in the coming weeks.
Paramount CEO Bob Bakish announced the move in a memo to staff Monday afternoon, confirming rumors that have been brewing for some time.
For starters, both the Showtime linear pay-tv channel and the premium tier of Paramount+ will be rebranded as Paramount+ with Showtime, with Chris McCarthy to lead the Showtime studio and linear channel, and Tom Ryan overseeing the streaming business.
Bakish added that the changes will also “unlock operational efficiencies and financial benefits” for the company.
“While we are confident this is the right move for our company, our consumers, and our partners, we know this change brings uncertainty for the teams working on these brands and businesses,” Bakish wrote.

Paramount’s been an upstart in streaming, but its paid Paramount+ and free ad-supported service Pluto TV have seen outsized success against larger competitors. And one way it has been able to close the time gap have been its partnerships, which gets more eyes on its shows.
“We’re really ambitious and creative in our approach to partnerships, and ultimately we believe that partnerships can and should create new value for Paramount, for partners and ultimately for consumers,” Jeff Shultz, Paramount Streaming’s chief strategy officer and chief business development officer, as well as the former chief business officer for Pluto, told TheWrap.

Drew Barrymore is appearing in a new series of ads for Pluto TV, the streaming service owned by Paramount Global, which also distributes her daily talk show via CBS Media Ventures.
The tagline for the campaign, whose TV spots will launch in the U.S. and Canada tomorrow, is “Stream Now. Pay Never,” a reference to Pluto’s ad-supported business model.
Since January 2022, a channel dedicated to highlights from Barrymore’s show has been featured on Pluto, which has lately been leaning into its relationship with CBS on the free streaming front.
The Pluto plugs wink at various hallmarks of Barrymore’s acting career, referencing rom-com meet-cute situations, crime dramas and the skydiving scene from Charlie’s Angels. The three spots will be promoted across Paramount linear, streaming and digital outlets, including on prime...

Paramount Global CEO Bakish said Tuesday that while it “didn’t make sense to run Showtime as a 100 stand-alone organization,” he wanted “to make it clear that the [Showtime] brand still matters, and the slate is going to matter even more.”
The label will “lean into franchises,” he told the Ubs media conference. “We have not announced anything. But you will see that as we move into 2023.”
Bakish spoke broadly about moves within the company lately, which include layoffs and restructuring, to create a lower-cost, streamlined business. “It’s hard work. It’s transformational. It does affect people. But it unquestionably will produce superior financial results and strategic results,” he said.
“We are embarking on a set of initiatives that we were planning on anyway because they are strategic, but we are definitely accelerating and using the current market as a catalyst,” he said. High content costs, soft ad revenue and...

“They’re looking for cost savings.” That’s how one Paramount Global insider explained why CBS CEO George Cheeks would dismiss CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl and his top lieutenant, Thom Sherman, after the duo led the broadcast network for an impressive five-year run that featured hits including Ghosts and FBI.
Put another way, Cheeks is making his mark on the first-place network after previously reshaping CBS News and Stations a year after he joined the former ViacomCBS to replace Joe Ianniello. Insiders described the mood at CBS as “really sad” after Kahl, a 26-year network veteran who followed former CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves over from Warner Bros. CBS has a new entertainment president.
Former head of current Amy Reisenbach has been tapped to replace Kelly Kahl atop the broadcast network. As part of the changes at the broadcast network, senior vp programming Thom Sherman — who many expected to take over for Kahl and run CBS — is stepping down from his role and has signed a sizable producing deal with the network’s studio counterpart, CBS Studios.
The changes come as part of what CBS CEO George Cheeks described as part of a “restructuring and streamlining of leadership” at CBS Entertainment. The executive changes will go into effect in January, when Kahl’s 26-year CBS tenure concludes. Cheeks and Sherman both addressed the changes via internal memos to staff (read both, below). Another broadcast network president is out.
Kelly Kahl, who has been with CBS for nearly three decades, is stepping down from his role as entertainment president at the network. Kahl will exit at year’s end as part of what CBS CEO George Cheeks described as part of a “restructuring and streamlining of leadership” at CBS Entertainment. A replacement for Kahl has not yet been determined.
The news was announced Wednesday morning with both Kahl and Cheeks sending memos to staff. Read both below.
The news comes as a surprise given Kahl’s longtime history with CBS and after he was tapped to serve as entertainment president at the network following Glenn Geller in 2017. The longtime Les Moonves exec — he came with him to CBS after serving as a research exec at Warner Bros. TV — rose to the top after rising to run scheduling for the network.

Paramount Global is winnowing down its ad-sales staff after the unit was recently restructured by its new leader.
The job losses are said to number fewer than 100, according to a person familiar with the matter, and come after John Halley, named president of Paramount Global’s ad-sales efforts in September, realigned much of his staff to focus on direct relationships with major media-buying agencies.
Paramount Global declined to make executives available for comment. Executives who were recently elevated or given new senior roles in ad sales are expected to remain, this persons said. Deadline previously reported on the company’s job cuts.
The move comes at a time of upheaval not just for the company formerly known as ViacomCBS, but for the entire entertainment industry as it grapples with a downturn in advertising sales and a roiling stock market, as well as a continued migration of consumers to streaming video.

In September, Paramount’s Pluto TV became the first free, ad-supported platform to crack the Nielsen Gauge, the ratings provider’s monthly, all-platform snapshot of TV use. The platform reached 1 percent of all TV viewership in the U.S. for the month, coming in just below HBO Max and ranking among other paid streaming services. The milestone was a coup for Pluto TV but not entirely surprising, says Tom Ryan, head of streaming at Paramount, given the platform’s longevity and content offerings. “I do think that this is the beginning of Pluto being broken out as one of the top players in engagement for U.S. connected TV,” Ryan tells The Hollywood Reporter.

David Nevins’ surprise exit as the top executive at Showtime Networks after an impressive 12-year run signals a troubled path forward for the premium cable channel as a standalone brand in the streaming-first, consolidation-focused industry, insiders said.
Nevins, who was promoted only a year ago to chief content officer for all Showtime and Paramount+ scripted originals, last week announced his plans to depart a company that, according to one individual with knowledge of the corporate culture, has become overrun with “powerful bros” jockeying for position under CEO Bob Bakish. David Nevins will exit Showtime, the premium-cable channel he truly made premium, at the end of the year. He leaves Showtime in a better place than he found it.
A dozen years ago, Nevins took the Showtime reins when the channel was a dime-a-dozen subscription-cable network that aired movie reruns. (Those definitely did not cost a dime for a dozen — then or now.)
Nevins, a producer whose credits included “Friday Night Lights” and “Arrested Development,” immediately greenlit “Homeland” — one of the three biggest hits in Showtime’s history. “Dexter: New Blood,” was also his — as were fellow Showtime Top-10 series “Billions,” “Yellowjackets,” and “Your Honor.” Though Nevins did not order “Shameless,” he shepherded it to major success; under Nevins’ watch, Showtime was nominated for 244 Emmys and won 33.

The departure Thursday of David Nevins as Chairman and CEO, Paramount Premium Group and Chief Creative Officer, Paramount+ Scripted Series, as well as Paramount Global’s restructuring unveiled alongside it, created a lot anxiety within the operations impacted by Nevins’ exit.
Nevins’ responsibilities were divvied up, with Showtime Networks moving under Chris McCarthy, George Cheeks taking oversight of BET and Paramount TV Studios, and Showtime’s Ott shifting under Tom Ryan.
In his memo announcing the realignment, Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish noted that Paramount TV Studios “will continue to operate as a studio alongside CBS Studios,” which also is overseen by Cheeks, but many saw the two studios being put under the same umbrella as a step toward consolidation.

In a fickle TV business where the top network posts rank at the bottom for job security, we lost two of the longest-tenured executives in just a couple of days: the CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz, who stepped down Monday, and David Nevins, Chairman and CEO, Paramount Premium Group and Chief Creative Officer, Paramount+ Scripted Series, whose exit was announced Thursday. Both were around the 12-year mark in their jobs.
The circumstances were different, though ownership changes and the never-ending evolution of the TV business were involved in both cases.
In addition to his reign atop of Showtime for the past dozen years, Nevins stepped in as Chief Creative Officer at CBS for two years after the ouster of Les Moonves. Then he added a string of responsibilities following the 2019 Viacom-CBS merger, including oversight of BET, Paramount TV Studios and Paramount+’s scripted programming. David Nevins has stepped down as Chairman and CEO, Paramount Premium Group and Chief Creative Officer, Paramount+ Scripted Series. He just made the announcement internally in a memo, a copy of which was obtained by Deadline (read it below). He will be departing at the end of the year.
Nevins’ decision comes three years after the completion of the Viacom-CBS merger. The longtime Showtime Chairman and CEO had been rising in the ranks since then, adding oversight of BET, Paramount+’s scripted originals and Paramount Television. A respected veteran TV executive, he was part of the senior Paramount leadership under CEO Bob Bakish. With multiple executives having a say over Paramount+ and calls often being made by a committee, there has been some frustration over the decision-making process at the company. There also had been chatter about a move to consolidate some of the operations under Bakish.

Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish on Wednesday acknowledged high-level conversations with distributors about folding Showtime into Paramount+ in the U.S. He said the talks, which were reported September 13 by The Wall Street Journal, are a no-brainer.

Paramount+, the streaming service from Paramount Global, launches in Italy on Thursday with more than 8,000 hours of entertainment and a slate of local originals shining a spotlight on women’s voices and stories.
Among them are the previously unveiled original series Miss Fallaci, set to premiere in 2023, which will detail “the true story of one of the most controversial Italian and international journalism icons ever,” Oriana Fallaci, as well as the previously announced Corpo Libero, a teen drama-thriller series set in the world of gymnastics that is based on a novel by Ilaria Bernardini.
Meanwhile, the series Circeo recounts the events surrounding an infamous court case in 1975 that changed Italian society: two teenage girls were found in the trunk of a car in Rome, naked, wrapped in blankets and drenched in blood; one was dead, the other one alive.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Paramount Global is having “early” discussions about shutting down the standalone Showtime streaming service and merging its content with Paramount+.
It was just several weeks ago when Paramount announced that they would be bundling the Paramount+ and Showtime streaming services together for interested subscribers. “The Paramount+ with Showtime bundle offers consumers unprecedented value by providing one of the broadest content libraries in streaming at one of the lowest prices in the marketplace,” said Tom Ryan, president and chief executive officer of Paramount Global Streaming. “This singular user experience streamlines sign-up and enhances discovery, and this lower price will allow more households to enjoy this exceptional combined entertainment offering.” It now appears as though they’re considering fully uniting the two services under one roof.

Initial rates are set at just 7.99 a month for the new Paramount + Showtime app for the “Essential” plan (ie with ads). For those interested in an ad-free experience, the rate will be 12.99 a month. Two tastes that are sure to taste great together are about to be fed into the same swirl-making machine. What? We may have already lost this battle if you can’t handle me at my ice cream metaphors. Simply put, Paramount+ and Showtime will combine forces under one streaming app. The merge comes as part of an initiative to unify the billing cycles for both platforms. Both streaming apps will merge under one roof and be offered at a discount for eager subscribers.
Through the new setup, new subscribers can sign up for Paramount+ with Showtime for 7.99 a month for the standard, ad-supported package, while the ad-free version will be on offer for 12.99. Current subscribers can upgrade within the platform. After the initial discount period ends on October 2, the bundle will cost 11.99 with ads and 14.99 to go ad-free. Paramount+ and Showtime have combined into a single streaming app.
The full bundling follows an initial move last year to unify the billing of the two, with significant discounts, as Paramount Global was looking to give an extra boost to Paramount+. Formerly known as CBS All Access, the streaming service rebranded in 2021.
New subscribers will be able to sign up for Paramount+ With Showtime for 7.99 a month for the basic, ad-supported service and 12.99 for the ad-free version. Current subscribers can upgrade to the bundle within their app. After the introductory discount ends October 2, the bundle will cost 11.99 with ads or 14.99 without them. Subscribers interested in having only Showtime, without Paramount+, will still be able to get it for 10.99 a month as a stand-alone offering as well as through third-party distributors.
Before the bundle rollout, Paramount+ had been 4.99 a month with ads, or 9.99 without ads.
The Paramount combination comes as Warner Bros Discovery is working to bring together HBO Max and Discovery+ into a single app. Disney’s three-part bundle of Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu has been a major success since its 2020 introduction. For now, each service within it remains separate, though it is widely expected that Hulu will migrate to Disney+ once Disney gains full control of Hulu in 2024.
Paramount Global said Paramount+ added 4.9 million subscribers in the second quarter ending June 30, reaching 43.3 million overall, the bulk of the company’s total subscriber base of almost 64 million. The company plans to have Paramount+ in 60 global territories by the end of the year. Outside the U.S., some Showtime programming has already been streaming on Paramount+.
In announcing the full combo, Paramount Global said its aim was to make signing up and finding programming a smoother process.

Paramount is revamping its streaming bundle strategy in a major way, centering it around the flagship Paramount+ app.
Beginning today, programming from Showtime is coming to Paramount+, as part of a revamped bundle offering of the two content services. The bundle will see Showtime programming like Yellowjackets, Billions, and Dexter: New Blood available within the same app as Paramount+ programs like Star Trek: Discovery, Halo, and 1883.
It’s the first time that programming from both services will be available in one app. While Paramount launched a bundle of the two services last year, subscribers had to access the content through separate Showtime and Paramount+ apps. Bundle subscribers can now access all programming through the main Paramount+ app, and users of Paramount+ can upgrade to the bundle at any time for instant access to Showtime shows.
