Hey, "Blood & Treasure" fans. We hope you guys enjoyed tonight's episode 12. Now that it has officially come and gone, it's time to take a brief look at what the next, new episode 13 will feature for you guys. Unfortunately, episode 13 will indeed be the season 1 finale episode. So, it's going to be the last one we see for a while. CBS did deliver a very short teaser description for this last episode of season 1. So, that's what we'll be referencing for this spoiler session. As usual, we'll get things started with the title for this episode. It turns out the producers named it, "The Revenge Of Farouk." That's a very fitting title considering the contents of this episode. As most of you know, Farouk was killed off, but his master plan certainly was not. The season 1 finale episode 13 sounds like it will feature some very interesting, possible dramatic, adventured-filled, dangerous...

Despite the title, writer/director Denys Arcand’s film is actually a French Canadian satiric crime thriller/comedy about a delivery driver with a PhD in philosophy who finds himself in an ethical dilemma when a bag of stolen loot literally falls at his feet. But then again, maybe it is about the fall of the American empire, as income inequality and the fuzzy boundary between international high finance and high crimes are at the core of this social satire.
The title follows those of Arcand’s previous films, The Decline Of The American Empire and Barbarians At The Gate, but while those films focused on the same group of academics, this one starts anew with a new group of characters. At the center is...

Sony Pictures Classics is rolling out The Fall Of The American Empire, from French-Canadian filmmaker Denys Arcand and starring Alexandre Landry, in New York and Los Angeles, and after more than a decade of very limited screenings at a few film festivals, British filmmaker Gerald Fox’s doc Leaving Home, Coming Home: A Portrait of Robert Frank is finally getting a regular theatrical release. You could be forgiven for confusing the title of Canadian filmmaker Denys Arcand’s latest, the capitalist crime lark “The Fall of the American Empire,” with his 1986 battle-of-the-sexes talkathon, “The Decline of the American Empire.” Though they’re different stories, they’re cut from the same Arcand-ian cloth of sophisticated moral handwringing, with barbed lessons about society’s ills pouring from the mouths of cynical characters.
“Fall” has a broader entertainment canvas, however, with its commentary on avarice, inequality and charity sharing space with wry caper elements straight out of an Ealing Studios comedy. The mix is, for the most part, a welcome one, save one unappealing character, a retrograde love story, and an air that’s almost too blasé for its own good.
The set-up feels a little like something Woody Allen would have given his schlemiel persona in the early ’70s: Pierre-Paul (Alexandre Landry) is a mopey delivery service driver (with a Ph.

Shadowhunters took fans to hell and back (a few times) during Monday’s 2.5-hour series finale, which concluded with one last twist that was anything but mundane.
Before we get into the nitty gritty with co-showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer, here’s an extremely abbreviated recap of the night’s events: After defeating Lilith and rescuing Malec from Edom (which they destroyed in the process), the Shadowhunters returned to New York for the impromptu “Malec” wedding, where Clary was informed that she’d be stripped of her powers (and her memory) if she defied the will of the angels and created any more runes.

Charged with alternating currents of droll wit, sardonic cynicism, and socialist-tinged idealism, writer-director Denys Arcand’s “The Fall of the American Empire” is a richly amusing rumination on the excesses and amorality of capitalism that plays like an ingeniously contrived mashup of film noir melodrama and Ealing Studios comedy. Despite the title, the new film has nothing to do with “The Decline of the American Empire,” Arcand’s classic 1986 roundelay about the lusty lives and endless conversations of eight self-regarding French Canadian intellectuals. But it does share at least a few thematic threads with that movie’s Oscar-winning sequel, “The Barbarian Invasions” (2003), which suggested that, in times of crisis, even a die-hard socialist might appreciate the value of having a great deal of money at his disposal.

The Toronto Intl. Film Festival has added Denys Arcand’s crime thriller “The Fall of the American Empire” and 18 other Canadian films to its lineup.
Nine of the films are directed by women and 14 are world premieres.
“We’re especially proud to present such a diverse group of films,” said Steve Gravestock, senior programmer. “Ranging from science fiction to fantasy, myth to documentary, and romance to a dystopic vision of our neighbours to the south, this year’s Canadian films come from every region in the country, stretching from east to west and north to south.”
“The Fall of the American Empire” stars Alexandre Landry, Maxim Roy, Yan England, and Rémy Girard and centers Landry’s character discovering two bags of money and facing a moral dilemma. Arcand was inspired to make the film after learning about the 2010 murder of two people in a Montreal boutique.

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up U.S. rights to Oscar winner Denys Arcand’s upcoming The Fall of the American Empire. This is a follow-up of sorts to the Canadian helmer’s 1986 Oscar nominee The Decline Of The American Empire. Spc has also acquired all rights in Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.
The film explores the predominance of capitalism in a society where all other values seem to have crumbled. It centers on Pierre-Paul, a 36-year-old intellectual with a PhD in philosophy who is forced to work as a deliveryman to earn a decent living. One day, while delivering a parcel, he gets caught in a hold-up gone terribly wrong. With two dead and millions in money bags laying on the ground, Pierre-Paul is confronted with a dilemma: leave empty-handed, or take the money and run?

Sony Pictures Classics is in exclusive negotiations to buy “The Fall of the American Empire,” Variety has learned.
The Canadian crime thriller was written and directed by Denys Arcand and stars Alexandre Landry, Maxim Roy, Yan England and Rémy Girard. It centers on a man (Landry) who discovers two bags of money and is faced with a moral dilemma. Arcand was inspired to make the film after learning about the 2010 murder of two people in a Montreal boutique.
No deal for the film is in place, so a pact could fall through. However, it appears increasingly likely that the indie distributor will land distribution rights. The film is a thematic cousin to Arcand’s Oscar-nominated “The Decline of the American Empire” and the Oscar-winning “The Barbarian Invasions” (2003).
Sony has a strong track record with art house fare. The company scored a best picture Oscar nod last year for “Call Me by Your Name,...

Seville International will handle international sales on Denys Arcand’s (The Barbarian Invasions) upcoming comedy The Fall Of The American Empire, a follow of sorts to his 1986 Oscar-nominee The Decline Of The American Empire.

Capturing the complexity of abuse is tough to accomplish when mainstream audiences clamor for black and white delineations between predator and prey. Some go the horror route for metaphorical terror focusing on the pursuer while others go dramatic for the helplessness of a victim unable to break free. Writer/directors (and photographers) Carlos Sanchez and Jason Sanchez chose to throw out convention, using their feature debut as a vehicle to explain how easy boxes don’t exist for the devastation wrought by abusive relationships built on love. Way too often the abused becomes abuser, leading to a continuous chain of violence and psychological torment spanning generations. A Worthy Companion seeks to get to the heart of how these tortured souls must impossibly reconcile love, hate, jealousy, and rage at once.

Poor Simon!
Life's not easy for a baby vampire. You would think dying once would be hard enough, but it doesn't end for him. I would've thought capturing Camille would solve his problems.
On Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 5, Simon cracked under the pressure of loneliness and returned home to his family. The problem is, however, his vampire side. Mixing humans and a hungry vampire is not a good combination.
Simon is the quintessential underdog of Shadowhunters. He's lovable, he's geeky, and he continues to get picked on by stronger personalities. Everything bad that has happened to him is because of his "so-obvious-it-screams-in-my-face" love for Clary.
Did anyone else's heart melt when he asked Clary if she was sad when he died? I did, and I felt sad for him. He's so in love with her and she only loves him as a friend.
After four episodes of him being alone, it...

French-Canadian director Xavier Dolan’s film, It’s Only the End of the World (Juste la fin du monde) leads the nominations in the film categories, scoring nine nods including Best Motion Picture. Dolan’s film won the Grand Prix at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, and has been submitted as Canada’s entry for the 2017 Academy Awards. Dolan did an incredible job adapting Jean-Luc Lagarce’s play of the same name, which was beautifully brought to life by stars...

Shadowhunters‘ Simon Lewis has a brand new bag — of blood, that is.
Clary’s bespectacled bestie finally transitioned into a vampire on last night’s Shadowhunters, and while Simon might be repulsed by his new set of fangs, Alberto Rosende is thrilled that he finally gets to talk about it.
“It was really difficult to keep quiet for so long,” Rosende tells TVLine. “It’s such a big part of who he is for the entire saga, so I’m happy to talk about it incessantly for the next two months. It feels really good.”

Can Shadowhunters come back from its disappointing first episode? Here's our review of The Mortal Instruments TV opener...
This review contains spoilers.
1.1 The Mortal Cup
Lots of pilot episodes seem a bit clunky. They’ve got a fair amount of setting up to do, after all – the first episode of anything needs to introduce its audience to a setting, to characters, and, if the show’s got any kind of sci-fi or fantasy element, to the rules of its universe. So sometimes you get a bit more telling than showing, and some on-the-nose dialogue. That’s generally forgivable. But in the case of Shadowhunters, its first episode was so awkward it might be hard to come back from it.
To give it its due, it gets the first part out of the way quickly and fairly elegantly. The opening sequence establishes that this is a magical world...

Like a damnably tenacious demon climbing out of hell, Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments has risen from the ashes of a very bad big-screen take on Cassandra Clare’s Ya novels that bombed in theaters just three years ago, shapeshifting and shoehorning the same story of ridiculously attractive monster slayers in modern-day New York into a TV show format.
But disappointingly, though network Freeform (a newly rebranded ABC Family) is evidently hoping to attract more of an audience than the one drawn in by the film, this new series sticks almost exclusively to the same story beats – and almost perfectly mirrors its predecessor’s superficial and soulless flavor, albeit with much worse visual effects (and less subtlety, as indicated by the photo above).

19-2? Precinct 19, Car 2. It’s simple as that. A series title that upholds a long-standing tradition of cop shows throughout the years that use designators in their titles, from the likes of Car 54 Where Are You? to the more recent 10-8: Officers on Duty. 19-2 also continues the more modern tradition of the gritty cop drama, heavily influenced by the likes of cable TV dramas The Shield and The Wire – with the same hardened sensibilities, only this time with a Canadian twist…
Interestingly, 19-2 – as seen on this DVD – is not the original version of the show. This particular iteration of the cop drama is actually an Englich-language remake of the series, which was originally set in Montreal and filmed entirely in French.

Because Quebecker cinema pretends to be something that it isn't, no wonder we've got an action comedy this year. Whether you're looking for good action scenes or a good laugh, L'appât will dismay you, because it's closer to television than cinema.
In Montreal, a French mobster of Italian heritage died at a police precinct. Prudent Poirier (Guy A. Lepage), a very incompetent cop, was trying to save him. Because Poirier might help to crack the case, France's secret services sends Ventura (Rachid Badouri), an elite agent, in Montreal. However, Ventura will pose as a rookie trained by Poirier. However, Ventura ends up loathing Poirier and things get rather complicated for viewers' pleasure.
Moreover, L'appât is really unbearable to watch because its two leading actors, Guy A. Lepage and Rachid Badouri, who takes his role too seriously, overact too much. As Prudent Poirier, Lepage looks like a cop who came out of a sitcom.

ABC's new outer-space drama debuted on Sunday night. Will Defying Gravity be allowed to complete its mission or, like so many shows before it, be lost in space?
Defying Gravity follows the adventures of eight international astronauts as they fly a spaceship named Antares. On a top-secret mission, their lives are being recorded and telecast on Earth as part of a documentary. Despite the fact that the crewmembers wear libido-suppressing devices, there are plenty of romantic entanglements.
The show features the talents of Andrew Airlie, Christina Cox, Paula Garces, Laura Harris, Peter Howitt, Florentine Lahme, Karen LeBlanc, Ron Livingston, Ty Olsson, Zahf Paroo, Eyal Podell, Maxim Roy, Dylan Taylor, and Malik Yoba.
The sci-fi drama's storyline is strangely similar to the failed pilot for Virtuality that aired a month ago. Defying Gravity is a Canadian series that's co-produced by CTV, Omni Film Productions Limited, and Fox Television Studios. Filming has...
