Fun, fun, fun, fun, lookin' forward to the weekend? Well, it's Friday, and in honor of so-bad-it's-still-bad YouTube sensation Rebecca Black, listening to this girl say "way-ho," and Karen Rodriguez's exit from the show, we're putting together a list of ten songs (or types of songs) this season's contestants should never sing.
My personal theory is that Karen's song choices did her in. Is it her fault? The theme's fault? We may never know. Even more confusing still, Naima Adedapo has picked mostly awful songs to sing and is still in this. So, let's pick 10, shall we?...

The judges seemed to think it was a great week, but I disagree. Maybe it's just because I have higher expectations, or was really looking forward to hearing some great songs from the 80's and 90's and the songs they chose were mostly just okay. While a night this average overall could mean that anyone is going home, there were a few performances that even the judges agreed were not great.
I think Karen Rodriguez and Haley Reinhart are on the cusp, having been in the bottom three last week. Karen's performance this week was a little boring and didn't deliver anything new except better pitch, and Haley's performance was a bit divisive. I didn't mind Haley, despite an "interesting" song choice. I think Thia Megia could also be in trouble.

It's now down to the Top 12. Finalist Ashthon Jones was sent home, after making it to the bottom three with contestants Karen Rodriguez and Haley Reinhart.
On Wednesday night's show, Jones sang Diana Ross' "When You Tell Me That You Love Me." Watch the performance!
Although Jones made the top 13 when judges gave her one of their wild cards, this time they chose not to save her.
"Not this time baby, I'm sorry," Judge Jennifer Lopez said.

It's been an interesting week. The guys may have had the edge going into the "Wild Card" show, but Randy continues to insist that it's anyone's game. There were some performances from the Top 12 Girls that secured a few places in the Top 10, and a few that secured a ticket home. Let's examine.
Here are the girls I think are definitely moving on: Pia Toscano, Lauren Alaina, and Thia Megia. They had the advantage of having the final three spots, and their performances were stellar enough to cement them in the voters' brains. Lauren Turner is also a favorite, who I think viewers will want to see more of. I think the fifth spot will come down to Naima Adedapo and Karen Rodriguez.

After thousands of potential contestants, hundreds of Hollywood Week qualifiers and far too many tears to count, the 10th season of "American Idol" finally has its field of finalists. This year, 24 singers — 12 male, 12 female — will compete for the coveted top prize on the show (though if previous results are any indication, everybody will likely be gunning for second place). Though there was concern that the new lowered minimum age would turn the show into a knock-down, drag-out battle between over-managed teens, the final field is actually one of the more eclectic in recent memory. Though they'll be clawing at one another for the spotlight (and, most importantly, audience votes) over the next few weeks, right now they are one big happy "American Idol" family.
(Click here for photos of the entire field of 24 finalists from the 10th season of "American Idol"!)

Los Angeles — "American Idol" opened the door this season for 15-year-olds to audition but none made it into the semifinals at that tender age.
For round-faced charmer Jacee Badeaux, 15, of Lafayette, La., that means the music stopped Thursday, although he earned a comforting hug from judge Jennifer Lopez.
The 24 contestants who advanced in the singing contest did include two teenagers who were 15 when they auditioned but have since reached sweet 16. Along with a few 17-year-olds, it was mostly singers in their early 20s who got the nod from Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler.
California, New York, Tennessee and Louisiana are the states best represented among the two-dozen semifinalists, who are split evenly between males and females.
They won't have long to savor their achievement. Next week, only about half will make it to the finals after the men perform on Tuesday and the women on Wednesday. The results of...

"Will Jennifer find the strength to go on?" Ryan Seacrest asked at the start of Thursday's two-hour American Idol. Wednesday night, you'll recall, ended with a sobbing Jennifer Lopez listing to the side, like a leaking ship sinking into a sea of tears, giving bad news to Chris Medina. Within two minutes, Ryan answered as we expected he would: "Jennifer knows the show must go on." What Thursday night’s American Idol telecast lacked in suspense, it more than made up for in terms of surprise.
Ryan Seacrest pulled a Gwyneth Paltrow and went all Country Strong on us, but not before getting lifted like a set of Jersey Shore dumbbells by male and female contestants alike. Rachel Zevita opened up a commanding lead in the Season 10 Millinery Race. A pissed-off rocker chick took home the prize for Most Endearing Contestant (I kid you not!) by candidly flipping off the Idol cameras. And Sam Cooke’s classic civil-rights anthem “A Change Is Gonna Come” underwent radical...

Call off the search dogs. Lower our security threat level back down to chartreuse. Our long national nightmare of not knowing the full Top 24 on "American Idol X" finally ended Thursday night (February 24), as Seacrest & Co. spent 14 hours reading 19 names. (Apparently "Idol" was just getting us in the mood for Sunday night's Oscar telecast.)
When the dust finally settled and the also-rans were told to mind the gap as they boarded the "Idol" Obscurity Train (Erin Kelly, Tiwan Strong, Brittany Mazur and Jimmie Allen, meet your conductors Vanessa Wolfe, Erskine Walcott and Hadas), "Idol" fans were left with a promising batch of 24 hungry young singers. And in an "AI" first, all 24 semi-finalists were profiled over the course of the two "big reveal" episodes. (Although, how could they not be in three hours of televison?!)

I can’t remember a season of American Idol when I’ve been more pleased with the Top 24 contestants. Season 10 is going to go down in history as the best year yet!
After more than a month of auditions, the Top 24 contestants of American Idol season 10 were announced Feb. 24. (What a fitting date, right?) Outside of fan favorite Chris Medina, who was sadly cut the night before, there weren’t too many surprises with the big reveal — and honestly, I didn’t mind it one bit!
Thankfully, my three favorite youngsters — big voiced Lauren Alaina, country cutie Scotty McCreery and Charice-esque Thia Megia — all made the cut, so I was pleased as punch. Who else will be competing for our votes to make the Top 12? Here’s your official list:
Naima Adedapo, Haley Reinhart, Clint Jun Gamboa, Paul McDonald, Ashthon Jones, Karen Rodriguez, Robbie Rosen, Julie Zorrilla, Tim Halperin, Scotty McCreery,...

On Thursday night, "American Idol" revealed the remainder of the season 10 Top 24, a collection of singer/songwriters, balladeers, scatters, divas, perky teens and belters that will compete to become the heir to Lee DeWyze's throne (perhaps he's not the best example, but let's move on).
Unlike previous seasons, this year's crop of contenders is long on talent, short on sob stories — Chris Medina's exit made sure of that. And while it's probably too early to say this, we could be looking at the most-gifted field of singers in "Idol" history (or at least since the epochal third season). So it would probably benefit you to get to know the field before the cruel cut-downs begin.

On Wednesday night, February 23, "American Idol" unveiled the first five semifinalists for season 10's Top 24, and ended with Jennifer Lopez's break-down following the elimination of Chris Medina. Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have selected the remaining 19 contestants who proceed to the Top 24 round of "American Idol". As expected, top runner Casey Abrams, is admitted into the group along with other favorites such as Lauren Alaina, Rachel Zevita, James Durbin and Scotty McCreery.
Meanwhile, walking away from the chance to be an idol were Colton Dixon and 15-year old Jacee Badeaux whose spot was given to curly-haired Brett Loewenstern. John Wayne Schulz was pitted against fellow country boy, McCreery, and he lost. Others saying goodbye were Tiwan Strong, Eryn Kelly, Jackie Wilson and Jessica Cunningham.
As for the Top 24, they would have to prepare themselves to impress the audience at home with their pipes. Starting next week, "Idol" will go live three nights in a row and the audience voting begins. The guys will perform first on Tuesday, followed by the girls on Wednesday and the finalists announcement on Thursday.

Ever watch "American Idol" and think, "You know, I like watching amateurs perform, but I wish I could watch them sing four seconds of a Beatles song surrounded by oversized props on a hydraulic-enhanced stage"? Well, Wednesday night's (February 23) new Vegas round episode was just for you.
It was supposed to be a full two hours of people saying they've never heard of the Beatles, Steven Tyler waxing poetically about living in "Beatle Land" and awkward Seacrest interviews set in a makeshift Coca-Cola/Ford room that got integrated marketing execs horny. But then Jennifer Lopez had to go and have a meltdown when she told Chris Medina that he wasn't good enough to be on the show and producers said, "Eh, let's chop out that boring Vegas singing part. Who watches 'Idol' for the music anyway?"
Perhaps that's why the Vegas-set half of Wednesday's super-sized episode often felt...

It was a tale of two telecasts tonight on American Idol. Act One found the sanctity of marriage getting punched in the kidney by a pair of craven fameosexuals (even worse than it sounds), a grizzled clairvoyant predicting the untimely death of a pair of wide-eyed teenage contestants (much funnier/more inspirational than it sounds), and Randy Jackson offering perhaps the worst advice of his 10-season Idol tenure (no small accomplishment, that). Act Two (aka The Jennifer Lopez Empathy Hour) was most notable for revealing five of the 24 season 10 semifinalists, ousting a contestant whose backstory was far more impressive than his singing voice,...

In the penultimate "American Idol" audition round episode, the 60 or so finalists left are taken to Las Vegas and given 24 hours to learn a Beatles song, then are whittled down to the Top 24.
The kids struggle with the task, which is no wonder since they just finished the Hell that is Group Week and are once again being made to sing in groups, which is kinda stupid.
After a montage of a crazy vocal coach, we get a "we're young" montage since most of the kids are like, "Biebers? Beatles? Who are they?" Vocal mentor Jimmy Iovine plus a team of music producers are there to intimidate help.
Group 1 is Stefano Langone and James Durbin with "Get Back" and it's good. Durbin is stronger than Langone, but Langone does alright. It really depends on how the other boys do whether Langone makes it through, but I think we all know Durbin's in.

Fox The contestants perform Beatles songs.
Hollywood Week went to Vegas, but some folks were leaving Las Vegas on a sour note on tonight’s American Idol. It was a two-part show – a few were sent packing in the first hour, some were guaranteed a slot in the final 24 in the second hour. The rest – we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to hear all of the names of the final group.
And you won’t believe who cried on this emotional night.

After eliminating roughly half of the 327 contestants the first two days of Hollywood Week, "American Idol" is back with the dreaded Group Day, which is one of our favorite parts of the entire show. There are always so many tears and meltdowns, but there are also some amazing performances that come out of it -- remember Danny Gokey and Jamar Rogers group from two years ago? I still remember how good they were.
Also - I realize how stupid it is to make solo artists perform in groups, but I don't care. Group Day is awesome.
Since there were two days of first-round eliminations, a bunch of day one kids had already formed groups and were thinking they were ahead of the game. But then producer Ken Warwick drops the bomb that the groups have to include a mixture of both days' contestants, because that's only fair for the day two kids.

Will Chris Medina, Lauren Alaina and others make it past the grueling round starting Thursday night?

It always feels like the "American Idol" audition rounds go on forever. But, miraculously, they're already over, and Thursday night's (February 10) show will give us our first glimpse of the dreaded Hollywood Week.
We've already had some serious ups and downs so far this season, with the joy of new judge Steven Tyler's unpredictable, wacky personality and winning charm, the seeming bumper crop of stellar talent in Austin and New Jersey, the washout in Los Angeles and a few 15-year-olds who seemed to suggest the lowering of the age limit was a good idea after all.
We won't know until Thursday night which singers were able to keep it together in Los Angeles, but there are a number of promising candidates who seem...

Call us a tough crowd but myself and veteran 'Idol' commentator Rickey Yaneza found last night's Los Angeles auditions close to unwatchable.
Aside from a few promising candidates, namely Tim Halperin and Karen Rodriguez, the hour veered more towards the mentally disturbed than the musically gifted.
Check out what we have to say about the unstoppable Tynisha Roches' "in your face" approach to auditioning and Arkansas' Cooper Robinson's relentless assault on our eardrums -- and sanity.
We also weigh in on the MySpace factor and look ahead to San Francisco and, finally, Hollywood next week!

There must be something in the water in L.A. -- because only five golden tickets were handed out in last night's bizarre Los Angeles audition episode of " American Idol ." With wacko after wacko lining up to sing in front of Randy Jackson , Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler , only a few really stood out for being good rather than crazy. One of the night's best performers came from a MySpace online contest -- with Karen Rodriguez impressing the judges with Whitney Houston 's " You Give Good Love " (See the audition above!). Another standout was the brother pairing of Marc and Aaron Gutierez -- whose performance of " Lean On Me " we posted yesterday . The rest of the episode was a freakshow -- with a delusional record producer, a crazy lady chasing Randy through the audition room and a guy who called himself "Human Tornado." Check out the pics of last night's craziest moments!

"Our Los Angeles auditions have been far from successful."
Hey, at least Ryan Seacrest was honest during last night's edition of American Idol, as few contestants shined in The City of Angels.
But we met one hopeful who's a rumored member of the top 40: a 21-year old from New York, Karen Rodriguez actually sung to Jennifer Lopez a few years ago on MTV. She remains enamored by J. Lo to this day, which is exactly how the judges felt about Karen's rendition of Whitney Houston's "You Give Good Love."
Watch her in action now and decide: does Rodriguez has a chance this season?

Was Thursday night's (February 3) episode of "American Idol" the worst ever?!
That was the collective kvetch on the Internet after season 10's Los Angeles auditions aired. Could that bold declaration actually be true? Let's break down the hour and take a closer look.
Here's everything that was awesome on Thursday night's episode: Randy Jackson's gold shoes.
Here's everything that made me want to personally recreate Butthole Surfers' Electriclarryland album cover: Everything else.
Granted, six hours into the season, we're all suffering from Audition Episode Fatigue Syndrome (or Aefs). (Symptoms include daydreaming about Paris Bennett, engaging in a Twitter party with an "Idol" winner's dog, dizziness, nausea and having the sudden urge to explore the 600 section of your cable package.) But good TV trumps being burned out. Case in point: The "Real Housewives" series. I feel like I've been watching this franchise continuously for three years now, but as...

I figured we were at least a few years away from the day that Fox would randomly bump American Idol from its regularly scheduled time slot, but tonight, the unthinkable happened. I flipped on my TV at 7:59 p.m., and the following programming information popped up on my screen:
Real Famewhores of Los Angeles
Thurs 02/03 at 8p, 60 min
New, HD, “Episode 1,” (2011), The desperate, the deluded, the depressing, and the deranged attempt to validate their existences by stepping in front of a TV camera. A teenager blithely throws away his chance at a college education, a young woman invokes the wrath of God,...

"American Idol" takes on the crazy town of Los Angeles, CA Thursday night (Feb. 3), plus the MySpace auditions are in the house. So in "Idol" land it's still 2004? Got it.
That makes sense, since this episode is almost wall-to-wall bad/crazy auditions and that schtick hasn't been funny since then.
Victoria Garrett is the first audition of the night and you can just tell by her crazy outfit from 1984, her God talk and her starry-eyed attitude that she is going to suck. And she does. Why do we have to watch those? Hilariously, afterwards she says, "I let my nerves get the best of me."
This episode's resident J.Lo-lover is Tim Halperin with "She Will Be Loved." The lower stuff is nice, but he doesn't quite have the chops to do the high stuff on the chorus. But the whole narrative of this guy's audition is his love for Jennifer Lopez,...

According to a new report, two hopefuls from last night's Austin auditions: Casey Abrams and John Wayne Schulz. We've posted the former's cover of a Ray Charles classic below, followed by the alleged list of semifinalists...
