We all need heroes to look up to. Here’s why you could do a lot worse than choosing Neighbours’ Harold Wayne Bishop…
A teetotal vegetarian in huge-framed glasses who ran his own coffee shop and played the tuba, Neighbours’ Harold Bishop was the Og hipster. Being decades ahead of the curve though, is the least of this man’s myriad accomplishments.

In these troubled times, we all need heroes. Dependable pillars to whom we can look for guidance as we wend our way along life’s bumpy road. Harold Bishop is one such man. Thirty years after the brilliant Ian Smith first raised an admonishing finger, waggled his jowls and made the sound of an otter hesitating mid-climax, we present the many and varied reasons his character is an inspiration.

The father of one of the two Florida boys missing at sea since a July 24 fishing excursion holds his final communication with his son close. The family of Perry Cohen, one of two Florida teens - both 14 - that have been missing at sea since July, dispute allegations that they withheld information collected in a private search and rescue effort conducted in the days after the boys disappeared. At issue is an investigation commissioned by Nicholas Korniloff, Perry Cohen's stepfather, and conducted by Six Maritime, a Gainesville-based firm that offers a range of maritime services including search and rescue, security and tactical training. The firm's effort focused in part on the discovery of two life jackets and a floatation device on the Georgia shore shortly after the boys' disappearance.

Fringe, Supernatural, Bob's Burgers... zombies pop up in all kinds of surprising places. Remember that time Ramsay Street was invaded?
Back in the 80s and 90s, the only groups regularly enjoying zombie movies were habitually stoned students, young lads looking to prove their mettle by lobbing VHS grenades of gore at each other's minds, and great sweating giants with mutton-chops corseted into two-sizes-too-small Iron Maiden T-shirts. Very few couples partook of the genre; liver-ripping and eye-gouging was rarely seen as the essential romantic complement to an evening entwined on the couch.
Aside from George A Romero’s satirical side-swipes at society, the majority of zombie movies were gloriously nasty, schlocky yuck-fests, with names like ‘Return Of The Great Zombie Intenstine Carnival III’, 'Zombies! Zombies, Oh, Christ Zombies, They're Eating My Eyes!' and ‘I Claw-hammered My Zombie Grandma’S Head Off’. Anyone with access to a video camera,...

Death! Destruction! Whodunits with cliffhanger endings! From Lucy Beale to Tina McIntyre to (almost) Ross Barton, there's been a lot of murders in soapland lately.
We've taken the big five soaps and crunched the numbers to discover the deadliest (and safest) places to live. How? By dividing the total murders by the show's number of years on air. We've been strict with the rules, so accidental killings don't count unless there was malicious intent. We also don't allow murders that occur miles away from the main location (unless it was somehow started there, like the Neighbours plane bomb).
Yep, we know it's morbid, but it's grimly fascinating. So here are the soaps ranked by their murder rates:
5. Neighbours
Murders: 10 in 30 years (Click here for the full list)
Average murders per year: 0.33
Even sunny Erinsborough can have the odd murder here and there, but not that many in comparison to other soap towns.

Men Behaving Badly made a brief return in the form of a one-off sketch last night (October 13) as part of the Stand Up To Cancer telethon on Channel 4.
One of the highlights of the original series was Gary (Martin Clunes) and Tony's (Neil Morrissey) quest to find a new pub after The Crown gets a revamp. Gary's system of ranking their locals with different categories is a great tool for real-life pub crawls after moving somewhere new. Try it!
With this in mind, we pondered which pubs from TV history would rank well using a system similar to Gary's? We've chosen just a handful of famous watering holes in order to find the best one. The only rule is that they need to serve alcoholic drinks, so Central Perk doesn't count.
Moe's Tavern (The Simpsons) - 18/50
Clientele: 6
Booze and Snacks: 4
Cleanliness: 1
Atmosphere: 4

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are a very high-profile team who have boasted many great players over the years – not least in the Premier League era from 1992 onwards.
As a result of the club’s high-profile and the fact that they play in the biggest and best league in world club football, their players often get recognised by their country’s national teams.
Spurs have had international players from loads of countries in the last 22 years – Erik Thorstvedt of Norway, Gheorghe Popescu of Romania, Jurgen Klinsmann of Germany, Hugo Lloris of France, Sandro of Brazil, Roberto Soldado of Spain, Gareth Bale of Wales, Alan Hutton of Scotland, Steven Pienaar of South Africa, Stephen Carr of the Republic of Ireland, Jan Vertonghen of Belgium, Luka Modric of Croatia, Rafael van der Vaart of the Netherlands and too many Englishmen to name, for example – and the vast majority of them earn caps at international level.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are a club who are known for their attacking prowess and for scoring goals (they certainly aren’t known for being a tight-knit defensive unit).
Over the years, they club have had some wonderful attacking players – Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Smith, Martin Shivers, Gary Lineker, Teddy Sheringham, David Ginola and Gareth Bale to name but a few – and the Premier League years have been no different in that regard.
As a result, there have been some very memorable goals scored in that time – though not all of them have come from the attacking players who you’d necessarily expect them to come from.
Although many of Spurs’ most memorable goals in recent years are memorable specifically because of how good they were, several are memorable simply because of the circumstances in which they were scored; late equalisers, last minute winners,...

In early 2015, Neighbours will celebrate its 30th anniversary. The Aussie soap has provided us with nearly 7,000 episodes of drama, laughs and Harold Bishop falling off a clifftop and returning five years later as a bloke called Ted.
With preparations already underway for the 30th celebrations and the possible return of Kylie Minogue - the show's most famous breakout star - being teased, we want to find out who else you would like to see back in Ramsay Street to celebrate the show's birthday.
Here are our suggestions on who they could bring back:
Annalise Hartman (Kimberley Davies) - Alex Fletcher, Deputy Editor
Pretty much every teenage boy in the '90s had a major crush on Ramsay Street's Annalise Hartman. Played by Kimberley Davies, she was a man magnet in Erinsborough, working her way through relationships with Lou(!), Sam Kratz, Mark Gottlieb and Stonefish. She...

Leicester face another Midland rival on Tuesday night as Nigel Pearson takes his table topping side to St Andrews to face Lee Clark’s Birmingham City.
The Foxes sit eight points clear at the top of the Championship, although Queens Park Rangers and Burnley do have a game in hand.
The Blues will be looking to steer away from the dreaded relegation zone with a win. However, a combination of failure to pick up three points and other results going against them could see them sit just one point above the drop zone.
Team News
Birmingham will be without Paul Robinson, who is suspended due to picking up ten yellow cards this season. Loanee Kyle Bartley is expected to take his place.
Midfielder Tom Adeyemi could start after missing the last month with a back injury.

Championship team Blackburn Rovers caused the first shock of Fa Cup third round weekend when they held 2011 winners Manchester City at Ewood Park. Skipper Scott Dann earned a replay for Gary Bowyer’s side by cancelling out an Alvaro Negeredo goal.
Both strikes came from corners and now Manuel Pellegrini has yet another midweek game to plan for in January on top of two Capital One Cup semi-final legs with West Ham. City had Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata sent off at Blackburn for two bookings.
Rovers boss Bowyer handed ex-England goalie Paul Robinson his first start since December 2012 after a troublesome back problem and career-threatening blood clot on his lung. Top scorer Jordan Rhodes dropped to the bench prompting fears from home fans he would be sold.
D. J. Campbell also made way as Blackburn made three changes from their away win over Leeds.

Scott Dann cancelled out Alvaro Negredo’s 15th goal of the season as Blackburn Rovers battled back and held 2011 winners Manchester City in the first Fa Cup third round tie.
Championship club Blackburn will have to meet their Northwest rivals again at the Etihad in ten days’ time thanks to a goal from their captain. Dedryck Boyata saw red for City late on.
This was something of a slow burner, but Gary Bowyer’s Rovers contained the illustrious City names by flooding midfield. A couple of Dann headers from set pieces that went straight at Costel Pantilimon were all the hosts could muster in the opening half hour.

Birmingham City hosted Hull City, with the Championship side taking the victory in a promising performance by Lee Clark’s men in the home side’s final pre-season game before their league campaign kicks off.
Goals from Matt Green, from a corner taken by new boy Shane Ferguson – freshly available after a loan move from Newcastle United – and Andrew Shinnie ensured victory, before Sone Aluko scored a penalty consolation for the visitors.
After gaining automatic promotion from the Championship, Steve Bruce would have been hoping to prove they could compete as a Premier League side, while Birmingham, having finished mid-table last season would have been hoping for a confident display to take into Saturday’s opener against Watford. It was the Championship club who came through a scrappy affair between the two clubs, with Hull disappointing, especially so close to the start of the new season.

Rejoice, the saga is finally over. Andy Carroll has sealed his move to West Ham for a fee of around £15m, with add-ons depending on which source you’re paying attention to. When all is said and done my head knows that this is a deal in the very best interests of all involved but, still, my heart feels a slither of sadness for the striker’s departure.
When Andy Carroll turned up on January 31st 2011, like many fans, I immediately felt that the fantastically large fee would serve to bite us on the backside. I remember seeing the headlines, and praying that they were wrong. I didn’t mind the idea of signing Carroll, far from it, but the fee was ridiculous. It was unfair on the man himself, and made the club look foolish. Everybody understands that deadline day deals can carry a premium, especially if you’re...

Alan Flecther as Karl Kennedy in Neighbours
Kieran Kinsella
At 28 years of age, Neighbours is the longest running drama in Australian TV history. Despite its huge success down under, the show is arguably even more popular in the UK. Neighbours has served as a launching pad for stars such as Kylie Minogue and Russell Crowe but of the current cast members, none is more popular than Alan Fletcher who plays Dr Karl Kennedy. Neighbours star Sachin Joab has told Digital Spy that there may be some hope left for his character's marriage. The actor's alter ego Ajay Kapoor is left devastated on UK screens this evening (January 28) as he discovers that his wife Priya has been cheating on him with bad boy Paul Robinson. Priya (Menik Gooneratne) recently ended her fling with Paul, but the truth comes out when the Kapoors' teenage daughter Rani (Coco-Jacinta Cherian) exposes her mother's betrayal. Joab told Digital Spy: "At first Ajay thinks his daughter is lying to hurt her mother. Priya and Rani haven't been getting along, so he puts it down initially to teenage angst. Gooneratne gave her thoughts to MSN on why Priya cheated on husband Ajay (Sachin Joab) in the first place. "I think she was struggling in her marriage because she married quite young, she married because she fell pregnant," she said. "She was questioning, 'Is my husband married to me because he's doing the right thing or does he actually love me?' and all that she's seeing in the past is him choosing work over her and she thinks he's only in it to be the good father and the good husband. According to the Mail Online, Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson is now on Fulham’s wanted list after his move to Besiktas stalled.
After Blackburn failed to remain the Premier League last season after a dismal campaign, many players have signalled their intentions to move on, including Robinson. Even though the 32-year-old goalkeeper has one year left on his contract, it seems the former England goalkeeper wants to play in the Premier League no matter what.
Robinson joined Ewood Park in 2008 from Tottenham for around £3.5 million and has made over 150 appearances for Blackburn. He did everything to try and keep his club from slipping into the Championship.
Robinson looked set for Turkish side Besiktas, but the deal has now been put on hold, which has sparked interest from Fulham. It is unclear whether any other teams will be interested in the player now the deal with Besiktas has stalled, although...

Every weekday before Euro 2012 begins on June 8, we’ll preview a national team in the field, beginning with Group A and finishing with Group D. Today we continue Group D with England, a nation which continues its precipitous decline.
Nothing makes me happier than the fact that English fans finally have accepted the fact that the national team essentially have no chance to win a major international tournament. Even with a full squad they would struggle against European competition, but the prospects of making it out of the group stage become even more unlikely without the likes of Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Gary Cahill and Gareth Barry.
Group A Previews: Poland | Russia | Czech Republic | Greece

Team news ahead of Chelsea vs Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League this afternoon. Kick-off time is at 3pm at Stamford Bridge, synchronized with the rest of the final games of the season and the game won’t be televised live in the UK.

After seeing Real Madrid win the La Liga title this season, speculation from BBC Sport suggests that Barcelona are intending to strengthen their defence with a bid for 25-year-old Chelsea defender, David Luiz. Even though Luiz hasn’t been at the club long; it doesn’t seem to be the dream move he had hoped for and his erratic displays could see him become third choice centre-half next season behind John Terry and Gary Cahill.

Tottenham cruised to a 2-0 victory over a lifeless Blackburn side, in a game that was lit up by a sensational second-half free-kick from Kyle Walker, and moves Spurs back into the Champions League places.
It was a particularly insipid performance from Rovers who failed to register a single shot of any kind and now face the possibility of being relegated next Monday when they face Wigan.
Tottenham, on the other hand, dominated from start to finish and having taken the lead through Rafael van der Vaart half-way through the first period there was only ever going to be one outcome to this match.
Aaron Lennon missed a glorious opportunity to put his side 1-0 up within the first 60 seconds of the game but the winger failed to put the ball in the net after superb play by Luka Modric down the left. The Croatian burst through the Blackburn ranks...

Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points after a convincing 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at the Etihad Stadium. Goals from Mario Balotelli, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko secured the three points though it should really have been an even bigger scoreline. Once the first goal went in it was really a question of how many, and Steve Kean will perhaps be satisfied with a mere three goal deficit.
There were three good bits of news for Manchester City prior to the game. Firstly, a win would put them five points clear at the top of the table, secondly Yaya Toure started for the first time since departing to the African Cup of Nations, and thirdly, Mario Balotelli was back in the team, which was really good news for everyone apart from Blackburn Rovers fans. Money. On the surface of it, it's no more than paper and iron. Or an abstract figure in a bank account. And yet we just cannot do without it. Back in the day, people used to trade and barter as a means of payment, and judging by the still-forlorn economic picture, give it a few more years, and everyone will be forced to use beans, string and seeds as elementary commerce.
That grim view of the economy sure isn't helped by the constant bombardment of news reports, which I swear are getting odder by the day. Not least in the fact that on the one hand, we get reports of famous people who are shelling out on the swankiest clothes and bling to attend showbiz parties or awards dos. And also, there's some big do later on this year, for which money is apparently available in readiness for great big...

Chicago--"I don’t know why Rihanna complained, Chris Brown could beat me anytime he wanted to.”
This Tweet and similar others circulated in the days following Sunday’s Grammy Awards, where Chris Brown, known primarily as a singer and secondarily as the allegedly abusive ex-boyfriend of pop star Rihanna, performed twice during the two-hour show. His appearance came in the middle of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
The flippant responses to Brown's appearance -- from other artists, from the Grammy Foundation, which does extensive outreach work with youth, and from young people across social media platforms -- were especially jarring considering statistics showing that 1.5 million high school students will be abused by a dating partner in the Unite States this year.

It hasn’t been the best season so far for the North West club. The departure of Sam Allardyce left a hole that many never believed Steve Kean should have been given the chance to fill, and yet the new owners decided in their infinite wisdom to give the former Celtic player (and one-time candidate for the assistant manager’s job at Chelsea) a full-time contract.
The protests cannot be helping the team on the pitch, but it is plain to see that the current state of the squad isn’t exactly the prime foundation for success either. Decimated by injuries, Kean has been forced to blood youngsters well before they would usually gain any experience in the first team, and that inexperience has at times shown badly. He will get no praise when and if those youngsters turn out to be the next big thing, especially if Rovers continue to struggle.

Billed by some as the “Axe Factor”, this battle between the Premier League’s two most under-fire managers ended in a result that may well be the final nail in Steve Kean‘s coffin, as Blackburn were defeated 2-1 by Owen Coyle‘s Bolton.
Bolton’s utter domination of the first-half and goals from Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker were enough to see off a spirited second-half display from Rovers who grabbed one back through Yakubu.
It was Bolton who looked the more up for the game from the off and landed the first blow after just five minutes when Davies struck the ball low past Paul Robinson after some woeful Rovers defending.
The Bolton fans were in high voice before the goal, drowning out the home fans with ease, and met Davies’ strike with even more raucous chanting. If the Blackburn fans were heard at all it was their chants of “Kean out!
