“I can now accept taking on continued treatment”: Not Ahmed Best, Another Star Wars Actor Doomed by Prequel Trilogy Gives Major Update Following Schizophrenia Diagnosis
Image
The Star Wars franchise has one of pop culture’s most vocal and outspoken fanbases. As a result, the franchise has seen a trend of its actors receiving unfair treatment from the fans, including the unnecessarily aggressive hate directed at Ahmed Best for portraying the comic relief character Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy.

The Phantom Menace started the Star Wars prequel trilogy (Credit: Lucasfilm).

Like Best, actor Jake Lloyd, who played a young Anakin Skywalker in the first installment of the prequels, was also criticized for his acting chops. He was later diagnosed with schizophrenia amidst an ongoing struggle with mental health issues. Nonetheless, the start of 2025 brought a positive update on Lloyd’s health, and here is what he had to say about his well-being.

Is It Really The End For You’ve Been Framed?
Image
In the desert days before Charlie bit anyone’s finger and that baby panda sneezed its way into our hearts, there was scant opportunity to see funny home videos. Video recording equipment was strictly a luxury item. Even if your town had a Rumbelows, it would set you back roughly the price of an Austin Allegro Estate to buy a camcorder only slightly smaller than an Austin Allegro Estate.

All of which meant that back then, the only way to see a toddler accidentally tip their nan into a pond, or a drunken man fall foul of an attempt to ride his son’s BMX up an improvised garden ramp was to be there in person.

You’d hear tales. Playground talk about the pantomime horse that skidded off the school stage, or the wildlife park monkey who stole some auntie’s sunglasses. A schoolmate might come back from the...

You’ve Been Framed ‘cancelled by ITV’ after 33 years
Image
You’ve Been Framed has reportedly been axed after 33 years on air.

The long-running ITV show, which compiled home videos of accidents and funny moments, was launched in 1990. Jeremy Beadle was the original narrator.

Most recently, comedian Harry Hill was serving as presenter, fronting 341 of 701 episodes.

As reported by The Sun, the series – which once attracted 15 million people in its prime – is coming to an end.

An insider told the publication: “The fact that You’ve Been Framed has been shelved is a sad sign of the times.”

They continued: “It’s a different world to Jeremy Beadle’s heyday. Why would viewers tune in to a show featuring funny videos when they could see the same sort of thing on the internet?

“Silly clips are hugely popular on social media and the right video can go viral. There’s a thrill in achieving that – even though you don’t...

What's Happening with Star Wars Actor Jake Lloyd? His Family Offers a Health Update
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in La guerra de las galaxias (1977)
Star Wars franchise actor Jake Lloyd has been largely off the radar for years amid his continued struggles with mental illness, and now the former child star's family has offered a positive update on what's been happening with him lately. As a child actor, Lloyd's earliest movie appearances include roles in Jingle All the Way and Apollo 11.

At the age of nine, Lloyd then became a household name when he appeared as the young version of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, a role which he would later reprise for Star Wars video games.

Unfortunately, the years since The Phantom Menace haven't been very kind to Lloyd. The child star would officially retire from acting in 2001, later claiming this was due to the bullying he had endured at school over his role in the movie. In 2015, Lloyd's name would make headlines when he was arrested for reckless driving,...

Watch Jedward prepare for a dunking on ITV's Keep It In The Family
Brotherly love is tested to the limit on this week's episode of Keep It In The Family, as Jedward face off against each other in an attempt to avoid a dunking.

The twins do their best to persuade a young contestant to spare them from a short fall into a tank of water in a new clip from the ITV show.

One of the singers tries to sell a trip to a safari park, while the other bigs up a spin on the London Eye.

This week's show also sees host Bradley Walsh look on as Jason Gardiner and Lisa Riley take a plunge.

Keep It In The Family continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV.

Elsewhere, Jedward gave some surprisingly blunt - and unsurprisingly daft - answers in a Digital Spy '60 Seconds' interview recently.

2012 belonged to Strictly Come Dancing. It was the year that the nation's dancing shoes were reignited and the glitterball shined brighter than ever before. Hopping on the back of the Olympics spirit with Louis Smith and Victoria Pendleton, the BBC talent show rode a wave of feel-good enthusiasm and swept up the nation at the end of last year.

Brucie defied his years and reeled out his one-liners with more spark and character than TV presenters a third his age. With Denise Van Outen,...

The Guide's 1,000th issue - 1994-1999
Revisiting 18 years of pop culture, from Britpop to the Spice Girls, via Father Ted

1994: Mad fer it!

Issue No 1 Previously a broadsheet section in the newspaper, The Guide was expanded into a magazine proper on 27 August 1994. Nobody bothered to archive a copy, though, so the best we can do is show you a Xeroxed reproduction of the cover. At the time we were concerned with the weird state of science shows on TV and had a wander around the Notting Hill Carnival.

Spotted! All Saints From a review of their single Silver Shadow: "Born in the same year and in the same area of London, what else could these girls do but form a swingbeat group? Their debut is a sickly Atlantic Starr cover with an idiotic number of mixes, encompassing every dance style bar Morris. Eternal may rest easy in their Timberlands." Note: swingbeat was a form of...

Bradley Wiggins Sports Personality of the Year win seen by 14.5m
Bradley Wiggins in Good Morning Britain (2014)
The BBC's Sports Personality of the Year programme achieved a gigantic peak audience of 14.5 million - a 57.5% share - last night (December 16). Celebrating a historic year for British sport, the annual awards ceremony averaged 10.57m (39.6%) between 7.30pm and 10.30pm, reaching a high in the last five minutes as Bradley Wiggins was named winner. Despite the impact of the 2012 Olympics, the figure is unexpected as last year's ceremony averaged only 4.2m. Strictly Come Dancing, which preceded Sports Personality of the Year, attracted 10.73m (42.5%) for Lisa Riley's departure and topped the night. BBC One beat ITV in every primetime slot, with Countryfile (6.16m/28.1%) and the late BBC News (8.99m/43.7%) also performing well. Meanwhile, new costume drama The Making of a Lady pulled in 3.29m (more)...

Craig Revel Horwood: Denise won't win 'Strictly'
Craig Revel Horwood doesn't think Denise Van Outen will win 'Strictly Come Dancing'. The 47-year-old panellist feels people aren't getting behind the TV presenter - who was saved by the judges on last night's (16.12.12) semi-final results show in place of Lisa Riley - because of her professional dance training. Despite wowing the judges with her routines and booking a place in next weekend's final, the 38-year-old star has landed in the bottom two twice in as many weeks, and Craig doesn't think she will get the better of Olympian Louis Smith, 23, actress Dani Harmer, 23, and Girls Aloud singer...

Lisa Riley: 'Strictly Come Dancing' was better than sex
Lisa Riley says being on 'Strictly Come Dancing' was better than sex. The former 'Emmerdale' actress - who was voted off the BBC dancing competition at the semi-final stage last night (16.12.12) - gained a new-found confidence after going from a size 26 to an 18 because of the challenging dance routines, but admits she hasn't had time for love. The former Emmerdale actress was voted out of the BBC show at the semi-final stage after losing the dance-off to Denise Van Outen. Riley revealed that most of the Strictly staff and audience joined her in tears after her exit yesterday (December 16). "I was devastated to leave. Never before on Strictly had the entire gallery been in tears," she told The Sun. "Everyone knows I wear my heart on my sleeve. I did cry but I'm not sad, I've had the best outcome in the world."
