Exclusive: Vito Schnabel (Before Night Falls), Julia Fox (Uncut Gems) and Steven Van Zandt (The Sopranos) have signed on to star in the dark comedy The Trainer, which Tony Kaye (American History X) is directing from a script by Schnabel and Jeff Solomon.
In development for nearly a decade, The Trainer is based on an original story by Schnabel. The film unfolding over eight days of sleep-deprived chaos follows Jack (Schnabel), a down-on-his-luck fitness expert living with his mother in Los Angeles, who takes a maniacal swing at fame and fortune, trying to realize his version of the American dream.
Schnabel, Kaye and Jeremy Steckler are producing, with George Paaswell on board to exec produce. Production will kick off in Los Angeles in early April.

The American 1980s didn’t begin or end with Ingrid Sischy, but her tenure as editor-in-chief of Artforum — from 1980, when she was 27, to 1988 — made her a perpetual presence, lightning-rod gatekeeper, and immense id of artistic status, ambition, and fame. Friend of Julian Schnabel, Jeff Koons, Nan Goldin, Francesco Clemente, Peter Hujar, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lil' Kim, Chloë Sevigny, Miuccia Prada, Sean Penn, Helmut Lang, Todd Solondz, k.d. lang, Valentino, and Veronica Webb, and nurturer and torturer of gifted writers like Rene Ricard and Lisa Liebmann, this Sarah Lawrence graduate was a poster child for the unbridled desire of the 1980s, its creative pretentiousness in its very best and most crazy forms, the one who helped integrate underground, mainstream, fashion, rock 'n' roll, and anyone who showed up and tried to make a connection. When The New Yorker called Sischy “Girl of the Zeitgeist” above an epic...

He's no stranger to living the high life around larger-than-life personalities as the son of outsized artist and director Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and Butterfly). But now that he's been linked to Demi Moore, 26-year-old Vito Schnabel may just get a taste of fame on his own terms. The eldest son of Julian, Vito grew up around art world and Hollywood royalty before eventually making his own name as a curator and art dealer as a teenager. "They are just constantly around beautiful and fabulous women and run with a very cool crowd," a source tells People of the Schnabel family.

Director: Ry Russo-Young Writers: Ry Russo-Young, Stella Schnabel Starring: Stella Schnabel, Simon O Connor, Carlen Altman, Rene Ricard, Donald Cumming Shelly (Stella Schnabel -- daughter of Julian Schnabel) is a twenty-something aspiring actress armed with with plethora of problems -- many of which are psychological in origin -- flopping around amongst the young bohemian hipsters of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Chock full of contradictions: she says that she wants to find love, yet she hooks up with guys (and girls) with whom she has no chance of a relationship; she actively auditions for acting roles, yet she does not seem interested in winning the roles; she is astutely perceptive (and critical) of the world around her, yet she is unable to differentiate between the reality and fiction of her own life; she possesses a solid personal code of ethics, yet she can toss that code aside at the blink of an eye.

Ry Russo-Young's pseudo fictional experimental account (a breath of fresh air in the context of the 30 odd films I saw at 2009's Sundance Film Festival) will finally receive some a theatrical release via the Factory 25 folks. Albeit it'll be a short two weeks and then a DVD release - which could be read as a derogatory remark of sorts, but instead I'm glad that a new Palm Pictures type of label have emerged. The Brooklyn based company are taking on low budget doc films and indie features such You Wont Miss Me and providing filmmakers to at least have a vehicle it's Doa. The pic starring Stella Schnabel will be released on November 12th at the Cinema Village - which is about 3 weeks before her father's film (Miral) from Julian is released via the Weinstein Co. We recently reported that Russo-Young recently paired up with Tiny Furniture's creator...

'This is a NY movie about a person who does fucked-up things but has a profound sense of humanity,' says director Ry Russo-Young of her second feature film You Won't Miss Me. Nominated for a Gotham Independent Film Award, the film is screening this week as part of the MoMA series, Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You. You Won't Miss Me follows Shelly Brown, a 23-year-old actress recently released from psychiatric care, as she wanders through New York, going to parties and auditions between her visits with her psychiatrist. The film stars Stella Schnabel (daughter of artist/filmmaker Julian Schnabel), and features Rene Ricard and other notable New York personalities. New Yorkers Russo-Young and Schnabel co-wrote You Won't Miss Me, which premiered at Sundance 2009 before screening at SXSW and other noteworthy festivals. Unlike films made about New York that skim the surface of the city, You...
