The Naked Gun 33 1/3: Was It Always Supposed to End the Franchise?
Image
When the great Leslie Nielsen made the media rounds in 1996, promoting his James Bond spoof, Spy Hard, everyone wanted to know one thing. Was he shocked when O.J. Simpson was arrested for murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and Ron Goldman, and did he think he was guilty? Ever the Canadian gent, Nielsen retired the ever-present fart machine he enjoyed using in interviews, and tried to give a thoughtful answer. She was named Finals Mvp.

Jones appears in the cheeky spot that revolves around auto insurance, a damaged sports car, New York Liberty legend and ESPN commentator Rebecca Lobo and the team’s free-spirited mascot, Ellie the Elephant. And of course, Jake from State Farm, the amiable insurance rep...

DWTS Contestant Bobby Bones' Win Still Shocks Fans To This Day
Image
Like any long-running reality TV show, Dancing With the Stars has had its fair share of controversy. For example, actor Cameron Mathison had to change professional dancers due to his wife's jealousy, contestant Bristol Palin revealed pro dancer Maks Chmerkovskiy hated her, and Bachelor Nation's Charity Lawson revealed she went "through hell and back" while competing because she experienced intense bullying online.

However, one extremely controversial DWTS moment that fans just can't seem to get over is when radio personality Bobby Bones won Season 27. Viewers truly believed that Bobby did not deserve the mirrorball trophy because he was a mediocre dancer at best. Despite this, Bobby was a fan-favorite and took home the top prize with his dancing pro partner Sharna Burgess.

Image
Mary Lou Retton, the first American woman to win Olympic gold in the gymnastics all-around competition, has opened up about the fat-shaming she endured following her historic victory at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

Retton, now 56, revealed that despite her athletic build, she was often criticized for her body type. “I was considered a big girl at 4 foot 9 and 94 pounds,” Retton told People. “They’d say, ‘You are heavy. You’re fat. This is not what gymnastics is supposed to look like.'”

The five-time Olympic medalist recalled being compared unfavorably to Earl Campbell, a former NFL running back known for his muscular thighs. Retton emphasized that such comparisons were not intended as compliments.

Looking back, Retton expressed pride in her physique and her role in changing perceptions of gymnasts’ body types. She sees her influence reflected in the powerful builds of modern gymnasts like Simone Biles.

Retton’s daughter, McKenna Kelley, started a Spotfund account and explained her mother’s battle with a rare form of pneumonia. Retton has been in the ICU for “over a week” and is unable to breathe on her own.

Kelley did not provide any further details but mentioned that Retton was uninsured and asked that people pray for her mother at the end of the post.

Retton made her mark in gymnastics in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

She won five medals in the Summer Games that year, which included a gold medal in the individual all-around competition – a first for any American woman. She also took home two silver medals and two bronze medals that year, and her accomplishments earned her the title of Sportsperson of the Year by Sports Illustrated.

After she stopped gymnastics,...

Image
Mary Lou Retton is hospitalized with a rare condition of pneumonia and is said to be “fighting for her life” in the ICU. The Olympic champion was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars Season 27 where she was partnered with professional dancer Sasha Farber.

Farber has been in touch with Retton since her hospitalization and provided a health update during an interview with Et.

“I’ve been talking to her today. She’s fighting… she kind of wants to give up,” Farber said. “I’m sending videos of her dancing and I’m telling her there’s only one Mary Lou Retton, you’ve got this.”

He continued, “It’s crazy because last week, she was in LA (or two weeks ago) and she wanted to meet up and I had rehearsals and I couldn’t. She was like, ‘Let me take you out for dinner.’ And I couldn’t go because I had rehearsals.

Taika Waititi and Billy Luther Set Out to Make Indigenous Stories Feel Less ‘Alien’
Image
After years of working in Hollywood, Taika Waititi has lived through the classic biopic scene where a protagonist wakes up and immediately questions all of their life choices.

“What the fuck am I doing? Why am I doing this? For what reason? There’s no purpose and I’m getting nothing out of this,” Waititi said in an interview with IndieWire at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. “And then we realize, ‘Oh, but the reason we do this is to help people in our community.’ To keep pulling each other up and supporting each other, that is the purpose. That’s the reason to be doing any of this.”

Though he has made headlines for being at the festival to premiere his long-awaited sports comedy “Next Goal Wins,” Waititi is also promoting the independent film “Frybread Face and Me” from writer-director Billy Luther, which he executive produced. The coming-of-age story...

Sharna Burgess in Dancing with the Stars (2005)
Which Mirrorball-less male ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pro are you rooting for?
Sharna Burgess in Dancing with the Stars (2005)
Sharna Burgess got hers last year. Is it time for one of the guys to get theirs? Save for Val Chmerkovskiy, none of the male pros left on “Dancing with the Stars” this season have ever won the show before — and neither had first bootee Brandon Armstrong. Compare that to the female pros, all of whom have triumphed, including Cheryl Burke who left this week after Ray Lewis withdrew due to injury. Truly a case of the haves and the have-nots. Will a first-time guy break through this season? And if so, which one of these four dudes do you want to get their hands on a Mirrorball first?

In his seventh season as a pro, Gleb Savchenko debuted in Season 16 with Lisa Vanderpump, finishing 10th. His other placements have generally been toward the back of the pack, except for Season 23, where he made it to fourth place with Jana Kramer.

Do we have our first contestant of “Dancing with the Stars” Season 28? It’s not set in stone yet, but don’t be surprised if one of the names you’ll hear announced later this summer is Katelyn Ohashi.

Who? She’s an All-American gymnast at UCLA. If you were anywhere near the internet in January, you may recall her floor exercise routine at the Collegiate Challenge that went viral. You know the one. She got a perfect 10 for her frenetic, booty-shaking routine to a medley of hits, including “Proud Mary,” “September” and “I Want You Back,” that, lbr, did half the work in making it go viral. Then Ohashi clapped back at lame body-shaming trolls on “Good Morning America,” which, hey, airs on ABC just like “Dancing”!

Anyway, Ohashi, who will graduate from UCLA in June, is officially done with gymnastics (injuries had long ago derailed her elite senior...

‘The Masked Singer’ Unicorn takes on Britney Spears, teases that she’s a gymnast ‘in the bedroom’ [Watch]
Mask Singer (États-Unis) (2019)
“For years I’ve been lacking confidence because I lost my sheen,” Unicorn revealed in the third episode of “The Masked Singer.” She then added, “Before my last performance I was so scared, but as soon as I stepped on that stage, I was flying high.” For her encore performance, Unicorn took on Britney Spears‘s “Oops!… I Did It Again” and had judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke scratching their heads about her true identity. Watch the performance above.

When host Nick Cannon asked Unicorn if she was a gymnast, the costumed celeb quickly responded, “In the bedroom.” In the “clues” portion of Fox’s reality TV show, Unicorn teased, “I came here to conquer my fear of singing and of being judged. And I did it. So this week I’m going to exude model behavior. I’m feeling victorious and tonight I am going for the gold.

A majority of “Dancing with the Stars” fans wanted the perpetually cursed Keo Motsepe to win Season 27 over four-time finalist Sharna Burgess, but now that she got her Mirrorball, you don’t think Motsepe is the most overdue pro. Nope, 38 percent of you think that title now belongs to Sasha Farber.

Farber, who was eliminated in ninth place this season with Mary Lou Retton, has been on six seasons, first appearing as a pro in Season 17. One of the most easygoing pros, he posted his best finish with Tonya Harding in third place on Season 26. His best chance at a win, however, was arguably with Simone Biles in Season 24, but the pair was shockingly axed in the semifinal. His wife, Emma Slater, ended up winning that season with Rashad Jennings, and you know the show would like to have three pro couples who’ve won Mirrorballs.

Motsepe grabbed 34 percent of the vote.

Sharna Burgess in Dancing with the Stars (2005)
Sharna Burgess got hers, so who’s the most overdue ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pro now?
Sharna Burgess in Dancing with the Stars (2005)
Sharna Burgess finally won “Dancing with the Stars” with a partner she probably never expected to win with, Bobby Bones, and that means the 12-season veteran and former four-time finalist can at long last shed her bridesmaid status. So to whom does that label go next? Of the current cast, four pros have been on at least five seasons and they all just so happen to be dudes. This makes sense since Burgess was the only female pro who hadn’t won on Season 27 and Val Chmerkovskiy was the only male pro who had won. So which of these four guys would you like to see win next?

The “oldest” of these four, in terms of their inaugural seasons, not tenures, is Gleb Savchenko. He made his pro debut in Season 16, along with Burgess and Lindsay Arnold, and finished in 10th place with Lisa Vanderpump. He didn’t return to...
