Who Are The Marauders In Harry Potter? The Cut Movie Storyline, Explained
Image
A lot of stuff got left on the cutting room floor when Warner Bros. started adapting the "Harry Potter" books into blockbuster movies, the first of which, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (or "Philosopher's Stone" if you don't live in the United States), hit theaters in November 2001. This was followed by the release of "Chamber of Secrets" in 2002, and when the third novel, "Prisoner of Azkaban," was adapted two years later, fans of the books were probably excited to learn a little more about the backstory of Harry's (played by Daniel Radcliffe in the films) father, James Potter (played by Adrian Rawlins as an adult in the films), whose death, along with that of his wife and Harry's mother Lily (played by Geraldine Somerville as an adult in the films), sets Harry's story in motion before the narrative even begins. Those fans would have been bitterly disappointed, though!

Why Did Voldemort Kill Harry Potter's Parents?
Image
In the "Harry Potter" books — and the film franchise they spawned — Harry, played on-screen by Daniel Radcliffe, faces off against a number of different villains and antagonists. None of them loom quite as large as Voldemort, though. Originally named Tom Marvolo Riddle and played, after he regains corporeal form in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," by Ralph Fiennes, the Dark Lord was one of the most feared and evil wizards in the entire wizarding world ... Until he got his butt kicked by a baby. Let me explain.

Before the proper narrative of "Harry Potter" even gets going, Voldemort takes it upon himself to "visit" the Potter family home in the sleepy wizarding hamlet of Godric's Hollow so that he can murder the trio, including baby Harry and his parents James (Adrian Rawlins) and Lily (Geraldine Somerville). So, why does Voldemort attempt infanticide and murder two people in the process?...

Harry Potter Reboot Rejects 42-Year-Old Man for Hermione as Thousands Audition for Main Roles
Image
In September, Warner Bros. posted a casting call for the three lead child actors to play Harry, Hermione, and Ron in the new Harry Potter reboot. Over 32,000 audition tapes were sent in, including some very interesting ones.

Per the Daily Mail, a 42-year-old man tried his chance to get an audition to play Hermione Granger. The casting agents are reportedly going through thousands of audition tapes daily, and the lead roles' age limit was between 9 and 11. The man was not successful in his bid to become the new Hermione Granger, after Emma Watson played the role in the original films.

HBO's Harry Potter show will start filming next summer, and expansions from the books could be afoot
Image
The other day, select journalists got to see sneak peaks of some new shows heading to HBO, including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the second season of The Last of Us. Executives also revealed that HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV show would start filming in the summer of 2025, which puts it on track for a late 2026 or 2027 release.

Obviously, the Harry Potter show is a big deal for the network. The books by J.K. Rowling are still beloved and the movies modern classics. Per Variety, the show "had auditioned 32,000 kids to play the lead roles," which I assume means characters like Harry Potter, Hermoine Granger and Ron Weasley, three kids who become friends while attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The casting team is reportedly reviewing between 500 and 1,000 audition tapes per day. This sounds insane, but if you don't cast those roles correctly, you don't have a show,...

'Chernobyl': This HBO Historical Epic Puts 'Real' Horror Films to Shame
Image
This article contains spoilers for the 2019 HBO miniseries Chernobyl.Created by Craig Mazin in 2019 for HBO, Chernobyl is one of the more haunting horror projects made in the last two decades. Though, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who deems it horror at all, despite utilizing the tropes of the genre better than most full-fledged horror flicks. Written by Mazin, and directed by filmmaking partner Johann Renck (the duo later collaborating on the more conventional HBO series The Last of Us), the sprawling five-and-a-half-hour-long TV series masterfully weaves in disparate, genre-defying storylines that give a broad but chilling glimpse into the impact of the explosion of Reactor #4.

An American production with British actors playing Slavs, Chernobyl dramatizes the April 1986 nuclear accident in northern Ukraine. Soviet leadership serves as the de facto villain, the socialist state's hierarchies never built to be questioned, let alone countermanded. Our protagonist, Valery Legasov (Jared Harris...

“A move that forever annoys me”: HBO’s Harry Potter Reboot Can Finally Correct One Frustrating Decision the Films Made For Harry’s Parents
Image
When books are being adapted into a live-action medium, it is only natural that some changes will be made to better tell a story. When the Harry Potter films first began to take shape, it was only natural that a similar approach was taken with them. Although J.K. Rowling made most of the decisions that were taken in the films, some choices ended up being quite controversial among the fandom.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone | Credits: Warner Bros. Pictures

Be it Dumbledore’s reaction to Harry putting his name in the Goblet of Fire or Ginny Weasley’s character, certain changes have been poorly received by its viewers over the years. One of the lesser talked about decisions still ended up impacting characters in a very significant way. Thankfully, HBO’s upcoming reboot could easily fix this.

This Harry Potter Character Is Lauded as a Hero But He’s Really a Dick
Image
Harry Potter features many characters who fall into the category of morally gray. This allows for more complex character arcs that greatly enhance the story. Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) and Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) are the most common examples, but there are many throughout the series. However, the fans don't always acknowledge it, choosing instead to see a harsh division between good and evil, leaving them to cheer for characters as undisputed heroes rather than complex individuals. With so many characters in the series, some appear very little, yet they are still important to the story. Perhaps the best example of this is the father of the franchise's hero, James Potter (Adrian Rawlins), who is dead before the story begins, but serves as a role model for Harry (Daniel Radcliffe). Being both morally gray and rarely onscreen leaves James in an odd situation, of which fans often ignore the nuances.
