Debonair, well-spoken British character actor, usually of establishment figures, such as politicians or military men. Made his stage debut in 'The Comedy of Errors' at the Old Vic School Theatre in 1951. After that, acted in repertory theatre in Oldham, Canterbury, Liverpool and Derby. Acted on Broadway in 'The School for Scandal' in 1963, and, the following year in London at the West End in 'Poor Bitos'. Known, particularly, for his television appearances on 'The Pallisers' and as a popular guest star on 'Doctor Who'.
