Standup comedian Bert Kreischer is set to star in and executive produce “Cabin,” a new Netflix improv comedy series based on Martin Petit’s “Les Pecheurs,” TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Additionally, Kreischer has set his second comedy special for the streaming service, “Bert Kreischer: Hey Big Boy.” The standup event, which is directed by Jeff Tomsic and produced by Jax, will launch March 17.
Here is the logline for “Cabin,” per Netflix:
After years on the grind, Bert Kreischer sets out on a purifying retreat to a remote cabin. But Bert only has one speed. Joined by his celebrity friends, Bert attempts bizarre therapy techniques, intense physical challenges, and ridiculously improvised encounters with nature. Why a career in filmmaking? Was there that one inspirational moment?
The earliest memory I have is of watching Star Wars and being blown away by the story – just the scope of the film. I loved the whole experience, and it was in that moment that I fell in love with film. But I would say the first moment was when I was in my mid-teens, and I actually started to consider working in the industry.
You’ve spoken of the impression Star Wars made, but was this the source of your interest in storytelling or does it lie outside of film?

Chicago – Has Vince Vaughn peaked?
Since hit films like “Swingers” and “Wedding Crashers,” critical flops like “Couples Retreat” and “The Dilemma” have shown he’s fighting an uphill battle to find redemption. While “Delivery Man” isn’t his re-breakout role, it does show you a lesser-seen side: his drama instead of his comedy.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The problem is “Delivery Man” is supposed to be funny. Inspired by the 2011 Canadian hit comedy “Starbuck” – in which Patrick Huard plays David Wozniak in the French version of this film – “Delivery Man” fails as a comedy where “Starbuck” succeeds. While you’ll be disappointed if you’re expecting another “Swingers”-like comedy from Vince Vaughn, you’ll be surprised to see his softer, paternal and caregiver side instead of his trademark party manboy.

Unlike most Hollywood remakes of foreign-language pictures, Delivery Man was made by the same filmmaker responsible for the French-Canadian hit Starbuck. Although many critics complained that his comedy was overly sentimental, audiences responded strongly. That’s why DreamWorks saw remake potential and hired Ken Scott to direct and revise the screenplay he originally wrote with Martin Petit.Delivery Man is a perfect fit for Vince Vaughn as a likable, lifelong screw-up. He works in his family’s meat business (as an admittedly incompetent delivery man) and tries maintaining a relationship with a smart, attractive girlfriend (Cobie Smulders) who’s finally losing patience with his...

The Americanization of Fertility: Scott’s Sterile Remake a Stale Venture
With Delivery Man, which is a remake of his 2011 French Canadian hit, Starbuck, director Ken Scott joins an elite group of filmmakers, such as Michael Haneke and George Sluizer, who have taken on the responsibility of directing English language remakes of their own prolific titles. Though these carbon copies, while even from the same authorial voices, are often subpar when compared to the first film, it often seems a protective and intriguing gesture. But even for those unfamiliar with Scott’s first film, which was just as ridiculous but managed to muster a reasonable amount of hangdog charm to coast by, there’s an unmistakable taste of canned inspiration at the center here, a tired formula that lazily regurgitates itself into the ill-fitting dress of the Hollywood star system.

Did you know that "Delivery Man," the movie about a man who fathered 533 children starring Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders, was originally a Canadian movie called "Starbuck"?
Now, in 2013, the original director (Ken Scott) and screenwriter (Martin Petit) are back at the helm. "Delivery Man" is tough to define -- it doesn't fall into either the drama or comedy categories -- but the end result is the same: you leave the theatre with a warm heart.
Moviefone chatted with Smulders for a few minutes about her role, how her Canadianness played a part, and how she felt after watching the movie herself.
(Watch the video interview, above.)
"Delivery Man" is out in theatres on November 22.

Vince Vaughn plays a chronic sperm donor whose progeny come back to haunt him in this American remake of 2011's Starbuck.
Warmth and fuzziness abounds in Delivery Man, a feel-good yarn about a lovable loser of a meat delivery truck whose old side gig as a fertility clinic donor has resulted in his being the dad of hundreds of biological children, of whom 142 have filed a lawsuit to reveal his identity.
An extremely faithful re-telling of Starbuck, a popular 2011 French-Canadian comedy directed and co-written by Ken Scott (who duplicates his services here), the fictional film politely abstains from tapping the storyline’s ripe, satirical potential in favor of a softer-around-the-edges approach.
Thanks to some potent performances, led by Vince Vaughn in a decidedly change-of-pace, reflective turn, this Disney release proves lightly entertaining in spite of its more heartfelt tendencies.

A new poster is in from DreamWorks' Delivery Man throwing star Vince Vaughn's David Wozniak in front of some of the kids he's unknowingly fathered. It looks a bit too photoshopped with the group in the back blurred, indicating a previous image with Vaughn transplanted over the front, and perhaps working that a bit to make it come off a tad more realistic, would have improved the overall product, but not too shabby. Delivery Man really does look like a solid comedy, mixing in moments of drama, that should leave audiences feeling warm and fuzzy come its November 22nd, 2013 release date. At the recent Los Angeles red carpet premiere, we caught up with Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders, writer Martin Petit, who co-wrote the original Starbuck on which this film is based, alongside helmer Ken Scott, producer Andre Rouleau and executive producer Scott Mednick, Dave Patten, Derrick Arthur and Stephen Ellis.

I took a flight out for 1 night from Lexington Kentucky to Los Angeles to cover the red carpet premiere of DreamWorks Pictures' Delivery Man, where we managed to catch up with stars Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders, co-writer Martin Petit, producer Andre Roulou, executive producer Scott Mednick and more. Fans were packing in to watch celebs come in for the screening at the El Capitan Theater, which took place on November 3rd, 2013. Delivery Man is a remake of the 2011 film called Starbuck, starring Patrick Huard, and has the original film's co-writers Ken Scott and Martin Petit on board, with Scott directing once again. From the feedback we got, the feel is that both cast and filmmakers are invested emotionally in this project, which is always a good sign, and from the videos we've seen, come November 22nd, 2013, Delivery Man should deliver laughs and heartwarming moments alike.

Too much of anything is not good, except maybe it can be. Starbuck is a lighthearted comedy that explores a fresh take about the serious side of what it means to be a father through the lens of someone totally unprepared not just for one child, but for 143 of them.
David Wozniak (Patrick Huard) is a perpetual screwball who has never managed to make the right choices in life. In his forties, working as a delivery driver for his father's butchery, with thugs shaking him down for $80,000 in unpaid debts, David learns of his girlfriend's pregnancy. At the same time, he is confronted by a lawyer with some surprising news.
The lawyer represents a fertility clinic where, during his twenties, David was the most prolific donor, having made deposits over 600 times. It's explained that he has very high-quality sperm, and the doctor who operated the clinic was a little crazy...

It’s been a solid year for the independent comedy. Where the sub-genre used to just get by on its quirkiness and mimic a style often overrated by Wes Anderson, this new batch seems to get that just being generally simple will be enough. Case in point: Starbuck. Ken Scott and Martin Petit have scripted a fun, well-crafted comedy, with Scott’s directing being focused more on storytelling rather than how many quirks can they fit into their picture. The film is headlined by Patrick Huard, who gives an absolutely great performance as David Wozniak, a man who has fathered 533 children. Huard plays David reserved, not indulging overly comedic and comes [ Read More ]

Chicago – “You’ll believe a man can have 533 children” might be a better tagline than, “You’ll believe a man can fly.” The extremely funny new Canadian film “Starbuck” will not only make you a true believer, but also loudly professes a romantic and gooey refrain that is sometimes necessary in a cold, cynical world.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Right off the bat, “Starbuck” is a really funny film, even in a movie universe burnt out by the definition of funny. It takes the absurdist premise that youthful donations to a fertility clinic results in several hundred children, and riffs on it until virtually any commentary in the film regarding it produces a good laugh. It is also eventually and unabashedly sentimental about the whole scenario, and that might be a bit cloying, but the film earns the right by setting up the laughs beforehand. For hilarity and heart, this is the movie...

One, two or three kids may be a lot of children to some people. But, to be the father of over 500 children may be ridiculous.
The French-Canadian comedy “Starbuck” has been finally released in some theaters in select cities in America. It will expand with a wider release to more cities this upcoming weekend.
The plot is about a 42-year-old man who decides to finally take control of his life. However, his past as a habitual sperm donor finally catches up to him as he discovers he is the father of 533 children and with 142 of them suing for the real identity of “Starbuck.”
The movie stars Patrick Huard, Julie LeBreton and Antoine Bertrand.
“Starbuck” was so successful in the Canadian box office that DreamWorks will be releasing the American remake “The Delivery Man” starring Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders and Bobby Moynihan on October 4th. Ken Scott directed both movies.

So who’s your daddy?
The successful French-Canadian comedy “Starbuck” is finally released this weekend in the United States. Its success in Canada even green lit an American remake starring Vince Vaughn titled “The Delivery Man” to be released later this year. And the original film is good enough that a remake may not be necessary.
The touching story is about David Wozniak (played by Patrick Huard), a single-man who drives a meat delivery truck for his father’s business. And then his past catches up to him with a representative from a fertility clinic informing him that he is indeed the biological father of 533 children with 142 of them suing the clinic for the real identity of “Starbuck.”
With the identities of the children known, David proceeds to stalk his children to know them personally and anonymously (creepy, but isn’t that what’s Facebook is for?).

"Starbuck" is a big, fat French-Canadian hug of a movie, a sperm-donations-gone-wrong farce that manages the occasional belly laugh, but also offers moving takes on parenthood, family and what it means to grow up.
David Wozniak (Patrick Huard) makes one wonder what the French word for "galoot" is. He's the black sheep in his Montreal family, a thirty-something slacker who can't do the easiest job in the family's butcher shop right -- driving the delivery truck. He's forever taking the truck for personal errands, forgetting to do this or that and then lying the moment he's found out.
He's in hock to loan sharks. His idea for making extra cash is setting up a pot-growing operation in his apartment. And when his girlfriend (Julie LeBreton) tells him that she's pregnant, that's her brush-off line. She doesn't want their baby's father to be a lout "who doesn't have a life."
David promises to mend his ways.

One of the year’s best comedies is about to hit DVD thanks to the French-Canadian duo of director Ken Scott and his co-screenwriter, comedian Martin Petit. In fact, the Montreal set Starbuck has been so well received that Scott is currently helming the Hollywood re-make starring Vince Vaughn currently titled The Delivery Man. Yet, if there was ever a foreign feature in no need of an English language re-make, then Starbuck is it.
Patrick Huard is likable loser David Wozniak, who back during his Uni days in the 80s engaged in a certain kind of manual labour for extra income. Trading his splash for cash under the alias of “Starbuck”, David remains blissfully unaware of the seeds he has indirectly planted. However, a lawsuit more...

When are “lovable” movie losers even more (allegedly) lovable? When they’re all foreign and arthousey, of course! French-Canadian 40something manchild David (Patrick Huard) is constantly letting down friends and family with his unreliability, and now he might have lots of new people to disappoint: the 142 offspring he fathered via sperm donation years earlier. There’s many more of them, actually -- 533 -- but only 142 are party to a class-action lawsuit to get a Montreal fertility clinic to reveal the identity of the donor they have in common, known to them only as “Starbuck.” The legalities of such a situation are brushed aside in a way that is actively offensive from a narrative perspective: overpowering feel-good music is the only soundtrack for the couple of courtroom scenes, so we have no idea of the relative merits of either side of the case, for or against David retaining his anonymity; and the legal,...

Released in Canada last year, the French-Canadian hit comedy, Starbuck, was received with brilliant reviews – you can read our review here – and has since prompted a Hollywood remake, starring Vince Vaughn, which is due out in Autumn 2013.
The original will be released here in the UK next Friday, and after catching the UK trailer last month, we’ve got an exclusive clip from the upcoming comedy to share.
“At 42, David lives the life of an irresponsible adolescent. Twenty years earlier, he’d provided sperm to a fertility clinic in exchange for money. As his on/off girlfriend tells him she is pregnant, he also discovers he’s the father of 533 children, 142 of whom have filed a class action lawsuit to determine the identity of their biological father, known only by the pseudonym Starbuck.”

Released in Canada last year to excellent early reviews, Starbuck has spent the past year on the festival circuit, coming away with a handful of awards to its name, and earning plenty of praise – you can read our review here.
Already set for a Us remake, with Vince Vaughn attached in the lead, the original Quebec-made comedy will be released in the UK next month, and now a great new trailer has arrived.

Already slated for a DreamWorks remake, starring Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders, Chris Pratt and Britt Robertson, a trailer for the next year’s Us release of the original movie has finally arrived.
I’ve already told you the first Starbuck director Ken Scott would also write and direct the English-language remake with shooting scheduled to start before the year’s end.
Getting back to the original we can see the crowd-pleasing comedy which explores various meanings of fatherhood in the modern age, starring Patrick Huard, Julie Le Breton, Antoine Bertrand and Dominic Philie.
Sadly, I know that the film’s language may scare off many moviegoers, but if you get the chance, see this one before a 2013-scheduled star vehicle for Vince Vaughn.
Finally, the fourth annual Milwaukee Film Festival opened Thursday night with a French-Canadian Starbuck.
Therefore, check out the first trailer to see why it’s already being remade.

Cosmopolis' Sarah Gadon, A Dangerous Method's Viggo Mortensen Monsieur Lazhar Tops Genie Awards David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method was the runner-up at this year's Canadian Genie Awards, winning five statuettes, mostly in the "technical" categories. As Sigmund Freud, Viggo Mortensen was the Best Supporting Actor winner. "I must thank first and foremost David Cronenberg for taking a chance on me. I don’t think any other director would have thought of me as Sigmund Freud," Mortensen remarked. Though touted as a possible Oscar nominee during this past awards season, Mortensen eventually failed to be shortlisted by the Hollywood Academy. In addition to Mortensen (who'll next be seen in Walter Salles' On the Road), A Dangerous Method stars Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley, while Sarah Gadon has a featured role in the psychological drama. (Gadon has a key role in Cronenberg's latest as well, Cosmopolis, which quite...

Toronto – Canadian government coin for local indie production continues to flow.
Telefilm Canada, Ottawa's film financier, on Friday said it will hand out more than $25 million in funding to French-language movies over the current year through the Canada Feature Film Fund.
And the Ontario Media Development Corp., which hands out film tax credits to Canadian and Hollywood producers shooting locally, on Friday named Pinewood Toronto Studios chairman Paul Bronfman and four other industry players to its board of directors.
The latest round of financing from Telefilm Canada has seen $7 million going into six Quebec films, including "Bashir Lazhar," the latest feature from Writer-director Philippe Falardeau ("Congorama").
Based on the stage play by Evelyne de la Cheneliere, "Bashir Lazhar" portrays an Algerian refugee to Quebec who replaces a school-teacher who hanged herself, only to be faced at school by a group of traumatized pupils and Canadian immigration hurdles.
