Chicago – The horror of a post apocalyptic world is ripe for exploration, and the new film “The Domestics” is the latest to take us down that road. Tyler Hoechlin and Kate Bosworth portray a married couple seeking her parents, as they road trip through what is left of Wisconsin after a societal collapse, and a series of murderous gangs have marked their territory. One of the gang leaders is Dean The Nailer, a foreboding presence who is portrayed with a ferocious intensity and precise eeriness by actor Lee Perkins.

Yield Entertainment has released a new poster and stills for Jeremy Benson’s Girl in Woods. The latest thriller from the director of Shutter and Live Animals, the titular girl must battle nature and her own demons for her survival and sanity in a deserted part of the Appalachian Mountains. On his latest film, Benson said:
Girl in Woods was a passion project for us. The idea of doing an origin story to what would be a slasher film interested me, and being able to wrap that inside of a psychological thriller seemed to add a level of storytelling that, as a horror fan, I felt would be welcomed. This film is the birth of an urban legend; one of a mysterious savage that is believed to be killing people in the mountains. I want audiences to be disturbed by what is happening to Grace, and at the end understand...

Author and filmmaker Gregory Lamberson has announced three new theatrical screenings for Slime City Massacre, his gooey celebration of 1980s cult films which stars Debbie Rochon and Brooke Lewis and features cameos by Roy Frumkes and Lloyd Kaufman, taking place in Tampa, Fl; Las Vegas, Nv; and his hometown of Buffalo, NY.
After a successful tour on the horror film festival circuit, Scm was released on DVD in 2011 by Media Blasters and enjoyed a limited theatrical release from iFN, Indie Film Net.
“This is what it takes to make the audience aware of a film that defies easy categorization,” says Lamberson. “Scm is horror, it’s sci-fi, it's action, and it's bizarro comedy. It took the original Slime City about eighteen years to develop its reputation as a cult film; it needed to fade away and be re-released and rediscovered. Our goal with Scm is to keep it out there...

Director/writer: Jason Horton.
Cast: Lee Perkins, Linda Bella, Curt Mega and Paul Misko.
This film should really have been called Angels and Hellhounds. With that aside, Jason Horton's fifth film as director takes place in Big Bear National Park where a film crew is shooting a low budget horror movie. Their film then turns into a real horror film when an earthquake releases hounds from hell onto the set. Now, the crew is chased down by a host of creatures that look more like walking crabs than anything else. Meanwhile, dir. Horton satirizes his real life as a low budget filmmaker through the character Jayson (Glen Plummer).

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by director Greg Lamberson.
Director/writer: Greg Lamberson.
The Slime City Massacre is a follow-up to another independent horror feature titled Slime City (1988). This earlier film has developed a cult following, with this reviewer having no knowledge of director Greg Lamberson's previous work. Now, twenty-two years later, B-movie fans can find out what happened to cultist Zachary (Richard C. Sabin), after he transformed his essence into ectoplasm! This latest film, is full of low budget make-up effects, dilapatated sets and fluorescent bathed prop devices. There is a subtle charm here - somewhere. Slime City Massacre only rarely rises above the film's inherent campiness and this reviewer found the film mostly entertaining.
The film provides a dual timeline, with events occurring on-screen in 1959, with a prostitute (Brooke Lewis) being lured into a cult and in present day, plus seven years. A...

With the upcoming DVD release of Slime City Massacre right around the corner, I thought now would be an excellent time to look back at Greg Lamberson’s 1988 flick that started it all – Slime City. Put on your raincoats, my friends, because things are about to get messy.
Jason Bene: Although Slime City is a low budget film, it is quite ambitious. Where did you find the funding to make this cult classic?
Greg Lamberson: My producing partners (Marc Makowski and Peter Clark) and I put up about one third of the $50,000 budget ourselves; we bugged friends and family for another third, and a foreign sales rep named Alexander Beck put up the remainder. It was a different time when we started, because video was huge and no-budget films sold well. But by the time we finished, the bottom had dropped out of that market. So in one sense,...

Director Jason Horton is now in post-production on his creature feature Monsters in the Woods. The first trailer for the feature was posted (here) on Fangoria earlier this week. Now, Horton has passed on a couple exclusive photos from the shooting of the film. Actress Jacqui Holland is seen left as Suzi, with what appears to be a life-threatening branch impalement. A second photo is inside, which shows characters Kris (Paul Misko) and Ashley (Linda Bella) in an embrace. Horton says that he is working on the "actual cut this week" and that: "this is definitely the best material I've had to edit with" (Zapruter).
The film is a bloody satire on independent filmmaking and the challenges that directors go through to simply make a film. Even lower budget productions encounter fierce competition and pressure from studios to follow certain formulas. These elements are in Horton's tongue-in-cheek Monsters in the Woods.

Those who are craving a new creature feature are in luck as Jason Horton's Monsters in the Woods is in its final week of production with post expected to be complete before November, which means we should be seeing the final product in film fests relatively soon. In the meantime here are two new exclusive stills to whet the proverbial ol' appetite.
Monsters in the Woods stars Glenn Plummer, Kristian Bernard, Annemarie Pazmino, and Lee Perkins.
Synopsis:
A low-budget film crew treks deep into the wilderness to shoot horror sequences for their unsellable indie-drama. They soon find themselves in the midst of their own horror show as they are hunted down by real monsters.
According to Horton, "October 6th is our last major day of shooting. We just got back from a week-long block of shooting in Big Bear. We did more set-ups (and complicated ones at that) than...

Carnies is a film from first time director and website owner Brian Corder (Shockya). His first feature film was completed early in 2009 and Carnies is now being distributed by R Squared Films, with a premiere at the Week of Terror in Cupertino, California. The film will then have various theatrical engagements before a DVD release later this year. This is independent filmmaking; viewers need to go in to the film thinking as much. The budget just is not there for a big production, so Carnies focuses on a simple stories, with the performances doing their best to sell a 1930s Great Depression era.

A film titled Dahmer vs. Gacy doesn't seem the type to be garnering awards at film festivals across the country, but that's exactly what's happening. It just won "Outstanding Cast Performance" at the Action on Film International Film Festival in Pasadena, California, and earlier this year the film also was voted "Audience Choice Award" winner at the Bare Bones Independent Film Fest in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Produced and directed by Ford Austin from a script by Chris Watson and Andrew Rausch, Dahmer Vs. Gacy stars Ford Austin and Randal Malone as Dahmer and Gacy in a slaughter-filled rampage that includes appearances by Harland Williams (Half Baked), Art Lafleur (The Replacements), Steven Adler (Guns 'N Roses), Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Jerry Maren (Wizard of Oz), Bonnie Aarons (Drag Me to Hell), Irwin Keyes (House of 1000 Corpses), Jed Rowen (Acts of Violence), Lee Perkins (Live Evil), Brooke Lewis (iMurders), and many more!

You see? This is reason #89 while I will always remain a damned city boy. No matter how you slice it there is stuff happening deep within the woods that I want absolutely no part of! From inbred mutants to well, yes, monsters, you just never know what is gonna smack you in the face (thereby tearing it off and sending it sailing through the air) next.
Such is the case with Jason Horton's latest indie effort Monsters in the Woods starring Glenn Plummer (Speed, Saw 2, The Salton Sea), Lee Perkins (Live Evil, The Red Machine, Katiebird), Kristian Bernard (Ride or Die, Sugar Valentine, Vegas Vampires) and Annemarie Pazmino (Edges of Darkness, On Bloody Sunday, Small Town Saturday Night).

Carl catches up with The Red Machine at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Now, can someone make him a 1935 buddy movie?
The introductory scene in this film undoes the rest of the work in the film in less than a minute, which is quite a feat. It all starts in a Navy building in 1935, in which four men sitting in silence around a table are scribbling notes down and looking at Japanese symbols. They are code breakers, and they all seem to know their stuff pretty well, so when one of them gets a new code to break and doesn't understand it, the whole place comes alive with panic.
The red machine in question is a new coding machine built by the Japanese to send messages home from the States, and Lt F Ellis Colburn has been tasked to find it. Naval intelligence has given him a partner to work with too but,...

One film we've been talking about for a while now is Brian Corder's Carnies starring Reggie Bannister, Doug Jones, and Lee Perkins. It's with a great deal of pleasure that we announce that finally we have a time frame on when we can see this friggin' thing! Amen!
From the Press Release:
The North America distribution rights for the new horror film ‘Carnies’ have been picked up by R-Squared Films. The movie, which was directed by Brian Corder and is presented by T.R. Productions, also now has an official DVD release date of October 12th, 2010. A limited theatrical and VOD release are also planned, and dates are set to be announced shortly.
‘Carnies’ follows a traveling sideshow in 1936, when the workers set up their oddities and illusions in another town hit by the dustbowl. However, this town is different, as a sinister force begins to kill off the carnies one-by-one.

R-Squared will release Brian Corder's Carnies on DVD, VOD, and in theatres beginning October 12th. Carnies involves a series of murders at a travelling circus where the suspects are larger than life e.g. the sword-swallower, and the strong man. Have a look at an official for the trailer before the release.
The synopsis for Carnies here:
"Sawdust in the blood used to be a Carny compliment...not a description of a crime scene.
There are a thousand sideshows playing thousands of small towns in 1936 when the Knuckles Brothers Show rolls into yet another town, ready to delight and dazzle the town folk with amazing acts and puzzling oddities. As they set up their tents they could not know that within days several of them would be dead, ripped savagely apart by a seemingly inhuman force, their souls stolen from their limp and bloody bodies.
Meet Helen, the owner of the Carny,...
