Justin Hartley, who just wrapped his acclaimed run on This Is Us as Kevin Pearson and even an occasional director of the NBC drama, stopped by the Jennifer Hudson Show and talked about both his TV family and his daughter leaving for college.
“It’s tough when they leave, you think you’re ready for it,” Hartley told Jennifer Hudson. “When they’re gone, gone, it really is a text or a phone call, and she’s 18, let’s be honest, it’s a text.” After thinking for a moment, though, Hartley cracked, “You know what does happen though is you do have more time to party.”
Hartley had his daughter Isabella with the actress Lindsey Hartley (née Korman), who he co-starred with on the soap opera Passions. They divorced in 2012 under amicable circumstances.
In an interview with Today about co-parenting after the split, Hartley praised his daughter saying, “She’s very resourceful,...

Justin Hartley is joining the time-traveling fun of NBC‘s Quantum Leap, but don’t expect his character to be anything like Kevin Pearson on This Is Us, which ended its six-season run earlier this year. The episode is set in 1981, and Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) has jumped into the body of a female bounty hunter named Eva. She and her boyfriend Jake (Hartley) are on a bounty mission to track down a character named Tammy Jean, played by Hartley’s real-life wife Sofia Pernas. However, Ben jumps into Eva’s body just as Eva and Jake’s relationship is at a crossroads — a proposal! Needless to say, Eva’s reaction isn’t what Jake expected. For more on the episode, how Hartley ended up working with wife, and what Hartley’s been up to since saying goodbye to This Is Us, TV Insider chatted with the actor. How...

Exclusive: CBS has given a pilot order to The Never Game, a drama series adaptation of Jeffery Deaver’s novel, starring and executive produced by Justin Hartley. The project, which received a pilot production commitment in September 2021, comes from director Ken Olin and 20th Television.
Because of Hartley commitment to the final season of This Is Us, The Never Game had been targeted for the off-season. As Deadline reported yesterday, the project quietly underwent a writer change in the spring, with Ben Winters replacing Michael Cooney who had been attached when the pitch was sold last fall. Winters’ script was delivered to CBS last week and was very well received by the network brass, putting the project on a fast track for a pilot pickup.

After six seasons of “This Is Us,” Justin Hartley is finally bidding goodbye to Kevin Pearson. The actor has portrayed Kevin through all the ups and downs of his life, from his on-again/off-again relationship with Sophie to his difficulties as a working actor to his journey of self-acceptance. In a new featurette, Hartley reflects on the various aspects of Kevin that he has loved playing over six seasons. Watch it above.
“You see this guy who, at first glance, has everything,” says Hartley, of Kevin’s not-so-humble beginnings, “and doesn’t really give a care about what he has, doesn’t have perspective.” The show would eventually explore his insecurities when it came to both his personal and professional lives, particularly in the love department. “Kevin struggled with being loved, and it’s the hardest thing, I think, for people to admit,” the actor explains, “because you’re admitting...

Justin Hartley still has yet to receive an Emmy nomination like his “This Is Us” co-stars have, but now he’s hoping the fifth time is the charm. The actor submitted in the Best Drama Supporting Actor category for the first three seasons before jumping up to lead for Season 4, and now, the recently released performer ballot revealed that he made the decision to return to supporting for Season 5. The question is if he can finally get that nomination now with eight slots up for grabs.
Season 5 was a major one for Hartley, who plays Kevin Pearson on the NBC drama. Kevin deals with the fallout of a major fight with his brother Randall (Sterling K. Brown), struggles with the pressures of his life as an actor and becomes engaged to the mother of his children, only to call off his wedding in the finale. While most of the “This Is Us” cast has earned Emmy love at one point or another in the show’s first four seasons, one person who has been curiously left out is Justin Hartley. The actor, who plays Kevin Pearson on the NBC drama, submitted in the drama supporting actor category for Seasons 1 through 3 before switching to lead last year for Season 4, but voters have overlooked him every time. This year he is campaigning again in lead, and while it is rare for actors to be Emmy-nominated after years of snubs, the strong material he was given in Season 5 could finally get him there.
The fifth season was a rocky one for Kevin Pearson. While dealing with the fallout of an explosive fight with brother Randall (Sterling K. Brown), he also grapples with the news that he is the father of Madison’s (Caitlin Thompson) twins. Kevin gets engaged to Madison,...

Dan Fogelman might need to close his eyes while watching his show This Is Us. NBC just released the first look at Season 5 of “This Is Us,” and the Pearsons are about to start a new beginning — and face the harsh realities of the coronavirus.
The promo includes a brief shot of Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) wearing a mask, which reminds us that this season will be tackling the coronavirus.
In August, creator Dan Fogelman confirmed plans to “attack” Covid-19 “head on” in Season 5.
As usual, the promo clip, which you can watch below, was pretty emotional.
“I think it’s time we start a new chapter,” Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) says in the clip.
We’re reminded of the fight between siblings Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Kevin (Hartley) when Kevin finds Randall standing at his door and says, “The worst thing that ever happened to me is the day they brought you home.”
That’s harsh coming from a triplet and member of “The Big Three.

Justin Hartley was given a lot of juicy material for Season 4 of “This Is Us.” From navigating a complex relationship with his uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) to his conflict with his brother, Randall, (Sterling K. Brown) and an unexpected pregnancy, we got to see many sides to Kevin Pearson in the NBC drama’s fourth season. In fact, this is a contributing factor to why Hartley will now be campaigning in Best Drama Actor for the Emmys after three years of submitting in Supporting Actor. I don’t think the Kevin character is a supporting actor,” Hartley says in an exclusive new interview with Gold Derby. “I think he’s one of the lead actors on a show that is a true ensemble. That’s what I’ve always thought and then particularly this last season, he did a lot. There was a lot of stuff going on with Kevin...

Mandy Moore and her This Is Us co-stars have some serious moves. The 35-year-old actress discussed their recent TikTok video on Tuesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. For those who didn't see the viral clip, Moore and her castmates did the "Smeeze" dance to Trill Ryan's "She Gon Go." The Rebecca Pearson star said she's a "terrible dancer" and admitted she "strategically hid" herself behind Sterling K. Brown and Jon Huertas during the number. Chrissy Metz, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan and Justin Hartley also participated in the routine. Although, the Kevin Pearson celeb seemed to struggle with some of the steps. "Justin makes me feel...

To say Kevin Pearson has a complicated love life on This Is Us would be an understatement. The character has been portrayed as a ladies' man throughout the past four seasons, but he's always had a soft spot for his childhood sweetheart Sophie. Though the two don't exactly have the best track record - they got married and divorced very young and tried (and failed) to give their love another shot later in life - we still have hope they'll end up together by the end of the series.
In the recent episode, "A Hell of a Week: Part Two," we learn even more about Kevin and Sophie's backstory when he travels home for her mother's funeral. On the night that Jack died, Kevin and Sophie went to the movies to see Good Will Hunting. However, when the projector at the theater malfunctioned at the end of the movie, they...

Fans of NBC's This Is Us are not happy.
This Is Us Season 4 Episode 12 -- the second part of "The Big Three" trilogy was all about Kevin Pearson on Tuesday.
If you watch This Is Us online, you know This Is Us Season 4 Episode 11 concluded with Kevin sleeping with a woman, whose identity was left open to interpretation.
However, Tuesday's episode pulled back to reveal the person he was in bed with was none other than Kate's best friend, Madison.
While some will think that it's a big twist in the tale, series creator Dan Fogelman previously nixed any possibility of a Madison-Kevin pairing.
This Is Us Season 2 Episode 18 seemed to suggest there could be something brewing between the characters, but Fogelman shot down the popular theory.
He said that Caitlin Thompson, the actress who plays Madison is his wife in real life.

If you had told us three years ago that someday our favorite episode of This Is Us, maybe ever, would be all about Kevin Pearson, we would have been pretty dang skeptical. Now, thanks to some serious character development and more growth than maybe anyone else, it makes sense that Kevin got an episode like the one he was at the center of tonight. Kate and Randall, while they still have their struggles and their growing to do, have settled down into marriages and families. Kevin only recently realized he wants that too, and tonight's episode was a pretty major step in his journey to find his great love story and achieve his goals of finding someone before he's 40 (which we know he does). It was...

Anyone braving the standstill of Los Angeles rush-hour traffic last night to the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre would have found that they arrived to a tranquil and emotional oasis as Fox and NBC celebrated the music of This Is Us with performances by Mandy Moore and composer Siddhartha Khosla.
Moore took the mic before the 1,200 packed venue to sing “Invisible Ink,” a track her character Rebecca auditions with at an L.A. recording studio in the November 13 episode “Sometimes.”
Moore was joined onstage by Taylor Goldsmith, her husband, who co-wrote “Invisible Ink” with Khosla. In the episode, Moore sings “Invisible Ink” a capella to boyfriend Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) in the car. She has just left her audition, a bit down in the dumps, when Jack asks to hear the song. As she sings, Jack melts into a puddle of tears, remembering his days in the Vietnam War.
When Ventimiglia shot that scene,...

“This Is Us” has racked up 11 Primetime Emmy Award acting nominations for seven of its cast members. With both Sterling K. Brown and Chrissy Metz having reaped nominations, it may finally be time for Justin Hartley, who plays Kevin Pearson, to complete the Big Three’s Emmy sweep this year after he was criminally snubbed for his dynamite turn in the second season.
Last year, Hartley seemed to have all boxes checked off the snatch an Emmy bid for Best Drama Supporting Actor: the second season of “This Is Us” put Kevin through the wringer, as he mourned the death of his father in both past and present, triggering his descent into drug and alcohol addiction. The eighth episode, “Number One,” focusing almost entirely on his character, was tailor-made for Hartley’s potential Emmy submission: He delivers two powerful, emotionally draining speeches, is drowned in self-hate and regret, and is...

“I think that’s great,” Justin Hartley told Soap Opera Digest during a recent interview when asked about the possibility of his daytime alma mater “The Young and the Restless” recasting his role as Adam Newman, a devious businessman with serious daddy issues. “They should. Adam is a great character,” the actor added. Of course, Hartley himself has a rather full plate these days as one of the stars of NBC’s “This is Us,” so if Adam were to return to Genoa City, it might need to be with a new face.
Hartley actually got his start in daytime. He joined the cast of NBC’s “Passions” in 2002 as Fox Crane and stayed with the show until 2006, after which the role was taken over by Mark Cameron Wystrach for another year and a half before the character was shot to death by his girlfriend’s niece — don’t you hate it when that happens?...

Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) finally got to the answers he was looking for about his uncle (Griffin Dunne), but it wasn't a happy family reunion on This Is Us. There was a reason Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) kept his brother's existence a secret from his family, and when he learned the truth and found his uncle, it wasn't the ending he expected. Kevin didn't swoop in and save Nicky, nor did he find a replacement father figure. It was too much for Kevin to handle: He relapsed at the end of "Songbird Road: Part One." "I mean, when you're telling the story of addiction, it's so rare that it's like a one and done…you go to a rehab program, and then you don't relapse,...

On the open road, that's where you'll find all the answers you'll ever need.
The Pearson kids took a road trip This Is Us Fanatics never knew they needed in order to get answers about their uncle on This Is Us Season 3 Episode 11. However, they didn't just get answers about Jack and Nicky, they got answers about themselves too.
While the episode was heavy on the tears and sadness, there were a few hidden gems throughout "Songbird Road: Part One" mostly due to the Pearson siblings' bonding moments in the car.
We don't get to see the Big Three together nearly as much as we should. It's simple moments like Kevin and Kate teasing Randall about his road trip snacks that make This Is Us Fanatics fall in love with the Pearson clan all over again.
Please, don't let this be the last road trip for the Pearsons, Dan Fogelman,...

Justin Hartley had a wealth of emotional material for the second season of “This Is Us” on NBC. He plays Kevin Pearson, one of the three adult children of the characters played by Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia on the popular family drama. The entire cast, which also includes Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown and nominee Chrissy Metz, won at the Screen Actors Guild Awards this past January as the best TV drama ensemble.

Though NBC’s This is Us spent two years leading up to what caused the imminent death of Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia), it was how Pearson’s death truly affected the characters that was the focal point of the recently-wrapped second season. Whether battling alcoholism, a strained relationship with his family or an identity crisis, Hartley’s Kevin journeyed through a dark tunnel throughout the second season only to find a dim light upon the show’s ...
