- Started as a journalist and publicist, prior to his arrival in Hollywood as a contract screenwriter of tough crime dramas and minor films noir for RKO (1944-1947) and Columbia (1954-1957).
- By his own estimation, he worked on at least fifteen film scripts between "On The Beach" in 1959 and "Kotch" in 1971, but not one of them was filmed.
