Faith No More last played a concert in August 2016, and it appears they won’t be returning to the stage anytime soon. Drummer Mike Bordin says that singer Mike Patton has “gone from being unable to do the shows to clearly being unwilling to do shows with us.”
Patton was supposed to return to the stage with Faith No More in 2021, but canceled all scheduled concerts at that time due to mental health struggles. He has since returned to performing live with his band Mr. Bungle, but Faith No More have yet to reschedule any shows.
In 2022, Patton told The Guardian that the pandemic took a toll on him, and that he turned to alcohol during those dark times. “The idea of doing more Faith No More shows — it was stressful. It affected me mentally. I don’t know why, but the drinking just … happened.” He added, “The band is rock solid,...

Faith No More haven’t played a proper show in nine years, and it appears that fans will have to wait a while longer to see — or hear — from Mike Patton and company again.
While the band isn’t quite no more just yet, keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Roddy Bottum offered up an update on the group in a new Substack post, writing that the band is on a “semi permanent hiatus.”
Bottum opened the Substack post by discussing his current musical endeavors, which don’t appear to involve Faith No More for the foreseeable future.
“I live in NYC and I work with my boyfriend in a band called Man On Man and two awesome friends in a band called Crickets and also sometimes the horror art project gnarl core Nastie Band,” wrote Bottum. “Fnm is kind of on semi permanent hiatus and Imperial Teen is making a record slowly but definitely.

Theo Lengyel, a member of Mr. Bungle from 1985 through 1996, has been found guilty of first-degree murder after a six-week trial in Santa Cruz Superior Court surrounding the death of his girlfriend Alice Herrmann. He is expected to get life in prison when he is sentenced on November 7th.
Lengyel was a founding member of Mr. Bungle, playing saxophone and keyboards on the band 1980s demos as well as their first two proper studio albums, 1991’s self-titled effort and 1995’s Disco Volante.
He was arrested at the beginning of this year in connection with Herrmann’s murder after previously being named a “person of interest” in her disappearance.
When the trial began in early September, Lengyel’s counsel actually admitted that Lengyel killed Herrmann, instead focusing on achieving a lesser conviction than first-degree murder. “The evidence will find that Lengyel killed her but also that he loved her,” stated defense attorney...

As an Icelandic artist living in New York after 9/11, Björk felt out of place amid the feverish patriotism and xenophobia that proliferated in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the United States. While the Iraq War—and her neighbors—raged, the singer tended to her newborn daughter, Ísadóra, rekindling her fascination with the body and its generative powers.
Björk’s 2001 album Vespertine was built around the quietness and intimacy of domestic life, made tactile by hyper-specific, sensual lyricism. Inspired by her relationship with Matthew Barney, the album is bounded in scope by the four walls of the home, and the process of creating it was similarly insular, with Björk spending hours assembling microbeats on her laptop.
Committed to an emphatically different production approach for her next album, Medúlla, Björk eschewed Vespertine’s electronic beats and custom-made music boxes in favor of one instrument: the human voice. By embracing a cappella music,...

Mr. Bungle welcomed a special guest for a cover of Van Halen’s “Loss of Control” at the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium on Saturday (June 22nd). None other than Wolfgang Van Halen joined Mike Patton and company for a rousing version of the tune off 1980’s Women and Children First.
“Loss of Control” has made its way into Mr. Bungle’s setlist several times over the past few years. Shortly after the passing of Eddie Van Halen, Patton told Heavy Consequence that he was a big fan of Van Halen, and that Women and Children First had a profound impact on his musical sensibilities.

Ipecac Recordings, the indie label co-founded by Greg Werckman and Mike Patton, is celebrating its 25th anniversary by reissuing three Fantômas albums on vinyl.
Werckman and Patton founded Ipecac in 1999 to release the self-titled debut by Fantômas — the experimental rock supergroup featuring Patton alongside Buzz Osborne, Dave Lombardo, and Trevor Dunn. The idea was to retain all creative control following Patton’s major label experiences with Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, and Ipecac has remained a vital and active underground label since its formation.
Expanding out from Fantômas, Ipecac has since released albums by the likes The Melvins, Mr. Bungle, Isis, Faith No More, Eagles of Death Metal, Dälek (whose debut Negro Necro Nekros is also being reissued for the 25th anniversary), and many more.
“A label does not last 25 years without consumer support,” said Werckman via a press release. “We are not the biggest or hippest record label,...

Former Mr. Bungle member Theo Lengyel has been arrested in connection with the homicide of his girlfriend Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, a resident of Capitola, California.
Lengyel was taken into custody by the Capitola Police Department on Tuesday (January 2nd) after previously being named a “person of interest” in the investigation.
Relatives of the victim reported her missing on December 12th after a week-long lapse in contact. A missing-person investigation was launched, and her vehicle was then found in front of Lengyel’s home.
According to investigators, Lengyel did not cooperate with police and was subsequently named a suspect when “it became clear that foul play was involved,” per a press release from the Capitola Police Department. Former Mr. Bungle member Theo Lengyel is currently a “person of interest” in the disappearance of his girlfriend Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann. According to the El Cerrito Police Department in California, Lengyel “has not cooperated with the police investigation.”
Lengyel was a member of Mr. Bungle from 1985 through 1996, playing on their early 1986 demo The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny, as well as their studio albums Mr. Bungle (1991) and Disco Volante (1995), among other releases. The multi-instrumentalist primarily played saxophone for the band, as well as clarinet and keyboards.

As the singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour, as well as solo artist, Corey Taylor has rubbed shoulders with many of his own personal heroes in the business. But his encounters with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and late Motörhead legend Lemmy Kilmister are among the most memorable.
In a new interview with Classic Rock magazine, the Slipknot frontman fanboy’d out on some of the famous rockstars he’s met over the years, most of which entail humorous — and in Lemmy’s case, downright raunchy — anecdotes.
Taylor had only met the Motörhead mastermind in passing prior to running into him in the kitchenette at the German headquarters of guitar company Gibson. As Taylor recounted, while the two were “smoking out of the window like high-schoolers, just being dicks,” Lemmy proceeded to tell what Taylor claims to be “one of the filthiest jokes” he’s ever heard in his life.

Faith No More frontman Mike Patton lent a recognizably human quality to I Am Legend's Darkseekers with his unique growl, humanizing the monsters. The Darkseekers' portrayal hinted at their humanity, with their emotions easily understood through their angry, panicked, and upset expressions. Patton's performance injected personality into what could have been incomprehensible squawks and screams, making him the perfect choice for I Am Legend's misunderstood villains.
While I Am Legend’s villainous Darkseekers didn’t have much in the way of comprehensible dialogue, the monster movie’s villains were voiced by a surprisingly iconic musician. Released in 2007, I Am Legend is a post-apocalyptic action-thriller that follows Will Smith’s Dr. Robert Neville around the abandoned streets of New York City after a plague has wiped out much of humanity. Some humans who survived the plague became Darkseekers, vampiric monsters that dwelled in the dark and attacked at night.

A surprise Fantômas reunion took place Wednesday night (May 24th) in Oakland, California, during the final show of Mr. Bungle’s “Geek Show” tour with Melvins.
The reunion wasn’t too far out of the realm of possibility considering three of the band’s four members — Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn, and Dave Lombardo — are currently in Mr. Bungle. Once Buzz Osborne of Melvins took the stage, the supergroup’s lineup was complete, along with the bonus additions of Bungle guitarists Trey Spruance and Scott Ian.
Osborne sat in with Mr. Bungle for a rendition of The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo track “Sudden Death” before the group launched into Fantômas’ cover of Henri Mancini‘s “Experiment in Terror” (featured on the band’s 2001 album The Director’s Cut). Fan footage captured the performance, which went off without a hitch as the band nailed the intricate loud-soft dynamics.

After teasing a snippet of their debut single “Harvest” last week, Empire State Bastard have now unleashed the full track. The outfit features singer Simon Neil and touring guitarist Mike Vennart of the Scottish band Biffy Clyro, along with legendary thrash-metal drummer Dave Lombardo.
“Harvest” is a wonderfully chaotic track that ranges from extreme grindcore screams to Pixies-inspired spoken-word verses. It’s a helluva debut single, hopefully giving us a taste of what’s to come on a potential full-length album, with the band having inked a deal with Roadrunner Records.

Legendary thrash drummer Dave Lombardo has announced his debut album, Rites of Percussion, arriving May 5th via Ipecac Recordings. The lead single “Journey of the Host” can be streamed below.
The idea for a Lombardo solo album has origins as far back as 1998, when it was suggested by the drummer’s current Mr. Bungle bandmate Mike Patton.
“He introduced me to Tito Puente’s Top Percussion album,” Lombardo said via a press release. “I was already familiar with Tito and was a bit shocked that Patton was so musically diverse, and that he surrounded himself with musicians of the same mindset. That inspired me. I have had ideas that I’ve recorded on cassette over the years, but Patton kept insisting that I had to do a ‘drum album.’ So, the idea behind the album is years in the making. I just had to find the right time—for me—to do it.

Even in a fast-moving film like Jordan Peele’s “Nope,” there are some easter eggs you just can’t ignore — and one that has caught more than a few viewers’ eyes is the bizarre preponderance of characters wearing T-shirts featuring alt-rock bands from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.
It starts with the character Angel (Brandon Perea) wearing a Wipers T-shirt — the legendary Portland band beloved by Kurt Cobain. Then you see one with a Mr. Bungle logo — the oddball California group Faith No More singer Mike Patton was originally in, and which he pursued as a parallel career. And by the time you see Emerald (Keke Palmer) prominently wearing a Jesus Lizard T-shirt (above) and O.J. (Daniel Kaluuya) wearing a Rage Against the Machine one — and then, for a brief moment, Butthole Surfers and Earth tees flash by — it’s like, “Ok, these aren’t your garden-variety Nirvana tees.

King Garbage turn trucking into a moody, melodramatic piano rocker on “Monster Truck,” a track from their upcoming album, Heavy Metal Greasy Love.
“My baby drives a monster truck,” the duo sings together over pounding piano chords. “Too much is never enough/No fast cars or diamond rings, only heavy-metal, greasy things.” Over the course of five minutes, the song becomes a long-haul journey of its own with soulful horns, some funky Wurlitzer, postmodern echoes, and a noise-rock freakout flying by faster than white lines in the middle of blacktop.

Mr. Bungle is back with their first album in over two decades, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo. For their latest music video, they turned to acclaimed director Derek Cianfrance for the band's epic 8-minute song "Sudden Death." One day in the late Nineties, Dave Lombardo, the metal drumming powerhouse best known for bringing a tornado-like fury to Slayer’s early thrash masterpieces, was driving from San Francisco to his home in Los Angeles. On the way, he threw on a recording of an unusual gig he’d just taken part in: a performance of a so-called game piece by John Zorn, in which the category-defying composer assembled a group of improvisers and staged a spontaneous sonic happening according to a series of rules, cards, and gestures.

Dead Cross have shared their cover of Black Flag’s “Rise Above,” which the hardcore supergroup recorded in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
The band’s rendition of the Damaged classic was accompanied by footage of the recent protests in Los Angeles — as well as instances of police brutality — filmed by Dead Cross drummer Dave Lombardo.
Dead Cross’ “Rise Above” cover also opens with the viral recording of a Los Angeles resident telling the L.A. police chief during a public Zoom meeting: “Suck my dick and choke on it.

As the world fights a pandemic, we’ve been reaching out to some of our favorite artists to get their takes on these unprecedented times. Here’s what Faith No More and Mr. Bungle singer Mike Patton — who just released Necroscape, an enveloping and unsettling avant-rock odyssey by tētēma, his collaborative venture with Australian composer Anthony Pateras — had to say in response to a few quarantine questions via email.

Mr. Bungle is back in the recording studio for the first time since 1999's California album. There have been some personnel changes for this incarnation of the band in order to fit into what they're currently doing. Like the reunion tour, they're tackling the band's first-ever demo, 1986's The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny, with ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and Anthrax's Scott Ian on second guitar. Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn, and Trey Spruance are the only original members included on this upcoming recording.
The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny is a full on thrash metal assault, which is quite different for what Mr. Bungle is traditionally known for. The demo was never officially released, though it has been bootlegged numerous times over the years with excruciatingly terrible quality. However hardcore fans have loved it for over 30 years and new fans keep discovering it. As for the band, they're...

Netflix has dropped the trailer for Rattlesnake. The horror thriller is the latest from 1922 director Zak Hilditch. The story focuses on a single mother accepting the help of a mysterious woman after her daughter is bitten by a rattlesnake. When the bite is magically fixed, she finds herself making an unthinkable deal to repay her debt.
The trailer offers some twists and turns in this tale, which looks very much in the style of Hilditch's last effort with the streaming platform. Though notably without the killer Mike Patton score.
Rattlesnake tells the tale of Katrina (Carmen Ejogo), who is a single mother driving cross country to start a new life with her young daughter Clara (Apollonia Pratt) when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. As Katrina changes the tire, Clara wanders off the desert road and is bitten by a venomous rattlesnake. Desperate to save her daughter's life,...

Some fans are rightfully worried that Bill & Ted Face the Music won't be able to live up to the legacy of the franchise. Long gestating comedy sequels haven't fared well over the course of the past decade. Just look at Zoolander 2, Dumb and Dumber To and Anchorman 2, which all arrived well past their sell-by date. None did much for the fans, and were pretty disappointing. Have the gang behind Bill & Ted 3 found a way to subvert that? We're not sure judging from the first storyboard, but we definitely have high hopes.

As the years go by, Dub Trio’s name feels less and less apt. While the group’s early work orbited around reggae, more recent releases have focused on crushing, riff-centric metal. “World of Inconvenience,” the lead single from the group’s new LP, The Shape of Dub to Come, draws on both styles to create a crafty, atmospheric hybrid.
Often instrumental, the group gets a vocal assist here from Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne, whose inimitable bellow perfectly complements the track’s dark, dirge-like feel. Much as the group adds spacey,...

Jimmy Buffett capped off his rendition of the National Anthem before Sunday’s Nfc Championship game in New Orleans with an emphatic mic drop.
Buffett, a lifelong Saints fan, delivered a straightforward, near-recited rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” but it was the “Margaritaville” singer’s actions after “And the home of the brave” that made him go viral: With microphone still in hand, Buffett lifted his right arm and dropped the mic near the 50-yard line.

Mike Patton was an unexpected choice to deliver the National Anthem prior to Saturday’s NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Dallas Cowboys. However, the Faith No More singer ultimately pulled out of the high-profile performance hours before kickoff.
“Sorry, football folks, I woke up feeling horrible,” Patton wrote on Facebook (via Blabbermouth) prior to the Nfc divisional playoff game at the Los Angeles Coliseum. “No anthem today for me!” A violinist performed a solo rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in Patton’s absence.

One of the wilder musical episodes this writer has heard in 2018 gets going a little more than three minutes into “Bovicidal,” the opening track on a new album by guitarist Brandon Seabrook’s eponymous trio. As double-bassist Henry Fraser sets up a steady pulse, the leader solos over top, moving from tight, twitchy, spasm-like phrases to sharp, stabbing chords, while cellist Daniel Levin adds his rough, sawing bow work. Like much of this record, aptly titled Convulsionaries, the passage sounds like some sort of rogue hybrid of chamber music and jazz,...

Nearly a year after the release of Stephen King's 1922 on Netflix, the Mike Patton score is finally ready to be released this summer. Patton, best known for his work in bands like Faith No More, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, and Dead Cross, reveals that he was able to flesh out the score for 1922 and add pieces that were not in the movie in the last several months. The singer and arranger also noted that the music business runs at a slower speed than the movie business, and hinted that he was a bit rushed to complete the initial score for 1922.
In a new interview with the Murmur podcast, Mike Patton calls his expanded score of Stephen King's 1922 "a musical statement," instead of just background sounds and moods. The interview also provides a preview of the song Sweetheart Bandits 2: We All Get Caught, which is the final track on the score.

Hardcore super group Dead Cross, featuring ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton, have just released a new video for their song "Church of the Motherf---ers" and it's the best horror short of the year. This is the band's second video off of their debut album and it is an intense look at religion with some harsh undertones of what has been happening in the entertainment industry's sexual misconduct scandals. When a band sounds as brutal as Dead Cross, it's hard to find imagery that heightens that feeling instead of parodying it, and director Michael Panduro has done a perfect job of capturing the pure essence of this type of music.
The Fight Club-themed video for "Church of the Motherf--ers" opens with a quote from German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who states, "The influence of a man has never yet grown great without his blind pupils.

Sad news for longtime Faith No More fans. Former singer Chuck Mosley, who had reunited with the band in recent years, has passed away. No firm cause of death is being discussed. Though family members did have an interesting thing to say about his untimely demise. They blame his recent passing on addiction. It isn't known if the singer and songwriter succumbed to a drug overdose or alcohol related issues at this time.
Chuck Mosley had spent the past several years living as a sober person. And though he had been fired from Faith No More in the late 80s, the singer did get back together with the iconic band over the past couple of years, after Fnm launched their first new album in over two decades with Sol Invictus, back in 2015.

It's (no pun intended) official, Stephen King's horror classic Pet Sematary is getting the remake treatment and Paramount has announced that Starry Eyes directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer will helm the new adaptation. The news comes after it was announced that 2017 has been the biggest year for the horror genre in box office history. The year started off strong with Jordan Peele's Get Out and then the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's It from director Andres Muschietti came out and broke horror records left and right. Paramount is hoping in to cash in on the new horror renaissance with their own remake of Pet Sematary.
The original 1989 classic Pet Sematary was based on the Stephen King novel, which follows the tribulations of a family who moves into a new home next to a cemetery with evil powers that allow the creatures buried in it to come back from the dead.

Netflix has just released the first trailer for their adaptation of Stephen King's novella, 1922, which is set to debut next month. Not only does the trailer look creepy, but it also sounds unsettling, thanks to Mike Patton's fantastic soundtrack that recalls a twisted take on a Hitchcock score. In a recent interview to promote the incredibly successful It, King alerted fans that this adaptation was really special and that it really "creeped" him out when he saw the rough cut. The legendary horror author also mentioned that he couldn't stop thinking about it, which is a good indicator since he basically said the same thing about the big screen adaptation if It.
The first trailer for 1922 comes to us courtesy of the official Netflix YouTube account and it is an uncomfortable two and a half minutes to say the least. Adding to the uneasiness is the original score...

Netflix's 1922 is an adaptation of Stephen King's short novella of the same name from the Full Dark, No Stars collection and the legendary author is claiming that the rough cut that he saw of the movie is "super creepy" and that it "won't leave his mind." Netflix quietly announced that the adaptation of 1922 was underway in November of last year and that the project would be helmed by Zak Hilditch (These Final Hours) and star Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist) and Molly Parker (The Road) with Dylan Schmid, Kaitlyn Bernard, Brian D'Arcy James, and Neal McDonough. The project is apparently near completion and even in the rough-cut stage, it has Stephen King's seal of approval.

Musical chameleon Mike Patton has announced that he's working on a score for the Netflix adaptation of the Stephen King novella 1922. In November of last year, it was announced that Netflix would be making a movie based on King's short story. Zak Hilditch will direct the movie based off of the screenplay that he wrote. The story is told through the narration of the main character who confesses to murdering his wife and later believes that she is haunting him. Not much else has been revealed about the movie, but we have learned that Mike Patton has already composed the score.

We'd like to say it's a great time to be a Ghostbusters fan, but a lot of you would disagree. Even though those who loved the 1984 original have done nothing but dump hate on this new iteration of the classic franchise, that hasn't stopped Sony from moving forward with their marketing and merchandise campaign. Though believe it or not, some consumers have complained about a lack of toys in stores, with the studio not fulfilling the demand. That won't happen with the soundtrack, as it be readily available when it drops next month. Today, we finally have a clear picture of what exactly will be included.
Earlier today, we saw all four of the new Ghostbusters grace the cover of EW's latest issue. Now, we also get a new international poster that once again includes Chris Hemsworth as Kevin. This time, though, we also get to see Slimer making his triumphant big screen return.

Rock has long been a breeding ground for weirdos. From the crazy prog concept albums of the 70s, to the aggressive post-punk groups of the 80s, to the alt-rock oddballs of the 90s, rock music has never shied away from the surreal or the strange. Perhaps its the genre’s outsider status that has allowed such unusual acts to prosper. Or maybe it just attracts nutters.
There are a few bands, however, that go that little bit further than most into the realms of the insane. They take the genre beyond “a bit bizarre” and into seriously mind-boggling territory. These are bands that simultaneously make audiences utterly confused and completely enthralled. They inspire humour, intrigue and a general response that amounts to “Wtf?!”

Film scores are pretty ephemeral to a large chunk of the movie-going populace, where music isn’t noticeable unless a triumphant fanfare or sweeping ballad draws enough attention to itself. So if scoring is already the film industry’s unappreciated middle child, how silly is a list about ones that haven’t been released yet? Very silly. Oftentimes, composers don’t even sign with a project until well into production, so speculating on the best film music of 2015, like any year, forces one to work with what’s known. Sound on Sight will offer more in-depth analysis on the most buzzed about music as the year rolls on but for now, here are the ten movie scores I’m most excited to hear in 2015.
10. The Walk — Alan Silvestri
Alan Silvestri’s last great score was for a TV show, and his last great film score was for one of the more forgettable Marvel entries.
