Chicago – Say the name Whit Stillman in certain cinema circles, and a rush of admiration soon follows. The director made a name for himself with his debut film “Metropolitan’ (1990), and followed with the same emotional pallette in “Barcelona” (1994). He is back with an adaptation of a Jane Austin novel, entitled “Love & Friendship.”
The title is taken from one of Jane Austin’s short stories, but the narrative is from her novel “Lady Susan,” published 60 years after her death. It involves the title character (portrayed in the film by Kate Beckinsale), a widow without fortune, who is looking to marry again to wealth, and wishes the same for her daughter. She visits the estate of her sister-in-law and brother-in-law – Charles and Catherine Vernon – in the hopes of making a match for her lovely child Frederica, or at least herself.

11/22/63 is proof that not every literary adaptation starring James Franco is based on the works of John Steinbeck or William Faulkner. This upcoming miniseries hails from legendary horror author Stephen King (whose works outside of the scary realm are equally as prolific as those within it) and focuses on a small-town school teacher who realizes he is able to travel through time via a door in a local diner. Franco previously snagged the lead role as the teacher Jake Epping, who takes it upon himself to prevent the assassination of JFK, and the show has now secured a director and supporting cast.
Academy Award winner Kevin McDonald (The Last King Of Scotland) has signed on to direct and executive produce the first two episodes of the nine-hour event series. He will work from a script penned by Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood), who is expected to seriously curtail King...

Hulu doesn't quite have the original content success Netflix and Amazon has celebrated, but they are trying their hardest to change that. As they accelerate into motion their mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's JFK assassination novel "11/22/63", they roped in Chris Cooper, Lucy Fry, George MacKay, Leon Rippy and Cherry Jones to star alongside James Franco, Sarah Gadon and Daniel Webber for its upcoming nine-episodes. Also, Kevin Macdonald (Black Sea) is on board to direct the first two episodes. Franco was already confirmed to lead as Jake Epping, a modern-day high school English teacher who travels back in time to prevent the president's assassination. Meanwhile, Gadon, just as of yesterday, signed on as the female lead Sadie Dunhill, a librarian in the '60s who falls for Franco's character. Webber will portray Lee Harvey Oswald, the man credited with the assassination of JFK. Cooper will play diner owner and Franco's mentor,...

On Nov. 22, America and the world mark the 50th anniversary of one of the most momentous events of the 20th century, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
As it did last year with "Killing Lincoln," National Geographic Channel has turned to another best-seller by Fox News' Bill O'Reilly and historian Martin Dugard to dramatize the occasion.
Premiering Sunday, Nov. 10, the docudrama version of "Killing Kennedy" follows the twin trajectories of JFK and Lee Harvey Oswald until they meet on that fateful day in Dallas' Dealey Plaza.
Directed by Nelson McCormick from a script by Kelly Masterson, "Killing Kennedy" stars Rob Lowe as JFK, Ginnifer Goodwin as first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald, Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald, Jack Noseworthy as Bobby Kennedy, Casey Siemaszko as Jack Ruby, Francis Guinan as Lyndon B. National Geographic Channel threw its West Coast premiere of “Killing Kennedy” at the Saban Theater Monday night, six days before the TV debut and a few weeks before the 50th anniversary of the infamous assassination. The TV movie, which stars Rob Lowe as JFK, Ginnifer Goodwin as Jacqueline Kennedy, Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald and Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald, was shot in just 18 days on an independent film budget, but feels much larger. Perhaps that’s the subject matter. Monday evening’s celebration mimicked a campaign party, down to the balloons and “Kennedy/Johnson” buttons and bumper stickers.

Do you remember how adorable Michelle Trachtenberg was when she made her first appearance on Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Even years later, when she was doing more serious work on Gossip Girl, she still had that charming adorability. It was like she was incapable of ever truly growing up and becoming an adult. It didn’t help that she seemed to always be playing characters 10 years younger than she is, so perhaps all she needs is to play someone closer to her age. It seemed like an odd choice to cast her in the Nat Geo film Killing Kennedy. Again, that image I’ve had of her, as an eternal teenager, made it hard for me to see her in a film about President Kennedy’s assassination. It turns out I’m just a big fool.
At the first glimpse of Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald, I didn’t realize who I was looking at.

Killing Kennedy is liable to become a massive hit for the National Geographic Channel, and Once Upon a Time‘s Ginnifer Goodwin isn’t going to hurt things at all.
