BioShock creator Ken Levine has shown off some new gameplay details for his upcoming Judas to select outlets, and the old BioShock DNA is unmistakeable.
There’s an awful lot of chat about “narrative Lego” in the various news posts swirling around about Judas, the next game from BioShock designer Ken Levine. It’s a phrase Levine first brought up about a decade ago when he first started talking publicly about his first project since 2013’s BioShock Infinite, and is shorthand for the way Judas uses discrete blocks of plot to construct a unique story for each player.
Over the past few weeks or so, Levine’s new studio, Ghost Story Games, has invited a couple of journalists from big, posh outlets to sample Judas first-hand. Both IGN's Ryan McCaffrey and The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley have made videos in which they interview Ken Levine and play through his ambitious-sounding action-adventure.

There are a lot of potentially problematic elements in "Game of Thrones" and its spin-off series, "House of the Dragon," but perhaps the ickiest of them all is the rampant incest. The Targaryen dynasty is rife with cosanguinity, which is a fancy word for inbreeding, and the practice is clearly still in fashion in "House of the Dragon," as King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Queen Aemma Arryn (Sian Brooke) are first cousins. They share a set of Targaryen grandparents, Jaehaerys I and his sister-wife Alysanne, so they both have some of that lovely double-dragon bloodline going on. Fans of the George R.R. Martin novel that "House of the Dragon" is based on know that the married cousins are not the last incestuous relationship in the story, because Targaryens are really all about keeping it in the family.

Perhaps you’d heard but a fresh season of a little show called Stranger Things just arrived on Netflix’s servers. There are always plenty of reasons to get excited about new episodes of Stranger Things, and the seven new episodes presented in season 4 volume 1 are no different.
Operating under an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mantra, Stranger Things season 4 is absolutely packed with ’80s-set science fiction, horror, and adventure. Once again, our heroic kids from Hawkins must confront a mystery from the Upside Down. In this case, who is this demonic wizard Vecna and why is he so hopelessly addicted to breaking human bodies?
In addition to all of the usual fun plotting though, a new season of Stranger Things means a new batch of old music. Though creators The Duffer Brothers were born in 1984 and probably don’t remember a hell of a lot of the 1980s,...

In the early spring of 1961, shortly following the completion of his work on A.I.P.’s Master of the World - and following a series of lectures regarding “The Enjoyment of Great Art” – Renaissance man Vincent Price was to jet off mid-April for two acting assignments in Rome, Italy. The two productions he had signed onto for producer-writer Ottavio Poggi were Gordon, il Pirata Nero and Nefertiti, Regina Del Nile. The former film – arguably the better of the two - was belatedly released in the U.S. in June 1963 under the title Rage of the Buccaneers. The film was distributed regionally in the U.S. with neither fanfare nor critical attention.
Rage of the Buccaneers would first appear on the drive-in circuit as the odd undercard to such films as Broccoli and Saltzman’s Bob Hope/Anita Ekberg comedy Call Me Bwana.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the second season of “The Umbrella Academy,” streaming now on Netflix.
The second season of “The Umbrella Academy” snaps its characters back in time to the 1960s — and yes, that includes Kate Walsh as the Handler, despite being shot and presumed dead in the first season of the Netflix adaptation of Gerard Way’s graphic novels. To put together the Handler’s colorful and often grand looks for the season, costume designer Christopher Hargadon relied on magazines and other photo references from the 1950s and ’60s, but he also found collaborating with Walsh herself was key.
Walsh says the role of the Handler was originally written for a man, so when she was cast instead, creator and showrunner Steve Blackman told her and Hargadon that they could “do whatever you want to do with hair, makeup and costume.”

To say that Beyoncé's 2018 Coachella performance was transformative would be an understatement. The artist ditched any concept of convention and turned the stage into the biggest celebration of blackness that the deserts of California have seen in ages. Not only was Beyoncé the first black woman to headline the festival, but she also outsold any of your faves by putting on an elaborate tribute to HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities) and black Greek life, complete with her own drumline (known as the Buzzzz), about 100 dancers, and a stage fit for Nefertiti herself. And, of course, everyone was dripping in custom Balmain costumes, because Beyoncé doesn't do anything without looking damn good.
But the show didn't just come together with wishes and some superglue. To give her fans a true look at the undertaking that was Beychella, Beyoncé released a concert film, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, on Netflix...

Dressed to KillMore from MoMA's spectacular retrospective (see part 1 of our guide here), skimming the cream from the top of the William Fox archives, a major studio whose films, apart from a few known classics by Frank Borzage, John Ford, et cetera, have been sunk in obscurity for too long. Fox opened his doors to experimental geniuses like F.W. Murnau and Erik Charell, and encouraged major talents like Ford, Howard Hawks, Raoul Walsh and Borzage to spread their wings. In Borzage’s masterpiece 7th Heaven, how many viewers have any problem with the glaring fact that the garret where Janet Gaynor lives is apparently reached by two completely different stairwells, one that’s angular, for the crane shot, and one that’s spiral for the overhead angle?UpstreamThe idea is consistent with the expressionist approach at Fox. Edgar G. Ulmer claimed that the German expressionists would build a new set for every camera angle,...

Simon Pegg is a man of many talents. Not content with acting, penning an entertaining memoir and cleaning up on the North London pub quiz circuit, he's now squeezed his mind grapes into a new graphic novel.Inspired by a running joke in his autobiography, Nerd Do Well, it's called - deep breath - 'The Adventures Of Simon Pegg And Canterbury And The Mystery Of The Scarlet Panther And The Star Of Nefertiti And The Tablet Of Amonhotep IV', and below is chapter 1 to bring a little planet-saving superheroics to your Wednesday afternoon. As the title (which we're not repeating) implies, our hero is a buffed-up Pegg himself. With a ripped torso that's more brawn than Shaun, it's up to Pegg and his faithful roboservant Canterbury to save the planet from fiery destruction. The villain behind this dastardedly scheme? Lord Black, whose plan to fire an ancient Egyptian laser into the sun is mind-bogglingly devilish,...
