Located 25 miles south of downtown Atlanta, in Fayetteville, Trilith Studios is the nation’s largest purpose-built studio complex, with a long list of clients ranging from Marvel movies such as “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” to the latest iteration of the game show “Family Feud.” Now, it’s expanding outside its gates with Trilith Live, a seven-acre entertainment complex set to open next month adjacent to the studio in the Town at Trilith, its 235-acre master-planned development with 300 homes — and room for 450 more — a large percentage of which house entertainment workers.
Trilith Live will feature a cinema complex, an 1,800-seat auditorium, 120,000 square-feet of restaurants, shops and office space and, most significant, a pair of 25,000-square-foot stages for productions using live studio audiences, such as reality competition and game shows.

When Mayim Bialik wrote “As Sick as They Made Us,” the story was set in Los Angeles. But when she put her directing hat on and started developing the project with producer Anne Clements, it became clear that making the independent film in California wouldn’t make sense financially.
Ultimately the director and producer chose to shoot the film — about family drama and dysfunction — in New Jersey because of its film and television production tax credit.
“It was perfect because above-the-line and below-the-line counts [as part of the credit] and we were so close to New York,” Clements says. “So our crew was made up of New Jersey locals as well as some folks from New York.”
For four weeks in June, “As Sick as They Made Us” cast members — including Dustin Hoffman, Candice Bergen, Simon Helberg, Justin Chu Cary, Charlie Weber and Dianna Agron — descended upon the Garden State for a location-only shoot.

Three purpose-built soundstages have opened doors at a complex in New Jersey, where a recent film and TV production surge joins a long-standing boom across the Hudson River in New York City and state. Cinelease Studios, Caven Point, located in Jersey City, offers 112,400 square feet across three soundstages that are 40 feet high to the grid and 50 feet to the ceiling.
The studio (named for its Caven Point Road location) is accessible via New York area public transit lines and is within labor union drive-to-work zones, meaning employers don’t shoulder worker transportation costs. “It’s a stone’s throw from lower Manhattan,” says Gannon Murphy, general manager of Cinelease Studios, which manages 14 soundstages in four states. The nearby Cinelease Studios Brooklyn is home to the second seasons of Apple TV Plus series “Dickinson” and Netflix series “Russian Doll.”
