Zack Snyder showed a lot of promise with the DC Extended Universe as he spearheaded the brand-new franchise with Man of Steel in 2013. Unfortunately, as the universe unfolded, fans began to become more and more disappointed with what was being shown on screen.
Fans expected for DC to have a franchise similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, things began to crack, eventually leading to James Gunn taking control and providing a new universe for fans to fall in love with. For a clearer depiction of just how much the Dceu missed out on, viewers can look no further than the characters they never knew were in the franchise to begin with.

No Other Land, Academy Award-nominated for Best Documentary Feature, opens today in New York at Film Forum from mTuckman Media/Cinetic Media with a limited theatrical expansion next weekend.
The doc is written, directed, produced and edited by a collective of Palestinian and Israeli activists and filmmakers — Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. It premiered at Berlin, winning Best Documentary, followed by a widely decorated festival sweep. It sits at 100% with Critics on Rotten Tomatoes (57 reviews). Deadline’s Matthew Carey interviews the filmmakers here.
The release started circulating against the backdrop of the brutal Israel-Hamas war, currently in a period of ceasefire. It predates the war but explores root causes of enmity as the filmmakers chronicle the Israeli military’s incremental expulsion of the West Bank community of Masafer Yatta — home to 20 ancient Palestinian villages.

An unpretentious B-movie made with A-grade effort, “Valiant One” packs decent action and mostly sturdy drama into the tale of U.S. soldiers whose mission near the Dmz goes haywire and leaves them stranded in North Korea. The first film directed by longtime producer and production executive Steve Barnett (“300”) doesn’t add anything to the “trapped behind enemy lines” playbook but does offer a pacy combination of well-executed combat scenes and reluctant-hero drama that should play especially well with military movie buffs. Boasting solid central performances by Chase Stokes (“Outer Banks” series) and Lana Condor (“To All the Boys” films), “Valiant One” opens in limited U.S. cinemas on Jan. 31.
“Valiant One” is the kind of mid-size action movie we’ve seen much less of in commercial theatrical release since these straight-to-streaming days began. Though lacking the scale of a big-budget spectacular — it’s no “Black Hawk Down” — the...

Many different stories have come out of WWII with tales of personal sacrifice, courage, and hardships. The extensive large-scale conflict provided many stories and inspired every form of media to explore it. The war defined the world for decades and changed everything about it. Many of the film depictions followed cases of heroism within many branches in the military.
One integral group of soldiers for every single fighting country in WWII were the pilots in the sky. They risked it all and maneuvered within the sky among numerous risks to help give their fighting side the upper hand. Many films have been made to emulate the strength, courage, and challenges that pilots had to face in the skies as they fought for their country.

Stephen King is one of the most adapted authors, and there are close to 50 feature-length movies based on his novels and short stories. There have been King movies almost as long as there have been King books, with the adaptation of his debut novel, Carrie, arriving two years after its publication. Since then, there have been dozens of adaptations with of various levels of success. King's work makes for such compelling movies, even some that are not part of the horror genre, because they often share the trait of being centered on mostly normal people thrown into horrifying situations.

Shadow in the Cloud is an action-horror hybrid that combines a twisty plot and social commentary with creature-feature elements and a World War II adventure. The state of horror in 2023 is strong. Familiar names such as Brandon Cronenberg and Eli Roth returned with "Infinity Pool" and "Thanksgiving" and so did "Re-Animator" screenwriter Dennis Paoli, writer of "Suitable Flesh," his first realized feature script in over 20 years. Old franchises returned, too, with "Evil Dead Rise" and even "Saw X" doing well critically and commercially. Less established filmmakers have also made an impression, namely Nahnatchka Khan, director of "Totally Killer," and Danish debut filmmaker Gabriel Bier Gislason, who helmed "Attachment."

When it was released in 2022, The Russo Bros.' spy thriller "The Gray Man," based on the 2009 novel by Mark Greaney, boasted the largest budget of any Netflix film to date, costing the studio about $200 million. "The Gray Man" was a flippant action flick that starred Ryan Gosling as a skilled CIA assassin nicknamed Sierra Six, after the ultra-secret Sierra program that trained him. Sierra Six, on an early mission, learns from the now-independent Sierra Four (Callan Mulvey) that there may be some active corruption or malfeasance in the Sierra program, and goes rogue, searching for the truth. Six's boss Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton) hires the kooky, ultra-violent Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans) to track him down. Ana De Armas also appears as a CIA agent named Dani Miranda.
"The Gray Man" was reviewed generally poorly, fetching a mere 45% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, for all its expensive bombast and dazzling star power,...

Children of the Corn is a new adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel, this time by Shudder and directed by Kurt Wimmer.
An adaptation shaped for the modern “sensibility” towards King’s novel, which raises philosophical questions about whether “any time in the past was better”.
I have never read such negative reviews about a film.

Could they have saved themselves the effort of making it? The answer is a resounding “yes”. It’s just another horror telefilm and which with this supposed regeneration of the tale – without covering any new ground – loses almost everything quitessential from the novel and destroys everything that the 1984 film had about it that was good.

Stephen King‘s 1977 short story inspired an entire Children of the Corn franchise nearly a dozen deep, each new entry drifting further away from the source material. Writer/Director Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Ultraviolet) keeps that momentum going with the franchise’s eleventh installment, an entry that bears very little in common with King’s story other than murderous kids, an abundance of corn, and a small town Nebraska setting. If only Children of the Corn 2023 connected those elements in any meaningful or logical way.
An opening sequence introduces young Eden (Kate Moyer), an orphan playing outside her Rylstone, Nebraska group home as her brother haggardly emerges from the nearby cornfield. He chooses a weapon lying about the yard, then promptly murders one of the home’s adult employees, escalating until massive efforts by authorities finally subdue him as Eden remains locked in fear. Writer/director Kurt Wimmer’s recently released take on the Stephen King short story Children of the Corn is described as being a remake, but it’s different enough from the source material and the two previous adaptations – released in 1984 and 2009 – that you could really just call it “another Children of the Corn movie”. But whatever you call it, it went over pretty well with us here at JoBlo / Arrow in the Head. You can read Tyler Nichols’ 8/10 review at This Link, watch his interview with Wimmer and stars Elena Kampouris and Kate Moyer Here, and watch him discuss the film with fellow fan Mike Conway over Here. So we’re glad to share the news that the new Children of the Corn will be receiving a VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray release soon. The VOD release date is the closest; as of March 21st you’ll be able to watch the movie Here.

Director Kurt Wimmer‘s new take on Stephen King‘s horror novel Children of the Corn first arrived in theaters earlier this month, and up next it comes to Digital on March 21.
What about physical media, you ask? We’ve learned this week that Children of the Corn 2023 will be hitting Blu-ray on May 9, 2023, with Deleted Scenes included on the disc.
The new movie is the eleventh overall installment in the long-running franchise, and the first movie in the saga since John Gulager’s Children of the Corn: Runaway in 2018.
In Wimmer’s movie, which is said to have very little to do with King’s novel, “Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. After experiencing long delays, the latest Children of the Corn installment was finally released in theaters on March 3. The film serves as a prequel to Stephen King's 1977 short story and gives audiences a deeper insight into the events leading up to the children's murderous rampage. Unlike the 1984 film, He Who Walks Behind the Rows is physically depicted in the latest chapter, amending what many consider to be the original Children of the Corn's biggest mistake.
Children of the Corn is written and directed by Kurt Wimmer and stars Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence. While Kampouris is most well-known for her role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Moyer worked on projects such as Hulu's Holly Hobbie and The Handmaid's Tale. Some of Wimmer's credits include Law Abiding Citizen, Equilibrium, and Spell.

They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.
King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.
The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

Stars: Kate Moyer, Elena Kampouris, Jayden McGinlay, Callan Mulvey, Bruce Spence | Written and Directed by Kurt Wimmer
The film Children of the Corn, based on the Stephen King short story, spawned a franchise of considerable durability, but rather dubious quality. The first film was released in 1984 and the series sputtered to a halt in 2018 after the tenth entry, Children of the Corn: Runaway. But nothing ever really dies in the corn and two years later Children of the Corn got its second reboot following the TV version in 2009.
Or rather a reboot was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer. Wimmer who has directed Equilibrium and Ultraviolet is no stranger to reboots having written the new versions of Point Break, The Thomas Crown Affair and Total Recall. But after filming it seemed to disappear back into the cornfields for three years of vague mentions of release dates that came and went.

The latest entry in the ever-growing canon of Stephen King screen adaptations is Children of the Corn, based on the horror legend’s 1977 short story of the same name. Rlje Films has today released its official trailer ahead of its theatrical premiere March 3rd.
Though Children of the Corn was already made famous thanks to the polarizing 1984 slasher flick, this new version by writer and director Kurt Wimmer is a “chilling new re-telling” of the story about a cult of children who aim to kill every adult in their small Nebraska town. While the main antagonist of the original story and the ’80s film was a nine-year-old boy named Isaac, the 2023 iteration focuses on the tween, pigtailed villain Eden (Kate Moyer).
“Prepare to witness the horrific rise of the next generation of evil,” narrates an eerie, gravelly voice at the beginning of the trailer, as we see vignettes of Eden’s blood-soaked malevolence.

"This is our world now!" Those damn kids! Rlje Films has unveiled an official trailer for Children of the Corn, a new update on the horror classic, originally based on the Stephen King story from the 1970s. It was adapted a few times before - there was the original 1984 horror movie Children of the Corn, which had a few sequels; and there was a TV movie version in 2009 for Syfy / Fox. After a few years waiting in release limbo, this 2023 update is set to open in theaters this March. Children of the Corn trailer finally reveals the long-delayed Stephen King remake. King’s Children of the Corn short story appeared in his legendary collection Night Shift, and later went on to be adapted as a somewhat-maligned 1984 feature film. This seemingly minor King adaptation then somehow spawned a string of sequels, many released direct to video, concluding with 2018’s Children of the Corn: Runaway.
But now Children of the Corn is back (again) via a remake film that promises to put a new prequel spin on King’s original story.
The first trailer for the long-delayed film is indeed now out via Rlje Films, and those religious fanatic killer kids are definitely up to no good in this latest iteration. As the synopsis reads:
