Exclusive: Jennifer Holland, who has played Agent Emilia Harcourt in James Gunn’s DC movie The Suicide Squad and spinoff series Peacemaker, has signed with Strand Entertainment for representation.
Holland has reprised the tough-as-nails Harcourt in such DC movies as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

His mission is to find and eliminate parasitic butterfly-like creatures who have taken over human bodies. The second season will reportedly premiere after Gunn’s Superman which doesn’t hit theaters until July 11, 2025. Gunn will direct some episodes with Greg Mottola directing others. Tim Meadows is part of season 2.

Back in 2022, Peter Safran and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn were named as co-chairs of DC Studios, meaning that they're in charge of making movies and TV shows based on DC Comics. Warner Bros. Discovery hasn't had as much success in this area as it would like, with films like Justice League underperforming and films like Blue Beetle flying largely under the radar. Can they turn things around?
The first big movie made under Safran and Gunn's stewardship will be Superman, which makes sense; if you're rebooting the DC Cinematic Universe, why not start with DC's most recognizable hero (give or take Batman)? "We’re deep in the process of editing," Gunn said of the movie at New York Comic Con, per The Hollywood Reporter. "David Corenswet is going to fucking blow people away. He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be.

Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are so beloved from their earlier TV roles — she was Veronica Mars; he was The O.C.’s Seth Cohen — that they could team up in a thoroughly mediocre series and we’d probably still watch it just to see them on screen together. But thankfully, their new romantic comedy Nobody Wants This (now streaming on Netflix; I’ve seen the first four episodes) is very worthy of their combined talents, putting a thoughtful and modern spin on the rom-com genre and letting its two stars shine more brightly than they have in years.

The hit HBO Max series ‘Peacemaker’ is returning for a second season in 2025. Showrunner James Gunn recently shared details about the new season’s planned release and how it will fit into the expanding DC Universe.
‘Peacemaker’ was a surprise hit when its first season premiered on HBO Max in early 2022. Starring John Cena as the title character, the antihero comedy series was praised by critics and broke viewership records. With the changes in DC’s film and TV leadership, Gunn confirmed Season 2 will arrive in late 2025.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s merger last year brought executive shifts. James Gunn and Peter Safran now oversees DC Studios and are establishing a new interconnected DC Universe continuity called Dcu. While Season 1 occurred outside this new universe, Season 2 will take place within it.
To distinguish the rebooted version, Gunn showed a tweaked helmet design for Peacemaker on social media. Other costume or set...

In a world… in which movies are just as much products as they are art, studios need to sell the latest releases to the broadest possible audiences. That means that they not only need to craft trailers promoting the films, but they need to misrepresent what films are really about.
On a certain level, that tendency toward misrepresentation makes sense. Trailers only have a couple of minutes to get people interested in the film, and complex works of art don’t lend themselves to such simplicities.
That said, it’s hard to see a masterpiece reduced to just a few sizzle moments, trying their best to ensure that the audience won’t be surprised or challenged by what they’re about to see. Here are some of the worst offenders in cinema history, movies that ended up to be so much more than what these teasers promised.

It’s been nearly 30 years since Vince Vaughn first exploded onto movie screens as Trent, the slick, confident best friend to Jon Favreau’s Mikey in Swingers, who was forever convinced that a trip to Las Vegas could solve any emotional problem. In the decades since, Vaughn has never lost that irrepressible presence, though some projects have taken better advantage of those gifts than others. Age comes for all of us, so it seems appropriate that in his latest role, as Florida cop Andrew Yancy in Apple’s Bad Monkey,...

Acclaimed director Greg Mottola has revealed that his plans for a sequel to Confess, Fletch, starring Jon Hamm as the iconic investigator Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, have been scrapped due to interference from the film’s studio.
Mottola, known for helming comedic hits like Superbad, had written a script based on Gregory Mcdonald’s 1978 Fletch novel Fletch’s Fortune. But the director claims Miramax, which controls the rights to the book franchise, shut down the project under new leadership without giving the follow-up a chance.
“I was told the first film lost money, though no real effort was made to promote it,” Mottola lamented on social media. “Feature comedy is a tough sell these days.”
The setback is just the latest in a long line of obstacles for the beloved Fletch character. Originally made famous by Chevy Chase in 1985’s Fletch and its 1989 sequel, multiple attempts over the years to bring...

“My comedy is too dry and unsentimental for the new masters,” says Greg Mottola of his cancelled Confess, Fletch sequel.
A planned sequel to the 2022 comedy Confess, Fletch is no longer happening, its director and co-writer Greg Mottola has confirmed. Jon Hamm, who played the title role of Irwin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher, was keen to return for at least one further film, and a script had been written, but a changing of executives at Miramax appears to have ended the chances of it getting made.
“Alas, the new head of Miramax, who controls the rights to all the books, shot down my sequel project,” Mottola wrote in response to a post written by critic Bilge Ebiri on Twitter/X/Muskbook. “The Fletch curse got me.”
With that response triggering messages from other users who expressed their affection for the comedy thriller, Mottola responded with some surprisingly candid insights into the sequel’s cancellation.

Fletch may have once lived but he is indeed now dead — or, the future of his movies are, at least. Greg Mottola, who resurrected the snarky private investigator (and Los Angeles Lakers’ #99) in 2022, has confirmed that the future of the character is as dead as a doornail, with no sequel planned for Confess, Fletch.
Posting to social media this week, Greg Mottola confirmed that the Fletch series will once again lay dormant, with the director having brought back the character — via Jon Hamm — more than 30 years after Fletch Lives. “Alas, the new head of Miramax, who controls the rights to all the books, shot down my sequel project. The Fletch curse got me.” Mottola is here referring to the numerous attempts to get the character back on the big screen, with various iterations involving Kevin Smith (easily the most vocal supporters of another Fletch), Bill Lawrence and more seeing differing levels of hope.

When "Deadpool" opened to $132 million in North America over Valentine's Day weekend in 2016, everything changed for Ryan Reynolds. Up until that point of his career, he'd been an immensely appealing B-level star with A-list potential. His best shot at hitting the blockbuster big time came when he slipped on the power ring as Hal Jordan in 2011's "Green Lantern." When that not-as-bad-as-its-reputation-but-not-all-that-good-either $200 million gamble stalled out with a $220 million worldwide gross, Reynolds was back to being the wisecracking comedic engine of mostly ho-hum action movies and, on occasion, a very interesting actor in pretty good indie dramas.
That he hasn't made anything in that latter category of movies post-"Deadpool" is a bummer for those of us who think Reynolds has more to offer as a performer than a shotgun spray of smug quips in forgettable four-quadrant product like "Detective Pikachu" and "Free Guy." The "Deadpool" movies are clearly personal for Reynolds,...

The third installment of the Sands: International Film Festival of St Andrews has set its slate, and that will include director Steven Soderbergh engaging in a conversation with directors Anthony and Joe Russo. I will moderate that discussion, which will touch on the preposterously unlikely way that Soderbergh discovered and godfathered the career of the duo that directed Hollywood’s all-time highest grossing film, Avengers: Endgame. The festival runs next month from April 19-21.
Soderbergh’s own career took off with sex, lies, and videotape, the film that just celebrated 35 years since the filmmaker turned Sundance into a lucrative independent film hatchery. It went on to win the Palme d’Or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, followed by Soderbergh’s first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. He has gone on to direct films as diverse as Traffic, for which he received the 2000 Academy Award for Directing—the...

Stewart is doing double duty here at the festival, starring in the Sam and Andy Zuchero acquistion title, Love Me, and A24’s Rose Glass directed genre title Love Lies Bleeding.
Eisenberg spoke about how he was struck by the emotion she brought to what was a brief driving scene in which he had one line, and she was all face on the set of Greg Mottola’s Adventureland. Eisenberg and Stewart also starred in Woody Allen’s Cafe Society and the action movie American Ultra.

Exclusive: Steven Soderbergh has dedicated more than four decades to shaping his legacy in Hollywood as a director, cinematographer and producer. You Hurt My Feelings. At a Friday-night showing of Nicole Holofcener’s latest film You Hurt My Feelings (2023), I noticed several people who had come with their moms. Holofcener makes great films to watch with your mom, if her definition of a great film is something that will make her laugh but won't treat her like an idiot. Holofcener’s stories are smart, funny and heartwarming, a little bit sad in the right places, sophisticated but palatable. Invariably, a great actress plays the lead—Catherine Keener, for the most part, though Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars both in Enough Said (2013) and You Hurt My Feelings. In the film, Beth (Louis-Dreyfus), a writer, overhears Don (Tobias Menzies) telling her brother-in-law that he doesn't like her latest novel. It hurts her feelings. She dry retches on the sidewalk, sobs to her sister, and swears she will never look at her husband the same way again.

It’s been 10 years since Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg concluded their beloved Cornetto trilogy, which began with 2004’s zom-com Shaun of the Dead, passed through with buddy cop comedy Hot Fuzz and ended it, appropriately enough, with an apocalyptic pub crawl in The World’s End. And while we have our favorite flavors, star and co-writer Pegg has chimed in with his…
Speaking with Discussing Film, Pegg had a seemingly easy choice, saying, “You know, my favorite of the Cornetto trilogy is The World’s End because it’s the least audience friendly. It’s the darkest of the three. It’s the most challenging, and I love the idea of actually putting the audience in a position where they have to feel a little bit uncomfortable and not necessarily cozy into the familiar…” For what it’s worth, a JoBlo.com poll from 2021 put Shaun of the Dead as the best of any Edgar Wright movie.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been an unusual mainstay in popular culture for decades, so they might be seen as occupying an unusual subgenre unto themselves. Originally created in 1984, the Turtles were intended as a satire of the ultra-gritty superhero comics of the time, Frank Miller's "Daredevil" comics in particular. The absurd title and weird premise, however, caught on, and by 1990, the Turtles were starring in TV shows, video games, and a live-action feature film. In 2023, the Turtles are entering what might be their 20th unique continuity with the release of Jeff Rowe's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." They have come a long way since their superhero-inflected origins.
"Mutant Mayhem" was co-written and co-produced by Seth Rogen, who also plays the voice of Bebop, a mutant warthog. As a producer, Rogen has had a long, prolific, and quite interesting career. His movies tend to be lightweight...

When movie fans think of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, they tend to think of Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy. The British duo starred in a trio of beloved, farcical favorites — "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz," and "The World's End" — in the 2000s and 2010s, with Pegg co-writing all three films. The Cornetto trilogy might be Pegg and Frost's comedic opus, but it's not the only wild, genre-bending comedy project they've done together. There comes a time in every comedy lover's life when they must ask, for better or worse: "hey, remember 'Paul'?!"
Part road trip buddy comedy, part weird science fiction, "Paul" might be the type of film the phrase "your mileage may vary" was made for. I remember laughing hysterically at some parts of the movie about a space alien (Seth Rogen) on the run from the Secret Service with a couple of geeks, but being put off by other parts.

Greg Mottola’s amiable film rattles along with a host of wacky characters and Hamm’s more sophisticated portrayal of Irvin Fletcher
It may or may not be a good career move for Jon Hamm to play a role once associated with Chevy Chase. But that’s what he’s doing in this screwball mystery caper, directed by Greg “Superbad” Mottola, based on the rascally character originally created in a series of novels by author and former Boston Globe reporter Gregory Mcdonald.
Hamm plays Irvin “Fletch” Fletcher, the journalist turned private investigator, a rumpled ladies’ man forever getting into scrapes. The part was taken by Chase in a couple of films in the 80s, although Hamm plays Fletch as a sophisticated wisecrack merchant, without the broad comedy that Chase went for. His Fletch is a fast-talking sleuth who is engaged for a job in Rome by the beautiful and mysterious Italian heiress Angela de Grassi.

John Slattery looks terrible. “I hate to dash your hopes,” the 60-year-old tells me down the phone from New York. “I’m in sweats. I’m making a cup of tea. I’ve just exercised. I…” He pauses, grasping for the right word to describe his current ghoulishness. He sighs. “I look like s***.” I can’t verify the alleged horror-show that is his appearance, but I’m not sure I believe him. Not John Slattery? Not Mad Men’s impeccably tailored bon vivant Roger Sterling? But he’s the king of pocket squares! With hair as white and well-coiffed as a Dulux pup!
Slattery is ruining his public image while at home with his pet dog circling his feet, his voice, at least, just as we remember it – that smooth, honeyed cadence that makes him Hollywood’s go-to for raconteurs, statesmen and authority figures. Tony Stark’s industrialist dad in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After what seems like an eternity of talk of a third Fletch movie, it has finally arrived. Not the Fletch we were expecting (I’d honestly still like to see Kevin Smith’s proposed version with Jason Lee) but a Fletch that has a pretty decent pedigree – including Jon Hamm playing the titular character and Greg Mottola and Zev Borow behind the camera. Ok, so it won’t match up to the craziness of Chevy Chase’s two Fletch movies (could any new Fletch movie?) but we’ve got the acting chops, plus the action And the comedy experience – all of which stand the film in good stead…
Confess, Fletch sees the roguishly charming and endlessly troublesome Fletch (Hamm) become the prime suspect...
