Amy J. Moore is an award-winning cultural activist who develops,
produces, and finances entertainment projects, unearthed from across
the globe, with the aim of humanizing different cultures through
entertainment, and reinvesting back into local communities.
In the last three decades, Moore has produced or been involved in the production of dozens of theatrical productions, television programs, and feature films. She is well-known for producing the global hit series, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. She optioned the series of internationally best-selling novels before their US publication. She developed and produced the award-winning film alongside director, Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Richard Curtis, and Harvey Weinstein. Through Moore's insistence and direct work with the President of the Republic of Botswana and his Parliament, the production was shot on location in Botswana with a crew of over two thousand people who reported directly to her.
Prior to that, and after the fall of apartheid, Moore was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the first Black Empowerment film production company, a division of the publicly-held media conglomerate, New Africa Investments Ltd with media holdings in Johannesburg, South Africa. Moore sits on a number of Boards, including The Memory Box Foundation.
She is a frequent traveler in and around Africa.
Moore won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Drama, the American Film Institute TV Program of the Year, the George Foster Peabody Award, the National Association of Multi-ethnicity in Communications Best Drama Award, the Entertainment Industries Council (IEC) Prism Award, and was Emmy-nominated.
She's working on three comedies now, all set in Detroit.
