Fleetwood Mac have unveiled Rumours Live, a live album taken from a concert the band performed at The Forum in Los Angeles in 1977. The record is out today, September 8th, via Rhino. Stream it in full below.
Rumours Live was recorded when Fleetwood Mac were at a zenith of their success. Rumours, their seminal album from February 1977, was No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, and the band was wrapping up its support tour. They rolled into Los Angeles for three shows at The Forum — the one that would go on to become Rumours Live was held on August 29th, 1977, performed to a crowd of nearly 20,000 fans. The set was recorded by engineer Ken Caillat using a mobile recording truck owned by the Recording Plant, the studio where the band recorded most of Rumours itself.

Earlier this year, the Prime Video streaming service released the ten episode series Daisy Jones & The Six (watch it Here), based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid – a novel that was partially inspired by the complicated issues Fleetwood Mac band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks dealt with behind the scenes. It isn’t directly the Fleetwood Mac story, but comparisons are unavoidable. And now Nicks has taken to social media to share what she thought of the Prime series. In short, she loved it!
Developed for television by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, Daisy Jones & The Six has the following synopsis: In 1977, Daisy Jones & The Six were on top of the world. Fronted by two heat seeking missiles in Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, the band had risen from obscurity to fame. And then, after a sold-out...

When Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac, he helped the group find unprecedented success but also opened them up to drama. Buckingham and then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks increased the band’s star power. Their tumultuous relationship also nearly broke the band apart. They weren’t the only ones causing problems, though. According to Buckingham, nobody was ever on the same page. He shared how he thought this made them the opposite of the Eagles.
Lindsey Buckingham said Fleetwood Mac was the opposite of the Eagles
Fleetwood Mac was an incredibly successful band in spite of their personal drama. They broke up with each other, had affairs, consumed copious amounts of drugs and alcohol, and fought over their music. Buckingham said they were rarely on the same page, even after years of working together.
“[T]hings change, and that’s a part of Fleetwood Mac,” he told Rolling Stone in 2012. “We’re a moving target.

By the time Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie had been a member of the band for years. Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham brought a new dynamic to the group and helped them rise to unprecedented success. McVie was happy to welcome them into the group. According to Nicks, though, she wouldn’t have been happy if she was in the same position. She said she wouldn’t have been as happy to welcome another woman into the band.

When Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac at the end of 1974, the group set off on a path that made them one of the most commercially successful bands in the world. Nicks and Buckingham’s influence on the group cannot be understated. Their songwriting, vocals, and overall musical talent fit in with the band but also transformed it. It’s hard to imagine the band without them.

In 1994, Fleetwood Mac set out on tour without the presence of key members Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. While they would eventually rejoin the group, they had all stepped away. In their absence, Mick Fleetwood hired replacements. McVie spoke to Nicks’ replacement and told her that she was behaving honorably. Here’s why.

After many tumultuous years with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks, McVie, and Buckingham opted out of the 1994 tour. While they had reunited for Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993, Nicks and Buckingham had quit the band, and McVie no longer wanted to tour. Still, Fleetwood was dedicated to the group and wanted to continue to perform. In order to do so, though, he had to hire new members.
Fleetwood and bassist John McVie hired Dave Mason, Billy Burnette, and Bekka Bramlett.

When most people think of Fleetwood Mac, they picture the band’s 1970s lineup. However, the group has seen plenty of other musicians, but they didn’t always stick around very long. One singer, Bekka Bramlett, was actually fired from Fleetwood Mac via fax.
Bekka Bramlett joined Fleetwood Mac in the 1990s
Bramlett, the daughter of 70s rock duo Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, first linked up with the members of Fleetwood Mac through one of drummer Mick Fleetwood’s solo projects. She sang with his other band, the Zoo, through 1991 and 1992.
The next year, Fleetwood and bassist John McVie decided to go out on the road and tour as Fleetwood Mac — without singer Stevie Nicks, guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham, or pianist and vocalist Christine McVie.

Christine McVie‘s cause of death has been revealed. On Nov. 30, the Fleetwood Mac singer died of an ischaemic stroke, according to her death certificate, which was obtained by The Blast.
Per Mayo Clinic, an ischaemic stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks or narrows an artery leading to the brain.
The docs show that McVie’s stroke came after she was diagnosed with cancer, which is listed as a secondary cause of her death. McVie had metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin, which, according to the National Cancer Institute, is “a rare disease in which malignant cells are found in the body but the place the cancer began is not known.”
McVie, who was 79 at the time of her death, was cremated, according to the docs.

Also listed is a secondary cause of “metastatic malignancy of unknown origin,” which is a cancer that spreads from where it started to a distant part of the body, according to the National Cancer Institute. Fans of classic rock know all too well the tumultuous history so many of their favorite bands dealt with. Whether due to success or failure, band members often come and go, often to pursue solo careers. Fleetwood Mac, of course, was no exception. But one band member, Bekka Bramlett, once revealed she “felt a little bit disposable” during her time playing with Fleetwood Mac.

Classic rock aficionados likely know all too well what their favorite bands have gone through to make such chart-topping music. Yet, even among its peers, Fleetwood Mac has had an extraordinary amount of behind-the-scenes drama. In fact, one singer recently revealed she knew she was only serving as a replacement until Stevie Nicks finally returned to the fold.

The music of Fleetwood Mac hasn’t only had a profound impact on the band members and their fans. Like all art, it also reflects the inner lives of those who created it. And in the case of one song written by the late Christine McVie, she sought to pay tribute to her personal relationship with another musician who died in the early 1980s due to a tragic accident.
Christine McVie wasn’t part of Fleetwood Mac’s original line-up
Although not part of the original Fleetwood Mac line-up, McVie soon became an integral part of the band. She initially sat in as a session musician for the band’s second album, 1968’s Mr. Wonderful. But after marrying the band’s bass guitarist John McVie that same year, she left her previous band, Chicken Shack, in 1969 and became a full member of Fleetwood Mac in 1970.
Christine McVie stayed with the band until the mid-to-late 1990s.

At this point, Fleetwood Mac seems unstoppable. The band has weathered countless storms over the years but remains active more than 50 years after its formation. Even so, the 2022 death of Christine McVie is a particularly hard blow to the band and its legions of fans. McVie, of course, was instrumental in many of Fleetwood Mac’s hits, including its most popular song ever.

Soon before its release, bass guitarist John McVie joined the band, making him an instrumental part of the band’s first album. But it didn’t take long for the band to grow bigger.

Fleetwood Mac has released more than 15 albums over the years. But few have left the indelible mark that the band’s 1977 album, Rumours, has. But while even casual fans of Fleetwood Mac will know the album’s songs, they might not realize how instrumental the late Christine McVie was in creating the iconic track that would ultimately save the band itself.

McVie wasn’t part of the original line-up of Fleetwood Mac, preceded by founders Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, and Jeremy Spencer. Stevie Nicks is a legend as part of Fleetwood Mac and a solo artist. Fleetwood Mac was formed in London in 1967. Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham joined the group in 1974. Their addition launched the band to huge commercial success, first with the album Fleetwood Mac (1975) and then Rumours (1977). Despite Nicks’ fame, a psychologist once told the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter that joining Fleetwood Mac was her “saddest day.”

While Fleetwood Mac has had a constantly rotating roster, many consider the true band to consist of Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, and John McVie. In the 1990s, the band went back on the road, but the only returning members were Fleetwood and John McVie. Bekka Bramlett filled in for Nicks, and according to Bramlett, Nicks was not a fan.

In the summer of 1994, Fleetwood Mac went on tour. However, the band was very different, with Bramlett, Dave Mason, and Billy Burnette. In his 2014 memoir, Play On, Fleetwood admitted that he should not have called themselves Fleetwood Mac as they weren’t the same band. It was essentially false advertising to sell tickets.
Bramlett took on the role of Nicks, and she knew it was impossible to fill those shoes.

Rolling Stone‘s interview series King for a Day features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and singers who had the difficult job of fronting major rock bands after the departure of an iconic vocalist. Some of them stayed in their bands for years, while others lasted just a few months. In the end, however, they all found out that replacement singers can themselves be replaced. This edition features former Fleetwood Mac singer Bekka Bramlett.

Riley Keough and Sam Claflin’s dueling frontman antics on “Daisy Jones & the Six” has sparked several audience theories about what real-life, classic rock figures from the ’70s actually inspired these characters. Many fans have pointed fingers to similarities between former bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham which begs the question, was “Daisy Jones & the Six” inspired by Fleetwood Mac or another real band?
Author Taylor Jenkins Reid, whose book introduced the world to Daisy Jones, has previously detailed several sources of inspiration in her writing including rock, disco and the whole Laurel Canyon scene. But Fleetwood Mac was always front and center in Reid’s mind. “I started with the germ of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac,” the author said in a previous interview hosted by her publisher. But as she researched and to pull creative inspiration from a slew of ‘70s stars, — crediting Bruce Springsteen,...

This article contains spoilers for the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six. Details about the real life band they were inspired by may lightly spoil future events in the show.
The Prime Video series Daisy Jones & the Six is an adaptation of the 2017 book by author Taylor Jenkins Reid. The novel tells the story of a fictional 1970s California rock group who break through when a charismatic songwriting female lead vocalist grabs the mic. The identity of the group’s real-life counterpart is very thinly veiled. The tagline of the series proclaims “Their music made them famous. Their breakup made them legends.” They can’t be talking about the Beatles, who were legends before they split. Fleetwood Mac, however, sustained multiple breakups before the ensemble even thought about calling it quits.

Fleetwood Mac toiled for a decade before they achieved massive success by adding Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to the lineup. The duo provided the spark that helped the band explode in popularity. Twenty-five Fleetwood Mac songs landed on the Billboard singles chart, including nine in the top 10. Continuing without Christine McVie seems unlikely, according to Mick Fleetwood, so those nine tunes, including Fleetwood Mac’s only No. 1 hit, could be their only top-10 songs. Let’s look at how they stack up.

Fleetwood Mac hasn’t come out with new music as a band since 2003. While many fans want the band to continue, that dream was halted after the death of keyboardist and vocalist Christine McVie. In a recent interview, Mick Fleetwood confirmed that Fleetwood Mac continuing without McVie is “unthinkable.”

While Fleetwood Mac has rearranged its roster a few times since its conception in 1967, most fans know the official lineup to be Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks. The band had a successful run, with their most significant hit being 1977’s Rumors.
In the late 1980s, the band began to disintegrate before reuniting in 1993 for Bill Clinton’s first presidential inauguration. The band then reunited for a live compilation album called The Dance in 1997. Christine left the band in 1998, but...

Mick Fleetwood has said that it would be “unthinkable” to perform as a band right now, following the death of Christine McVie.
McVie died in November last year, aged 79, following a “short illness”.
In The Independent’s tribute to McVie, Helen Brown said McVie “sent love across the airwaves”.
Now, while being interviewed at Sunday’s (5 February) Grammy Awards, he told the Los Angeles Times: “I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris.
“I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”
The musician said he would continue to perform in separate projects, like the rest of his bandmates.
“They all get out and play, so I’m gonna be doing the same thing, finding people to play with,” he said, before joking: “Anyone out there?...

Lindsey Buckingham is best known for recording several albums with the long-running band Fleetwood Mac, including the 1979 record Tusk. The guitarist reportedly had a “my way or the highway” attitude while making the double album, according to a producer who worked with the band. Here’s what Buckingham’s former bandmates and the producer said about recording Tusk.

Tusk was Fleetwood Mac’s 12th studio album. It was released as a double album in 1979 and featured the popular tracks “Sisters of the Moon,” “Sara,” “Think About Me,” and “Storms.”
Buckingham rehearsed several songs at home before introducing them to the band to be considered for the album. In the studio, he requested and received a replica of his personal bathroom to capture the “amazing sound” he had created at home.

Christine McVie was very close to her Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Lindsey Buckingham, and she even wrote a hit song about the guitarist. Here’s which surprising track McVie wrote for her friend and what she said about it.

Keyboardist Christine McVie wrote the Fleetwood Mac song “Over My Head,” which Reprise Records selected as the lead single from the band’s 1975 self-titled album. The song reached No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976, and it helped the Fleetwood Mac record sell 8 million copies.
The track tells the story of a mercurial man whose moods change like the weather. Although McVie was married to her Fleetwood Mac bandmate, John McVie, she gave no indication that “Over My Head” was about the bassist.

On November 30, we lost one of rock music’s most prolific songbirds when Christine McVie died at the age of 79. She spent most of her 50-year career with Fleetwood Mac, which has seen several reincarnations since its original lineup over half a century ago.
In 1967, British guitarist Peter Green formed the band that would eventually be known as Fleetwood Mac, with drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie (who replaced Bob Brunning early on) and slide guitarist Jeremy Spencer. This lineup changed several times over the next few years, including the addition of guitarist Danny Kirwan, the departure of Green in May 1970 and the addition of John’s wife Christine later that year, and the addition of Bob Welch on guitar after the departure of Spencer in 1971.

Christine McVie always came on like the grown-up in the room, which admittedly might not be hard to do when the room is Fleetwood Mac. But McVie was the emotional glue in a band that has spent the past 50 years breaking up over and over, the most stable, sensible, down-to-earth member of rock’s most unstable, senseless, lost-in-space circus.
