[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS Season 21 Episode 3 “Lifeline.”] Forensic scientist Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover) got more than she expected on Walk-a-Mile Day when NCIS employees swapped jobs. Working in emergency dispatch, Kasie fielded a call from a mysterious field agent in crisis, later identified as Eric Webb (Chris McKenna). He turned out to be at the center of a case involving the potential detonation of a dirty bomb in Washington, D.C. The NCIS agents brought Kaisie in to help get to the bottom of things, which included taking her to the site of a massacre at a CIA safe house. “Usually, we don’t see Kaisie going to the crime scene. Her being on the ground floor of this case shook her in a way that was so exciting for me to get a chance to play,” Reasonover tells us in the newest episode of Case Closed, TV Insider’s NCIS aftershow. “Having...

British filmmaker Dexter Fletcher is fresh off the release of his Apple TV+ crime caper Ghosted, and during a recent interview, Fletcher highlighted what he described as the “comprises” required when developing a project for a streamer.
“You can’t make a film for streaming the same way you do for theatrical,” Fletcher told Alex Zane’s A Trip to the Movies podcast. “There are different metrics and approaches. There has to be, for the very reason that people can turn off very quickly.”
The Rocketman filmmaker continued to say that he had initially planned a long and elaborate opening sequence for Ghosted that involved Ana De Armas driving a car through a mountain in reference to a scene from the 1978 film Foul Play, starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. Fletcher said he took the scene to Apple, who said they understood what he was attempting to create but raised...

Exclusive: Skydance’s spy action comedy Ghosted starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas is the most watched movie debut to date for Apple TV+.
In the pic’s first two days after dropping on April 21 — and we hear viewership has continued to swell into Monday and Tuesday — the Dexter Fletcher-directed movie pulled in 328,500 viewers per Samba TV. That’s more than the first two days of other highly viewed Apple TV+ movies including Finch at 228,500, Spirited at 174,000 Tetris (March 31) at 88,000 and My Mind & Me at 78,100.
The data came from a panel of 3.1M SmartTV households who tuned in for at least one minute. Samba TV’s research panel is balanced and weighted to the U.S. Census (around 112M) across age, gender, ethnicity and household income. Its panel is nearly 100 times larger than Nielsen’s household footprint of 45,000 homes.

Star power is hardly in short supply in Dexter Fletcher’s “Ghosted,” which reunites “Knives Out” co-stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas as a pair of would-be lovers who meet cute, have a great date, and then are torn apart by the revelation that one of them (twist: it’s de Armas!) is an American spy who, understandably, doesn’t really have time for love.
But when Evans’ unlucky-in-love Cole decides to go after de Armas’ Sadie, believing she’s simply on a run-of-the-mill business trip and would welcome his grand romantic gesture. What follows is an action-adventure story with a dash of romance and plenty of big, things-go-boom set pieces, as the pair get pulled into a globe-trotting spy thriller.
But Evans and de Armas aren’t the only big names in the film — it also features everyone from Adrien Brody and Amy Sedaris to Tate Donovan...

Watching Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in the new Apple Original Film "Ghosted," it's hard not to think about the power of truly brilliant screenwriting. Specifically, it's hard not to think about how difficult brilliant screenwriting must be, seeing as it's nowhere to be found here. We have seen Evans and de Armas separately prove themselves to be immensely charming and charismatic performers, and we have seen them bounce off each other with aplomb in the excellent murder mystery "Knives Out," which served as something of a larger breakout role for de Armas and as a reminder that Evans had a lot more depth as a performer than just playing Captain America. They have both been very good before, and they'll hopefully be very good again. As long as they have good scripts, that is, because "Ghosted" sadly ain't it.

Review: Thanks to the blockbuster films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans has become synonymous with Captain America. Through roles in Knives Out and Defending Jacob, Evans has tried to stretch himself beyond the realm of comic books by selecting projects that are nowhere near comparisons to Steve Rogers. With Ghosted, Evans takes on a role that could not be any less like his iconic superhero role while still allowing him to have fun with stunts, spectacle, and a fair amount of comedy. The romantic action comedy has always had a breathlessly eager-to-please, overstuffed quality. You might say it’s a what’s-not-to-like genre. We laugh! With pulses racing! And swoon at the moonstruck chemistry! In a superior rom-act-com, like “Romancing the Stone” or “Out of Sight” or “True Lies” or the new “Murder Mystery” sequel, the action is the romance — it’s how the characters connect. (One way the form extends vintage Hollywood screwball is that it tends to be about couples who so dislike each other that only by joining in death-defying scrapes can they melt the ice.) But then there are movies like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” where the love gets sandwiched between vehicular mayhem so aggressive it’s played for “laughs,” and the too-muchness of the whole thing becomes like one of those fast-food fusion experiments. Sorry, but the movie escapism equivalent of a burger topped with a quesadilla...

We all have a few skeletons in our closets, don’t we? Or in this case, let’s call them ghosts; people (including romantic interests) we have abruptly stopped responding to hoping they’d just disappear without a confrontation.
In actor-turned-director Dexter Fletcher’s spy rom-com “Ghosted”—a cookie-cutter but adequately fun flick that could’ve used some sharpening up on the page—Sadie Rhodes (Ana de Armas) has countless ghosts in her past, and not just the romantic kind. Posing as an art curator but working as a deadly and powerful CIA spy, Sadie simply doesn’t have the time to keep those ghosts alive and well. So, where could her fiery one-night-stand possibly go with Chris Evans’ wholesome Cole, a modest East Coast farmer who still lives at home and has never even left the country before?

If you found yourself craving a full meal of Ana de Armas as a butt-kicking CIA agent after the appetizer serving in No Time to Die, Apple TV+ has got you covered. The Oscar-nominated Blonde survivor plays another unflappable American intelligence agent, as handy with her fists as her guns, in Ghosted, rekindling her Knives Out chemistry with Chris Evans, in amusing fish-out-of-water mode as a farmer unwittingly dragged along on a hair-raising, globe-hopping mission. Dexter Fletcher’s action-adventure rom-com doesn’t break the mold, but it’s fun and flashy enough to grab viewers in significant numbers.
Apple and Skydance have certainly thrown some resources at the glossy production, from the magnetic leads and elaborate action set-pieces right down to the major-name cameos that pop up in humorous guises. The script is the combined effort of seasoned Spider-Man team Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

When Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passed on his shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) in Avengers: Endgame, it brought Captain America’s arc to a well-deserved conclusion. However, fans are eagerly awaiting the inevitable day when Chris Evans returns to play Captain America once again, but it likely won’t be anytime soon.
While appearing on Good Morning America to promote the upcoming release of Ghosted, Chris Evans was asked about a possible return as Captain America. “Oh man, you know, as much as I would love to. That was such a special time in my life,” Evans said. “I’m very precious with the character. That’s the problem. I’m so protective of it. To come back, it would have to be for the right reasons and the right timing. It feels a little too soon. Anthony Mackie is Captain America right now. There’s other stories to tell.

It is a miracle that Dan Harmon's groundbreaking sitcom "Community" lasted more than a half-season on NBC. The series about seven misfits who form a study group at the fictional Greendale Community College was aggressively dense in its world-building and proudly esoteric in its references. How esoteric? In only its second season, the show turned what was set up as a "Pulp Fiction" homage into an invigoratingly cerebral riff on "My Dinner with Andre" provoked by a character's extra work on Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel's "Cougar Town." Not so shockingly, "Community" ranked a dire 138 in the Nielsen ratings that year.
Harmon and a crack staff of writers that included Megan Ganz, Dino Stamatopoulos, Liz Cackowski, Chris McKenna, and Andy Bobrow shredded the outside of the envelope of what was acceptable on a network sitcom. It made "Seinfeld" look like "Full House." Critics and a cult following kept...

Chris Evans falls in love with Ana de Armas after just one date in the new trailer for the Apple TV+ romantic action-adventure film Ghosted. As a “grand romantic gesture,” he flies out to London to surprise her — only to find out she’s actually a secret agent.
In the movie, Evans plays a “salt-of-the-earth” guy named Cole who has a meet-cute first date with de Armas’ Sadie and immediately believes she might be “the one.” Undeterred by dozens of unanswered texts, he resolves not to give up and hops on a flight to England.
It doesn’t take long before he is captured and finds out she’s actually a member of the CIA named “The Tax Man” on the run from Adrien Brody, who sends “every bounty hunter on the continent” after her. “You got me kidnapped and tortured after one date,” Cole complains, to which Sadie retorts...

The trailer for Apple TV's new film "Ghosted" is here, and it looks like another case of a big, splashy, blockbuster-type movie headed straight to the small screen. "Ghosted" stars former Marvel superstar Chris Evans and arguably even-bigger-right-now breakout star Ana de Armas, reuniting post-"Knives Out" for an action-packed rom-com. The movie comes from "Rocketman" director Dexter Fletcher, with a screenplay co-written by the screenwriting teams behind the "Deadpool" movies and recent "Spider-Man" trilogy.
That's a whole lot of star power, and the first trailer for "Ghosted" matches it with just as much firepower, as it features de Armas in gun-toting, badass CIA agent mode while Evans delivers some in-over-his-head everyman schtick. Before it unveils the spy-centric plot of the movie, which is a bit of a Trojan horse here, "Ghosted" offers up a meet-cute between Cole (Evans) and Sadie (de Armas), whom Cole thinks "might be the one.

Cole (Chris Evans) falls deeply in love with Sadie (Ana de Armas) after a romantic date, but after he tells his family about her, thinking she’s “The One,” and tries to reach out to her again for a second date, she doesn’t respond to his texts.
Set to The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” Cole ventures across the pond to find Sadie and confront her about their relationship. He finds out she’s a secret agent by getting tangled up in one of her missions where mysterious men trap him outside a vault and almost torture him with a wasplike creature.

Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for the upcoming rom-com turned thriller “Ghosted,” which stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
The trailer shows Evans’ character Cole certain that Sadie (de Armas) is not just “ghosting” him, or ignoring his texts, after one date. Convinced they are meant to be together, he travels to London in what he hopes to be a romantic gesture, only to discover Sadie is not the person he thought, and is actually part of the CIA. What ensues is a spy-thriller where “action speaks louder than words.”
De Armas joins the film after her recent Oscar nomination for “Blonde.” Her credits also include “Deep Water,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “No Time to Die.” Evans has played Captain America in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as performed in “Before We Go,” “Gifted” and “Playing It Cool.” Evans and de Armas previously acted together in “Knives Out” and “The Gray Man.

On Feb. 7, 2013, after delays and significant drama behind the scenes, Community debuted “History 101,” the first episode of the long-awaited fourth season, and the first under new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port. Fan reaction to the outing was mixed, to put it mildly, while critics were downright savage. Soon enough, cast and crew began to express their misgivings, too. The entire season was later written off in-universe as the result of a gas leak, never to be spoken of again.
Was that a fair assessment, though? Countless other “bad” installments of pop culture have been revisited over the years, only for perceived faults to be found not quite so damning as audiences initially thought. With an entire decade of hindsight and objectivity to reflect upon, was the fourth season of Community really that bad?
Kind of, yeah!
There is, quite simply, something off about the entire season. Guarascio and...

What has made Peter Parker an enduring hero for the last sixty years is that he could be us. He is someone who has great highs and really low low, but strives to do right because that’s the way he was raised. As Peter he is bullied for being shy and withdrawn, for being smart, for not being popular. As Spider-Man, he is belittled, picked on, subjugated to immense criticism and faces impossible odds with regularity.
We root for him because he rarely gives up, always comes back for more, and always tries to make things right. When Peter’s (Tom Holland) secret identity was revealed in Spider-Man: Far from Home we knew this was going to be a new set of obstacles. Spider-Man: No Way Home opens with the world adjusting to the idea that this high school student is a super-hero or menace. We see its impact on him,...

Tom Hardy‘s “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” first linked the Sony-made spinoff to the Tom Holland films with a post-credit scene and was further linked in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” It looks like in an alternate universe that connection might have been stronger in the billon-dollar hit.
‘No Way Home’ co-writer Chris McKenna is detailing the bigger role Hardy’s Venom would have had if two other scenes hadn’t been scrapped from the final version of the superhero sequel.

“It’s a tough year and it keeps getting tougher!” declares visual effects maestro Kelly Port about the quality of films in contention this year for the Best Visual Effects at the Oscars, for which he is nominated for the second time in his career, this time for “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” “It seems like every year you look at the 10 films that had to be narrowed down to five and all were just excellent quality. When I think about it as an academy voter myself, you think,” me muses, “does it look good, does it fit in, is it consistent across the whole film? If it takes you out of the movie, that’s the worst thing that can happen for a visual effect.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Every “Spider-Man” fan has envisioned what it would be like if the three Peter Parkers that have graced movie screens around the world ever met. But for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, actually writing that moment for a global blockbuster took a lot of attempts.
In an interview with IGN, Sommers and McKenna said the most challenging scene to write in “No Way Home” was the moment when the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, met his cinematic predecessors portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Of course, as MCU fans know by now, that meeting comes right after the biggest gut punch of Peter’s life when Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) died in his arms.

Alfred Molina is returning to the Spidey-verse. The actor, who portrayed the evil Doctor Octopus in Tobey Maguire’s 2004 “Spider-Man” sequel, is reprising his role for the third installment of the Tom Holland-led superhero blockbuster.

Sony Pictures is looking for a new superhero franchise that has nothing to do with Spider-Man, Venom, or anything in between. So enters One Punch Man, a popular Japanese manga that is about to get the Hollywood big screen treatment. And if you have any doubt of what that means, know that it’s being produced by Avi Arad of Arad Productions and with a screenplay from Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.
The announcement, which was broken by Variety, revealed the project is getting the high priority treatment at Sony and Columbia Pictures with the aim of birthing a new franchise that is not based on a Marvel Comics character. The series was created by Japanese artist One as a web comic in 2009 before quickly going viral. IndieWire asked Larry Fessenden, actor/producer/filmmaker and founder of indie production outfit Glass Eye Pix to remember fellow filmmaker and long-time playwright Stuart Gordon, best known for his trademark horror offerings “Re-Animator,” “Dagon,” and “From Beyond.” On Tuesday, Gordon died at at age 72.
Like many horror fans of my generation, I saw “Re-Animator” in the theater on the big screen. It was a revelation, so bold and sassy and that Barbara Crampton, whew! The practical effects had such exuberance (talking severed head in a medical tray anyone?) you could sense his history in experimental theater by the way he staged gore gags. “Re-Animator” put filmmaker Stuart Gordon squarely in the company of iconic horror auteurs John Carpenter and George Romero, and it began his life-long affinity for H.P. Now that Deadpool 3 is officially in active development under the Marvel Studios banner, there’s going to be a lot of questions going forward about how Kevin Feige and his team will handle introducing the Merc with a Mouth into the McU. The franchise has always been known for featuring plenty of humor, but outside of Guardians of the Galaxy, none of Marvel’s projects have come anywhere close to using the kind of self-aware, meta humor that Wade Wilson is famous for. And of course, there’s the R-rated elephant in the room.
To put it simply, Deadpool is unlike any other character that they have at their disposal, and given that the first two movies earned over $1.5 billion at the box office, fans will be expecting the third installment to maintain many of the crude, fourth wall-breaking elements that made them so successful in the first place.

Producer Matt Tolmach wasn’t surprised that Sony Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman wanted a sequel to “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.” After all, the film didn’t just open big two years ago this month; its box office take actually increased 38.4% in its second weekend of release — a rare feat for a studio tentpole movie.
But Rothman wanted the sequel, “Jumanji: The Next Level,” for Christmas 2019. That gave Tolmach and Co. a short window to reassemble the movie’s busy stars — including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas — and come up with a storyline that justified the film’s existence.
“We didn’t want to make the sequel because that’s what you do,” says Tolmach. The plot had to be “in keeping with the spirit of the first movie, but at the same time turn it on its ear completely.”

Today’s raucous Vulture Festival La panel featuring the team behind NBC’s meta-comedy Community (2009-2015) was billed as a reunion but the event did not really answer the real “reunion” question — that is, whether the cast and creatives will ever reunite to make a Community movie.
Show creator Dan Harmon and Ep/writer Chris McKenna were joined on the panel by cast members Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, Yvette Nicole Brown and Ken Jeong. At the end of a panel filled with inside jokes and tales about cast members’ favorite episodes, Harmon gave an equivocal — meta — answer to the question of whether the band is ever getting back together again for a feature film.
Harmon called the constant guessing about a future feature “a weird Ouija board thing.” “Who is supposed to say, ‘everyone do this’?” he fretted. “That’s what I’ve always said.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, directed by Jon Watts, is the latest entry to the smash-hit and newly established McU Spider-Man, after his debut in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, and his own standalone film Spider-Man: Homecoming, released a year later in 2017. This film ends ‘Phase Three’ of the Marvel cinematic universe and was originally released only a few months after the storm that is Avengers: Endgame, of which has changed the world of this franchise forever, with Spider-Man: Far From Home taking the brunt of all the emotional fallout. Resulting in a coming of age film that is near enough bliss.

Marvel’s Spider-Man solo movies have always made the most of taking place in the McU. Obviously, Robert Downey Jr’.s Iron Man played a key mentor role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury (or at least his Skrull double) replacing him in Spider-Man: Far From Home. So, it’s been theorized for a while now that another familiar face from the franchise will turn up in Spider-Man 3 as well.
Speaking to our sources recently – the same ones who told us that the Endgame re-release post credits-scene featured the Hulk, Black Mask will be portrayed as gay in Birds of Prey and that the real Mandarin would be the villain in Shang-Chi, all of which we now know to be true – we’ve learned that “another major Avenger” will feature in Spider-Man 3. Stars: Dora Madison, Tru Collins, Rhys Wakefield, Jeremy Gardner, Graham Skipper, Chris McKenna, Rachel Avery, George Wendt, Abraham Benrubi, Mark Beltzman | Written and Directed by Joe Begos
Directed and written by Joe Begos (Almost Human), Bliss follows an artist named Dezzy who is confronted by the biggest block in creativity she’s ever experiences, and so attempts to free herself from this creative cage by doing all she can, taking her on a journey of drugs, sex and murder in the flashy sparkly hallucinatory underbelly of La.
This is one of those films that won’t find a huge audience, but it will find a niche audience who will fall for its gritty artsy nightmare feel, its drug-addled dark atmosphere and its heavy handed and confident style that is entirely its own. The film looks and plays out like an arthouse flick in both tone and performances from its cast.
