Despite one feature film under his belt with 2006′s Land of the Blind (the Ralph Fiennes and Donald Sutherland starrer won the Nicholl Fellowship from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award and landed at Rotterdam, but didn’t gain much traction after that), Robert Edwards isn’t an unknown entity for Sundance programmers. His 2002 docu short, Voice of the Prophet landed at the fest and American Prometheus, a project that hasn’t yet materialized, was awarded a the 2011 Sloan Science-in-Film Initiative Commissioning Grant. It appears that the filmmaker has had several high profile projects that didn’t materialize, but this April, is when he finally got a greenlight. When I Live My Life Over Again sees Christopher Walken, Amber Heard, Kelli Garner, Hamish Linklater, Ann Magnuson and Oliver Platt in a New York city set drama.

And for the final Sundance Film Festival prediction on the 80-list, I’m selecting a film that might have premiered at both Venice and Toronto, but from my notes, has yet to make an appearance on U.S. soil. Apart from 2008′s Wendy and Lucy, Kelly Reichardt debuted River of Grass (1994), Old Joy (2006) and grabbed a Spotlight showing for Meek’s Cutoff in 2011. The Cinedigm folks grabbed Night Moves and planned a Spring ’14 release – perhaps they’ll want to roll it out at Sundance beforehand.
Gist: Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsgaard, this tells the story of three radical environmentalists plotting the explosion of a hydroelectric dam—the symbol of the energy-sucking, resource-devouring industrial culture they despise.
Production Co./Producers: Neil Kopp, Anish Savjani, Chris Maybach, Saemi Kim and Rodrigo Teixeira

Cinedigm has acquired all North American rights to Night Moves, directed by acclaimed American independent filmmaker Kelly Reichardt.
The film, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsgaard, made its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this month followed by a North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival and was recently awarded the Grand Prize at the Deauville Film Festival.
Reichardt’s award-winning films include River Of Grass, Old Joy, Wendy And Lucy and the acclaimed Michelle Williams-starring Western Meek’S Cutoff.
Night Moves is her fifth feature film and tells the story of three radical environmentalists plotting the explosion of a hydroelectric dam—the symbol of the energy-sucking, resource-devouring industrial culture they despise. The suspense-filled film adds a “noir-thriller” to Reichardt’s already impressive and diverse body of work.

It would be the film with the juju in David O. Russell’s zany black comedy that was the toast of the 28th Independent Spirit Awards beating Beasts Of The Southern Wild – its fiercest rival in all major categories. Silver Linings Playbook cleaned up, grabbing Best Feature, Director, Screenplay and Best Actress went to Jennifer Lawrence – the heavy favorite for tomorrow’s Oscar. Fox Searchlight might have grabbed only one award for Beasts in the Cinematography category, but it’s other Sundance pick-up The Sessions managed to nab a pair of acting prizes for Helen Hunt and Oscar snubbed John Hawkes for Best Male Lead. In our favorite grant categories, Adam Leon (Gimme the Loot) nabbed the Someone to Watch Award (last year it went to Mark Jackson), the Piaget Producers Award went to Mynette Louie (she produced Tze Chun’s sophomore film Eye of Winter which we are keeping...

David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" was the big winner at the 28th annual Independent Spirit Awards held in Santa Monica, CA this afternoon and hosted by Andy Samberg. "Silver Linings" took home the Best Feature, Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Director, and Screenplay trophies.
McConaughey, who nearly stole the show in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike," won the Best Supporting Male award for a performance that was largely ignored by the Academy Awards. As Samberg astutely observed, "We've got Matthew McConaughey...Hollywood fuck you!"
Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Female Lead award for "Silver Linings Playbook," while John Hawkes took home the Best Male Lead trophy for "Sessions." His co-star, Helen Hunt, won the Best Supporting Female award.
Michael Haneke's "Amour," a darling of the 85th Academy Awards, deservingly won Best International Film.
The awards show can be seen on IFC tonight at 10 pm (Est).

Today the 2013 Spirit Awards were handed out and it was a dominating effort from Silver Linings Playbook as it won Best Picture, Director (David O. Russell), Actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and Screenplay (Russell). The only award it was nominated for and didn't win was Best Actor where Bradley Cooper lost to John Hawkes for The Sessions, but that's only a minor blip on the radar when you win this big. Among the early awards handed out, Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower won for Best First Feature while Derek Connolly won for Best First Screenplay for the romantic sci-fi film Safety Not Guaranteed. Then the Twitterverse exploded with a Best Supporting Actor win for Matthew McConaughey and his work in Magic Mike, which, for a time, seemed like it may be able to eek into that last Supporting slot at the Oscars. No dice, a Spirit Award it will have to be.

#5. Interior. Leather Bar
Who: While everyone may be familiar with actor/director James Franco, they not be as aware of the filmmaker he’s paired with to direct Interior. Leather Bar, Travis Mathews. With a background in documentary, Mathews professes to use this and his Masters in Counseling Psychology to make films that focus on gay men and intimacy. He already has a series of short films about gay men and bedrooms and a well received 2012 feature film, I Want Your Love to his name.
What: His pairing with Franco on a project aims to recreate the lost 40 minutes of footage that William Friedkin was forced to cut from his controversial 1980 film Cruising.
Where: Franco’s interview also features a clip, while Franco’s co-director posted the trailer on his vimeo channel.

I considered myself a fan of Andrew Dosunmu’s work precisely about ten minutes into his debut feature, Restless City. Workshopped at the 2005 Directors and Screenwriters Labs, it’s been a long time coming for what is his sophomore feature, Mother of George. Examining the interconnectedness between family and home both past and present, I’m thinking that his second collaboration with cinematographer Bradford Young might offer a better visual and narrative balance and a rich tapestry highlighting the immigrant experience. Nominations for the 28th Film Independent Spirit Awards were announced today and were led by Moonrise Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook with five nominations each followed closely by fellow Best Feature nominees Beasts of the Southern Wild and Keep the Lights On as well as Ava DuVernay's Middle of Nowhere, each with four nominations. Richard Linklater's Bernie was the fifth Best Feature nominee while Middle of Nowhere found its four nominations largely in the acting categories with Emayatzy Corinealdi, David Oyelowo and Lorraine Toussant all being nominated and the fourth for the John Cassavetes Award, which goes to the "best" film made for under $500,000. Looking over the list of nominees I can't help but shrug at the screenplay nomination for Ruby Sparks (a film I loathed), but it's nice to see some First Time Feature love for Colin Trevorrow's Safety Not Guaranteed and Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower,...

With all the support Andrew Dosunmu’s Ma’ George received from the Sundance Institute, I think it’s time for the delivery. Known in the labs/formerly titled as “Mother of George,” this 2005 Directors Lab, 2005 January Screenwriters Lab, 2006 Annenberg Film Fellowship Grant and more recently, 2012 Cinereach Project at Sundance Institute Grant recipient technically would have been Dosunmu’s feature fiction debut project, but Restless City (Sundance ’11) came to fruition and ended up being a bijou in the Next section at the fest, and after showcasing that film last year (including the AFI Fest – where we sat down with the helmer), financing and a cast (including Isaach De Bankolé) firmly in place meant that production began and is now firmly in post-production phase. Dosunmu’s savvy Restless City cinematographer Bradford Young once again helps with the cityscape lensing with the Red, and Danai Gurira (Restless City) and drop dead gorgeous Yaya DaCosta...

It’s that time of year for various organizations to recognize some of the best films of 2011. Some of these awards are lesser known, but the Film Independent Spirit Awards, is not one of them. I love this movie! Elizabeth Olsen is poised to receive various acting nominations for her role as Martha. But the entire cast is great, including Oscar-nominee John Hawkes as the cult leader, Patrick. Sarah Paulson is also fantastic as Martha.s sister, Lucy. Watch this film!
In this interview, I talked to Paulson about:
*** Her initial reaction upon reading the script by writer/director Sean Durkin
*** The psychological angle of the film
*** How did she and Elizabeth flesh out their sisters characters?
*** Working with Elizabeth Olsen
*** Her working relationship with John Hawkes
*** The greatest takeaway for viewers
Have Fun!
Here's more info on the movie from Yahoo:
Martha is a young woman rapidly unraveling amidst her attempt to reclaim a normal life after fleeing from a cult and its charismatic leader. Seeking help from her estranged older sister Lucy and brother-in-law, Martha is unable and unwilling to reveal the truth about her disappearance.

[1] Chris Maybach has been enjoying excellent buzz for producing Sundance favorite Martha Marcy May Marlene, but don't think he's been resting on his laurels. Maybach has two more films in post-production -- Sean Baker's Starlet and Andrew Dosunmu's Mother of George -- and is in the process of casting yet another project, which he will direct himself. The new drama, titled The Low Road, follows a young drifter who returns to his hometown and gets wrapped up in a conflict involving two old men on the verge of losing their farm. Maybach told Screen Daily [2] that he has put out offers to Nick Nolte and Tom Waits for the parts of the two older men, though as The Playlist [3] points out, the $1 million budget means that getting both actors may be a bit of a stretch. (Waits has done a song called 'Lowside of the Road [4],' though,...

#47. Martha Marcy May Marlene Director/Writer: Sean DurkinProducers: Josh Mond, Antonio Campos, Chris Maybach and Patrick CunninghamDistributor: Rights Available. The Gist: This tells the story of a young woman rapidly unraveling amidst her attempt to reclaim a normal life. Escaping a harrowing experience as a cult member in rural New York, Martha (Elizabeth Olsen) seeks help from her estranged older sister Lucy (Sarah Paulson), though she is unable and unwilling to reveal the truth about her disappearance. With a mounting sense of dread, Lucy comes to realize that her sister's bizarre behavior may point to something much graver than an idiosyncratic personality. Lost in a post-traumatic torment, Martha's memories trigger the chilling paranoia that her former cult is actively pursuing her. As her reality blurs with delusion, we realize that Martha (cult aliases Marcy May and Marlene) is lost in the eye of an emotional storm much larger than anyone could have suspected.
