Carrie Underwood is the country artist behind Play On, releasing “Cowboy Cassanova” and “Unapologize” in the collection. What made the 2009 album extra special, though, was that it was the songwriter’s “first attempt at love songs.”

After her American Idol run, Underwood burst into the country music scene, releasing hits like “Before He Cheats,” “Cowboy Cassanova,” and “Jesus, Take the Wheel.”
In 2009, Underwood released her full-length album Play On, complete with “Mama’s Song,” “Temporary Home,” and “Look at Me.” Perhaps the most popular song from the collection is “Cowboy Cassanova,” currently holding over 70 million Spotify plays.

The song, titled “Mountains”, was released last month, and in a departure from his parents musical stylings, the song is an atmospheric, R&b-influenced bop.
“I’ve been talking to the mountains/Cause they can’t run away from me, no,” he sings on the track. “They’re confusing all that we know/What’s really going on around us.”
In 2012, when he was just 17, rowan spoke about his musical ambitions, and making sure his work as a budding artist doesn’t get stolen.

Ghostface Killah is set to release NFTs based around previously unpublished lyrics the founding Wu-Tang Clan rapper wrote over 20 years ago.
The latest high profile artist to jump in on the buzzy tech craze, Ghost tells Rolling Stone he was looking back through notebooks of old lyrics — some of them over 20 years old — as he was getting ready for the 25th anniversary of his debut solo album Ironman. He and his team decided those lyrics would be a good foot in the water to determine how the Nft marketplace would fit for him going forward.

Songwriting collaborations are so often portrayed as mystical unions that those of us who aren’t in the room where it happens have to wonder if there aren’t just as many instances where oil and water refuse to mesh. At last, the testiness that can result when writing sessions go south is portrayed on screen in “I’m Going to Break Your Heart,” a documentary about singer-songwriters Raine Maida (of the group Our Lady Peace) and Chantal Kreviazuk, who comprise the duo Moon Vs Sun.
The two escape from L.A. for a songwriting retreat on the French island of Saint Pierre, only to be constantly rubbing each other the wrong way in the collaborative process. That Maida and Kreviazuk are also husband and wife does lend some extra stakes when they battle it out as co-writers: This might be the first marital-drama documentary that has, at its crux,...

Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida and singer-pianist Chantal Kreviazuk were way ahead of the pandemic when it came to testing the limits of their relationship in a confined space. In fact, they documented the complicated process of working creatively as a married couple with the full-length documentary, “I’m Going To Break Your Heart,” and a resulting album under the banner Moon Vs Sun.
The two have been married more than two decades and have three sons. Both accomplished career artists, Maida has sold millions of albums with Canadian band Our Lady Peace, released solo albums and produced other acts, and Kreviazuk has earned numerous gold and platinum awards and written for, or with, such chart-toppers as Kendrick Lamar, Avril Lavigne, Drake, Josh Groban, Pitbull, Kelly Clarkson, and Shakira.

Our lives would suck without Kelly Clarkson. The pop singer known for her powerful pipes was introduced to us in the first season of “American Idol” on Fox in 2002, launching a career that spans the 21st century. She won that competition, but what are the best songs she has recorded since then? Scroll down to see how we rank her greatest hits. Do you agree with our pick for her number-one song of all time?
In the years since Clarkson’s “Idol” coronation, the show has been inconsistent in delivering artists with lasting music careers, though standouts like Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson have also stood the test of time. Clarkson was actually the first “Idol” alum to win a Grammy, claiming Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (“Since U Been Gone”) and Best Pop Album (“Breakaway”) in 2006. She also claimed Best Pop Album for “Stronger” in 2013. And that album’s...

"You get to express your feelings all the time..." Level Film in Canada has debuted an official trailer for an indie documentary titled I'm Going To Break Your Heart, a film about love and the tough relationship between two popular Canadian musicians. Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk have been together for years, and although they've made plenty of music on their own, they haven't worked much together. After nearly two decades and three children, the two have decided to examine their relationship and how they can patch things up. Filmed on France's isolated but very romantic Saint Pierre et Miquelon island in the dead of winter, the documentary immerses viewers in their musical relationship, even as it exposes long-standing wounds and unresolved heartache. Through this process they work to make their first real album together. Official trailer for Annie Bradley & Jim Morrison's doc I'm Going To Break Your Heart,...

"Why is there a soundtrack for everything except the show with music in every single second of it?" So asked "Arrested Development" creator Mitch Hurwitz when he introduced the Arrested Development Band for their record release party in Hollywood last night. Celebrating the release of "At Long Last... Music and Songs from Arrested Development," a 42-song soundtrack from the recently resurrected television show, the party at The Record Parlour put the eclectic group of musicians who churned out more than 80 songs for the beloved comedy front and center. Featuring musicians Louis Price, Gabriel Mann, Steve Mazur (Our Lady Peace), Lucy Schwartz and Michael Jerome (Better Than Ezra), the Arrested Development Band was helmed by the man of the hour, David Schwartz, who served as the soundtrack's composer and bass guitarist. Hurwitz had plenty of praise for Schwartz, calling his work ethic "prolific." "It's hard to express how quickly he did that music consistently,...

Iconic Canadian rockers Great Big Sea played to a large and rowdy Lethbridge crowd this past weekend on October 26th as part of their Xx Tour. The band played a staggering two full sets worth of music in support of their 20 Year Anniversary and greatest hits release album, delivering one of the most memorable concerts I've been to this year. I grew up on Canadian rock music. The Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace, Nickelback (before, you know) and all of that. I was eight years old when Great Big Sea debuted and I quickly became aware of their Irish flavored high energy rock with hits like 'Run Runaway', 'Mari Mac' and 'Ordinary Day'. They were a lot of fun to listen to but I never gave them enough credit for their refined sound. Being such a huge fan of Celtic rock today I can appreciate...

But film isn't the only medium to romanticize the adventures of caped crusaders. For decades, musicians have been belting out tributes to these same super-powered heroes and villains.

“I can’t believe I agreed to this,” Bruce muttered, as he locked the front door of Wayne Manor.
“Hey, Bats!” a cheerful voice exclaimed from behind. Bruce turned.
“Peter,” he grumbled at the young man standing in the driveway. “I told you not to call me that when I’m out of the suit.”
“Sorry, Bats! Forgot,” Peter Parker replied merrily.
Bruce groaned inwardly. Here we go again, he thought. “Peter, what are you doing here?” he asked.
“I came to keep you company on the drive!” said Peter. “Plus, you know… Alfred thought if I didn’t, you might not come.”
“So… you came all the way out here just to turn around and go right back?” Bruce said wryly, walking to the car.

Members of Arcade Fire brought the house -- or at least the garden party tent -- down with both their music and their message at the Artists For Peace and Justice luncheon at the University of Toronto president's estate over the weekend.
As the headliners for Saturday's 3rd annual fundraiser in support of the Artists for Peace and Justice charity - which is currently focused on aid and education for the children of Hait -- Win Butler, Regine Chassagne and Sarah Neufeld from Arcade Fire started their short acoustic set by playing right in the middle of the A-list crowd before taking the stage.

Wow, these two. If Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy are our new American royalty, Nickelback‘s Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne are the Canadian crown prince and princess respectively. They’re…they’re not actually Canadian royalty, are they? That would be too perfect. In case we didn’t already associate the musical couple with the Great White North, Chad gave an People interview today where he made sure to remind us. “We think it’s very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day,” he gushed. “We can’t wait to start our life together.” It’s like if Beyonce and Jay-z got engaged on Independence Day! Then raved about it to People! Of course, the fact Avril and Chad wear their patriotism on their black, shredded t-shirt sleeves is only one example of how deeply Canadian this couple is. In case you need a few more…...

In April, Canada's Our Lady Peace will release their 8th studio album Curve and their first single off of it, "Heavyweight", has a modest music video put together. Perhaps more important, is their upcoming tour which kicks off in about a month starting in (and returning to midway through) Ontario and closing in Seattle. We'll include the dates below, but for now let's get back to "Heavyweight", the video for which, appropriately, puts the lyrics over boxing footage. As videos go, it's quite simple, but then Our Lady Peace have never challenged what a music video can do. Their other recent video, put out in October of last year, focused on the Occupy Wall Street movement (and the others that popped up around the country after that). Footage of protestors is a great background for "Fight the Good Fight", and it's considerably catchier than "Heavyweight", but again it's not the...

Jared Tristan Padalecki was born 19 July 1982 in San Antonio, Texas. Jared is 6' 4" and of Polish descent. He has an older brother, Jeff and younger sister, Megan. Jared attended James Madison High School, San Antonio and in his senior year, he was the Presidential Scholars Program candidate and he and his classmate, Chris Cardeans won the National Forensics League National Championship in Duo Interpretation in 1998. Jared went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude in May 2000. His intention was to study Engineering at the University of Texas. If he wasn't an actor, he wanted to be a teacher just like his mother, Sherri. Sherri teaches Heroes, Myths and Legends at a San Antonio High School, so perhaps Jared was always destined to play some kind of supernatural hero, heartthrob in some show or other. He was best man at his brother's wedding and was at his sister's graduation from Ut- Austin.

It's always a bit of a bummer for kids whose birthdays are so close to Christmas. They always get somewhat shafted on gifts growing up, right? But that probably hasn't mattered in a few years for David Cook, who turns 28 years old today. The man who won the seventh season of "American Idol" (arguably the show's second or third best season ever) has two albums, a bunch of singles and a number of dream collaborations under his belt, and you can be certain he is celebrating this holiday season.
Cook grew up in Missouri and started playing guitar at age 12. He famously had no intentions of auditioning for "American Idol" (he was only going to the auditions as support for his brother (who ironically was not given a pass to the Hollywood round). Happy Canada Day, everybody! Our neighbors to the north are celebrating the uniting of two British colonies plus a British province into a single country called Canada in 1867. Like Independence Day in the United States, Canada Day celebrates the birth of a new nation with fireworks, barbecues, concerts, parades and copious amounts of eating and drinking (probably Molson). Canada is a remarkable country, as they have delightful socialized medicine, a charming separatist movement in the province of Quebec and loads of excellent musical exports, from legends like Neil Young to one-hit wonders like Snow.

Now that Lee DeWyze has become the latest victor on "American Idol," the show has officially crowned nine champions. Though the first few seasons ended with some eclectic choices (Kelly Clarkson, Rueben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Taylor Hicks and the like), the past three seasons have found the show settled into a relatively steady groove. DeWyze, Kris Allen and David Cook — the last three winners — all exist in a very similar idiom, as they are generally pleasant dudes from the middle of the country who have a sort of singer/songwriter kind of vibe. They've all spent some quality time in bars, are humble and came from relatively modest backgrounds. They all have generally pleasant (if unspectacular) voices, and their borrows from modern acts like the Fray, Maroon 5 and John Mayer. Apparently, this is exactly what America wants in its music stars.
But what if you could design the ideal...

Our Lady Peace, who made Billboard Hot 100 debut with their 2002 single "Somewhere Out There", are gearing up to release their new studio effort "Burn Burn" across U.S. on Tuesday, July 21. Commenting on why he steps behind production table instead of hiring longtime producer Bob Rock for the job, Raine said, "I was always involved, even with Bob [who produced 2002's 'Gravity' and 2005's 'Healthy in Paranoid Times']. I'm not a control freak by any means, but I've always had a vision of the music and how it should be." He added, "I do think collaboration is a very important thing. I have a high regard for collaboration. It's just the timing of this, and where I'm at and where the band's at, we're much better served doing it ourselves. It's really exciting.
