Fans of Amy Schumer might be experiencing deja vu now that the comedian is denying accusations that she steals jokes, because she defended herself against similar claims three months ago. Stand-up comics Wendy Liebman, Kathleen Madigan and Tammy Pescatelli recently took to Twitter to complain that Schumer uses other comedians’ jokes in her own act. Schumer responded that she would take a polygraph test to prove that she would never intentionally steal a joke. However, in October, a TMZ crew approached Schumer outside an airport and asked about accusations that she lifted material from late comedian Patrice O’Neal. Back then,...

After a recent video surfaced comparing Amy Schumer's material to other comedians' work, Schumer went on Jim Norton's SiriusXM Radio show today to deny any allegations of joke theft. "I wanted to come and talk to you about [these accusations] and clear my name, because I would never ever do that and I never have," the comedian said, adding that she is "literally going to take a polygraph test and put it on my show this season."The video collects allegations — some of which surfaced this weekend, others older — that Schumer copied material from Patrice O'Neal, Tammy Pescatelli, Kathleen Madigan, and Wendy Liebman. Talking to Norton, Schumer said that she had not seen any of their jokes before she performed her own and that any similarities were a result of parallel thinking, not plagiarism. She previously addressed similarities between O'Neal's punchline and a line from her stand-up special on Twitter last fall.

Kevin Pollak's documentary "Misery Loves Comedy" has a cute pun of a title that also draws attention to the film's primary flaw. Had Pollak just called his first directing foray "My Friends Talk About Comedy" or "White Comedians Love Misery," I probably could have just felt that this was one person polling a bunch of chums on a subject of mutual interest and accepted its limitations. But "Misery Loves Comedy" spends its entire runtime on a series of talking-head interviews with various comedians and on grand pronouncement after another, different variably famous stand-ups keep saying what "comedians" are like and what "comedy" is about. And given the composition of Pollak's panel of experts, I'm afraid that's ludicrous. With dozens of comics participating, the total number of African-American comics featured in the entire documentary? One. Whoopi Goldberg is brought in to summarize one Richard Pryor routine. She does that and nothing more.

Comedian John Pinette was found dead at age 52 in his hotel room in Pittsburg on Saturday, April 5.
According to the medical examiner, Pinette died of natural causes related to “a medical history he was being treated for." According to the New York Daily News, Pinette was being treated for liver and heart disease.
Pinette earned a place in history in 1998 when he appeared as Howie, the victim of a carjacking in the Seinfeld series finale, but he was also a successful and beloved stand-up comedian and was still touring at the time of his death.
Friends and comedians took to Twitter to express their grief over the loss.
The world has lost a truly funny person. Rest in peace John Pinette.

Madigan Again opens up with Kathleen Madigan palling around with Lewis Black, who also introduces her set on stage; the pairing was clearly deliberate. Black is the more famous comedian, and his presence serves to acclimate those familiar with his work to the sensibilities of Madigan. The comparison is apt (they’re both dry and cynical, though perhaps that’s simply a condition of modern comedy) but not perfect (Madigan does not scream and wave her hands throughout her set). Instead, she seems to view the world around her with something closer to bemusement than contempt.

A host of comedians and performers will come together for The Bill Of Rights Comedy Concert benefitting the creation of America’s first monument honoring the Bill of Rights on Sunday, May 13th at Phoenix Symphony Hall in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ron White’s “Tater Salad” story has become something of a comedy legend and if you know him at all, chances are it’s for that story about a drunken response from the past coming back to haunt Ron in the funniest way. It was storytelling comedy like that which made him a comic force to be reckoned with and he has since ridden that hot streak to a number of albums and comedy specials, which has led to his receiving a Uso tour. On that tour he took a bunch of his comedy friends, some of whom are Uso tour veterans themselves, and for one night, their show was broadcast on TV in the form of Ron White’s Comedy Salute to the Troops. It may have a few good laughs but when we get a subpar performance from White and only 7-minute routines from the likes of Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan,...

There are very few female comedians in the world today but funny lady Kathleen Madigan has proven herself to be one of the best and her new stand-up act Kathleen Madigan: Gone Madigan has just been released on Blu-ray.
Madigan is honest and to the point. Although she is a woman, she displays serious proof of having “balls.” Like many great comedians, she is fearless and doesn’t give a crap who she offends. Shot at the Gramercy Theater in New York City, this 64-minute stand-up set is truly, truly funny. The topics Madigan discusses are current and her comedic timing is impeccable.
Veteran comedian and perpetually angry Lewis Black is the opening act for Madigan, giving her a very sweet introduction. We are then taken on a journey into Madigan’s mad world. She starts things off by talking about a New Year’s resolution she hopes to...

Intense & claustrophobic, the film pulls you in right from the start. Ryan Reynolds does an astounding job, giving what I believe to be the performance of his career. While the whole film takes place inside of a coffin, it remains thrilling & exciting to watch the entire time.
The film has a definite Hitchcockian feel to it, and much like it has been said before by other people who have watched the film, Rodrigo Cortés has made a film this is just as astounding as Alfred Hitchcok would have conceived, had he been given this script while he was alive.
I say that this film is definitely worth a viewing, especially if you like Ryan Reynolds. His fantastic acting skills are on full display for you during each and every minute of the picture. It’s a shame he wasn’t nominated for any acting awards for this film, because I believe he earned one.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (20th Century Fox) Sequel to the seminal 1980s film catches up with a weathered, but still determined Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas, who seems to savor every syllable of Allan Loeb and Stephen Schiff’s screenplay) just out of jail and back on the comeback trail. In attempting to repair his relationship with his estranged daughter (Carey Mulligan), Gekko forges a reluctant alliance with her fiancé (Shia Labeouf), himself an ambitious young turk who finds himself seduced by Gekko’s silver tongue and promise of riches. Lifeless film is further evidence of director Oliver Stone’s decline. Once America’s most exciting filmmaker, Stone hasn’t delivered a film with any teeth since 1995’s Nixon. Labeouf and Mulligan generate no sparks on-screen, and the story feels forced from the protracted opening to the final, Disney-esque denouement. Only a brief cameo by Charlie Sheen,...

I'd like to thank all of you who said nice things on Thursday when I told the story of my broken pinkie and thank even more those of you who offered me pain killers. Really, it doesn't hurt that badly most of the time. If I don't think about it. Or move that side of my left hand. Anyway, what's important is that after all the excitement of the Golden Globes I am back to tell you about what boring, ordinary TV you can watch alone with no one to live chat with. Television tonight is Seriously slim pickings so I guess I can let y'all in on the loose details about why I keep referring to an injured hand. Short version: I fell down. Long version: I fell down real hard. What's broken is the proximal phalanx of my left pinkie or, for those of you who don't speak science, the bottom bone in my left pinkie. My X-ray analysis skills have mostly been learned from doctor-ish TV characters, but it looked like the break started on the far left side towards the bottom and went through the bone diagonally. I had thought this would get me some kind of splint but for reasons which are unclear to me, I have a cast covering my arm from a few inches below my elbow to the first knuckle of my left hand that holds my fingers in a curled over position. So! That's why my hand hurts,...
