Prime Video has released the first photos from My Lady Jane, the quick-witted romantic new series set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world. The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, June 27, in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Inspired by the best-selling book, My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband, Guildford.
At the center of this rollicking new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.

Ridley Scott has found the composer for his upcoming “Gladiator” sequel.
Harry Gregson-Williams has been hired to score the hotly-anticipated Paramount feature, which is due out Nov. 22, more than 24 years after the Oscar-winning original.
The film marks the seventh collaboration between Scott and Gregson-Williams, with the composer having penned the scores for “The Martian,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” “The Last Duel” and “House of Gucci”, as well as composing themes for “Prometheus” and “Exodus: Gods and Kings.” Other credits for Gregson-Williams include “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” “The Meg,” “Mulan,” “The Gilded Age,” “The Equalizer,” “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,” “The Chronicles of Narnia” and all four “Shrek” films.
In something of nice twist, Gregson-Williams also spent many years early in his career as a protégé of Hans Zimmer, who was the composer on the first “Gladiator” (and landed an Oscar nomination for his work).

When it comes to the road to blockbuster glory, some projects are willed, some happen instantaneously, while others go through a long development hell. That’s just what happens when you’re working toward what’s hopefully a billion-grossing title.
In the case of Mattel’s Barbie, it was a 14-year journey that began at Universal. It stands to reason that the toy company would be fiercely protective about a feature take on its 64-year-old doll that generates a reported $3 billion annually in revenue. The product first conceived as America’s Sweetheart has evolved with changing times, switching up her stereotypes and outfits from prom queen to flight attendant to Mad Men secretary to astronaut. A doll that was deemed iconic in the 1970s-era of pinups like Loni Anderson and Farrah Fawcett endured a backlash when critics deemed her an inappropriate role model for young girls. This, despite Mattel pushing...

Barry Keoghan, the Oscar-nominated actor who is right at home in a good period piece, is in talks to join Paul Mescal in Ridley Scott’s untitled Gladiator sequel, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Scott is directing the sequel to his 2000 historical epic that starred Russell Crowe as Maximus, a former general forced into becoming a gladiator under the rule of the patricidal self-appointed Roman emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). The movie won the Oscar for best picture, while Crowe took home the statuette for best actor, among the five wins for the lauded movie. Neither Crowe’s nor Phoenix’s character survived the proceedings.
The sequel will star Aftersun Oscar nominee Mescal, who is said to be playing Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the nephew of Phoenix’s Commodus. (Spencer Treat Clark played the role in the original film.)
If a deal makes, Keoghan will play a character named Emperor Geta.

Keanu Reeves has faced many villains in his career. He’s battled Agent Smith and the simulation itself in the Matrix series. Every John Wick movie has a new villain for him. In Speed, it was Jack Traven (Reeves) vs. bomber Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper). Originally, the Speed villain was Jack’s partner Harry (Jeff Daniels).

Speed screenwriter Graham Yost was on the Script Apart podcast on Aug. 17, 2021 to discuss his earlier drafts of the film. Yost explained how Harry would have worked as a villain, and why they changed it in later drafts.
The original ‘Speed’ script pit Keanu Reeves against a disgruntled partner
Yost’s first draft of Speed began the same way, with Harry and Jack working an elevator bombing. In the previous version, Harry became disgruntled and disillusioned after act one.

Rocket Science has boarded the biopic “The Good Spy,” about CIA operative Robert Ames, from Oscar-nominated “Paradise Now” and “Omar” director Hany Abu-Assad.
The pic is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Kai Bird’s biography of Ames. Scott Frazier (“Berliner”) is adapting for screen.
“Free Solo” and “Everest” producer Evan Hayes will produce under his Ace (Anomaly Content & Entertainment) production company. Laurie MacDonald and Walter Parkes will executive produce with Frazier, while Bird will act as a consultant on the project.
Rocket Science is financing the film and will co-represent worldwide sales with CAA Media Finance.
Said Abu-Assad: “When Robert Ames moved deeper into the life of Ali Hasan Salameh, a prominent Plo member, he realizes that not only is he crossing the line between the CIA and being involved in his enemy’s cause, but the friendship between the two men leads to a certain threat to the establishment of both sides.

Streaming giant Netflix has set an Oct. 16 launch date for Aaron Sorkin’s star-studded political drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7” — three weeks before the national election.
Netflix closed the deal on July 1 with Cross Creek Pictures for the drama, which recaps the trial that followed what were intended to be peaceful protests that turned violent at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The organizers of the protest, including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale, were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot.
Netlix also released first-look photos on Wednesday on Twitter, noting the “big hair energy” on several of the stars. Mark Strong’s Jerry Rubin character appears to be smoking marijuana in a classroom in one shot.

Netflix has set an October 16 streaming date for Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, its $56M global pickup from Cross Creek, in what looks to be the first of its 2020-21 awards season contenders.
Paramount, which first had distribution rights to the movie, was eyeing a fall platform release, initially with a limited debut of September 25, then an expansion on October 9 and a full wide release of October 16 — hence Netflix’s drop date keeps with what was originally planned for theatrical prior to this year’s U.S. presidential election.
Cross Creek still is co-producing the film with Netflix.

In late 1972, a writer called Cameron Crowe rang the offices of Rolling Stone with a scoop about Bob Dylan. They ran the story. What no one in the office realised, though, was that the author was only 15. Within two years, this precocious teenager from San Diego had become the youngest person ever to write a cover feature for the magazine, and was following bands from The Who to Led Zeppelin on tour, a buoyant insider high on the fumes of their jet-set lifestyle.
If this sounds like the plot of a film, that’s because it is. Almost Famous, released on 13 September 2000, was written and directed by that same Cameron Crowe, by then a household name thanks to his Oscar-winning drama Jerry Maguire (1996). Loosely based on Crowe’s own teenage adventures in rock journalism, Almost Famous is set in 1973 and follows his alter ego William Miller, a cherubic young writer...

Netflix is negotiating a deal to acquire global rights to Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7” from Cross Creek Pictures, Variety has learned.
The film follows the Chicago Seven, a group of seven activists who were charged by the federal government with conspiracy, inciting to riot and other charges stemming from anti-Vietnam War protests that broke out during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Intended as peaceful protests, they instead devolved into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest included Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale, and their trial was one of the most notorious in history. It’s a hot-button story, one that is sure to resonate in a presidential election year and at a time when protests over racial injustice are breaking out across the country. Cross Creek financed and produced the film.

Gladiator recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. In fact, the movie was even set to return to theaters to celebrate the occasion until the pandemic happened and plans were cancelled. But still, it seems we may not’ve seen the last of the franchise, as sequel talks have been taking place.
Despite coming out in the summer, the Ridley Scott epic went on to win Oscars for Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe. It was also the fourth highest-grossing movie of 2000 and spawned a slew of swords-and-sandal films such as Troy, Alexander, and Kingdom of Heaven. Of course, Crowe’s character, Maximus, died in the end, but there’ve been rumors for years now of a Gladiator 2 script doing the rounds.
While not much is known about it, producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald revealed in November of 2018 that they were definitely planning a sequel and though...

Exclusive: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have hired well regarded production executive Aditya Sood to become head of film for their Lord Miller banner. The move to secure the former Genre Films president comes at a key moment for filmmakers coming off the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Later this month, they will meet with all the major studios before deciding where to make their first overall movie deal. This comes after the duo set their TV operations at Sony Pictures Television in an epic-sized five-year deal last April.
Sood’s challenge will be to lead their motion picture group ambitions, with an emphasis on developing original and existing IP projects and championing fresh voices. Sood will lead a motion picture group staff that includes longtime film executives Will Allegra and Rebecca Karch who have been upped to Senior Vice President and Vice President, respectively.
The Sood hiring seemed destined to happen at some point.

In case you forgot, it was announced late last year that there’s a sequel in the works to the Oscar-winning hit from 2000, Gladiator, with Ridley Scott meant to return as director and Peter Craig on the script. Nothing new about the movie has been announced or discussed, but producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald have come out to remind us the plans…...

With sequelitis in full swing at the domestic box office before Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4 changes that course, Sony is plotting for its responsibly-budgeted reboot of Men in Black: International to carry the load exactly there — overseas. Currently, industry estimates are now at $30M in U.S. Canada at 4,200 theaters and $70M-$85M overseas. Total global launch is between $100M-$115M. China should match the U.S. opening and hopefully U.S. doesn’t fall lower as tracking for fanboy IP has been greatly over-inflated in recent weeks. Previews start at 4Pm in the U.S. at 3,500 sites. Mib 4 will also play in Imax.
Sony releases Mib 4 around the world beginning today, notably in France and Korea. Through Friday, the film will be in 56 markets repping 92% of its offshore footprint and excluding Indonesia, Netherlands, Italy and some smaller hubs which will go later. The big question being with...

“Gladiator 2” was first announced in November 2018, and producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald assure fans of the swords-and-sandal action movie that a follow-up is still gearing up for production. The producers were asked by HeyUGuys about the next “Gladiator” installment and revealed, “We’re working with Ridley. That’s one we wouldn’t touch unless we felt in a way to do it was legitimate. We’re working with an amazing writer as well — Peter Craig.”
Parkes added an intriguing new detail about the script: “It picks up the story 30 years later…25 years later.”
The original report on “Gladiator 2” mentioned the sequel would focus on Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen’s character Lucilla from Scott’s original film. Lucius is the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus, the Roman leader killed by Russell Crowe’s Maximus. Crowe’s character died at the end of the first...

Late last year it was reported that director Ridley Scott was going to move forward with Gladiator 2. This project is still in active development and today we have new details to share with you.
It’s kind of crazy that we are actually getting a sequel to this movie almost 20 years after the first movie was released. According to producer Walter F. Parkes, the story for the sequel will pick up “ 30 years later… 25 years later.” Three decades after the death of Russell Crowe’s character Maximus.
Maximus will not be in the movie, obviously. But fans still think it’s an odd choice to make a sequel to the movie. In regards to that, producer Laurie MacDonald says that nobody would be moving forward on the project if they didn't think there was a great way to do it:

Ever since Gladiator hit theaters nearly twenty years ago, rumors have swirled that a sequel to Ridley Scott’s surprise hit is in the works. It’s easy to imagine why, too, as the film raked in massive cash at the box office and was nominated for 12 Academy Awards, taking home five including Best Picture. Finally, after over a decade of gestation, Scott revealed last year that he was all set to return to Gladiator 2, and now we have our first details about its story.
During a press junket for Men In Black: International, producers Walter F Parke and Laurie MacDonald revealed exactly what we can expect from the sequel:
“We’re working with Ridley. That’s one we wouldn’t touch unless we felt in a way to do it was legitimate. We’re working with an amazing writer as well – Peter Craig.”

It’s been two decades since we first dipped into the world of Men in Black, and now, in 2019, it’s been completely revamped with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in the leading roles. But there is one major consistency within this franchise, which is the producing team of husband and wife Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald – and to celebrate the release of this new production, we spoke to the pair all about the allure of this cinematic property.
We talk about the challenges in creating something new while still adhering the imprint of the preceding features, and on the excellent chemistry between the leading duo. They also comment on the changes they’ve seen within the industry between this film and the first, while we also touch upon the forthcoming Gladiator sequel, as they confirm to us when that exciting film will be taking place.
