In November 2018, the seventh deadliest wildfire in US history ripped through California and destroyed the entire town of Paradise, along with numerous other homes. A combination of wind changes and unexpected behaviour on the part of the fire meant that evacuations happened only at the last minute and many people who had thought themselves safe abruptly faced danger. Given the location of this event, it embedded itself deep in the psyche of many in he state’s filmmaking community. Five years later, Peter Facinelli and Nick Lyon’s film attempts to capture something of the experience of those directly involved.
Facinelli plays Dave, a construction company owner who lives in a comfortable woodland trailer home with his father George (Lance Henriksen), teenage son Clay (Asher Angel) and wife Sarah (Fiona Dourif), who is eight months pregnant. And yes it's due to climate change and negligence, and we need to do more. Based on real events, On Fire follows a family who lives in a trailer home in the woods when they are suddenly confronted by a wildfire. Survival becomes their main objective. With precious moments ticking by, Dave must flee with...

Thursday is D-Day, the 75th anniversary of the day when Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, to fight the Nazis in World War II. To commemorate the memory of those lost there, Cinedigm is releasing a feature film with a handful of actors who know a thing or two about fighting.
“D-Day” stars Mma fighters Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture (Couture is also a former U.S. Army Sergeant) alongside Weston Cage Coppola (Nicolas Cage’s son) and Jesse Kove in their action-heavy take on the Battle of Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.
“These beaches are vital to winning this war. Thousands of lives depend on it,” Liddell says in the trailer.

Just getting to one of the locations of BBC America wildlife documentary series “Dynasties” — presented by David Attenborough and following the lives of endangered animals — requires an 11-hour flight from London to Johannesburg, a two-hour connection to Harare, Zimbabwe, an hourlong chartered Cessna 206 trip to Mana Pools National Park airstrip and an hour’s drive to the banks of the Zambezi River.
Imagine the logistics of making the trek with 50 bags of gear.
Difficulties abound. Authorities will “go through every single piece of equipment, every battery you have, to match serial numbers,” says Nick Lyon, director of the series’ “Painted Wolf” episode. He adds that producers need to be aware of certain restrictions, including the prohibition of camera equipment of American military origin.
Lyon and executive producer Mike Gunton were not allowed to bring in the latest HD thermal cameras, which they were going to use for night shoots. Instead,...

Z Nation, Season 1, Episode 10, “Going Nuclear”
Written by Michael Cassutt
Directed by Nick Lyon
Airs Fridays at 10pm Est on Syfy
There have been some problems with the last few episodes in Z Nation’s first season. Due to an overwhelming feeling that the writers wanted to take the show into too many different directions, there is a lack of cohesiveness that can be jarring for the viewer. Fortunately, after several meager installments, “Going Nuclear” is entertaining and chock full of everything exploitative and ridiculous, elements that made the first few episodes so good. This episode is a great example of exactly where the show should aim, as far as a balance between drama and action is concerned. It manages to present compelling moments for its characters, but avoids any feeling of being too dramatic. In a universe where sensational violence is key, the scale is levelled with plenty of zombie guts and gore.

Mark Kermode: Danny Trejo's ballsy cop takes the law into his own hands in this unremarkable crime movie
Making a fleeting pass through cinemas en route to its natural home on DVD (it hits the shelves tomorrow), this meat-and-potatoes fare from B-movie stalwart Danny Trejo made trade-paper headlines last October when director Nick Lyon got into a legal battle with Robert Rodriguez's American United Media over ownership of the film. Such off-screen dramas are the only remarkable thing about a movie otherwise notable for its singular lack of distinguishing features. Trejo plays a ballsy cop who takes the law into his own hands (stop me if you've heard this one) when his grandson is kidnapped by drug dealers attempting to prevent the execution of their leader. The Grand Budapest Hotel | 300: Rise Of An Empire | Wake In Fright | Paranoia | The Stag | Escape From Planet Earth
The Grand Budapest Hotel (15)
(Wes Anderson, 2014, UK/Ger) Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, F Murray Abraham, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan. 100 mins
You wonder how long Anderson can keep accumulating star actors and creating ever more elaborate microcosms but, judging by this, he's a long way from running out of steam. It's a witty caper-within-a-reminiscence-within-a-flashback set in interwar Europe, through which Fiennes's debonair concierge must flee, protege lobby boy in tow, after an heiress's murder. It's breathlessly paced and breathtakingly designed, but with a solid core – like a fancy cake with an iron file concealed inside.
300: Rise Of An Empire (15)
(Noam Murro, 2014, Us) Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro. 102 mins
With the bar for violent historical silliness raised by Game Of Thrones, this sequel pitches recklessly into another orgy of fetishised classical warfare with comic-book effects.

Seasoned actor Danny Trejo has reinvented himself as the titular role in the Machete franchise, a series of films that ridicule B-movie, action flicks. However, despite evidently aware of the flaws and limitations of the genre, he’s now turned up in Nick Lyon’s Bullet, a film that is identical to those of which are being mocked in the aforementioned parody series.
When a dangerous criminal is on the verge of being executed by the death penalty, his father Carlito Kane (Jonathan Banks) is determined to put a stop to it – and so sets his sights on the law enforcer who arrested his son in the first place, which happens to be Frank Marasco (Trejo), a tough, uncompromising cop affectionately known as Bullet. With his trusty henchman Kruger (Torsten Voges) by his side, Kane kidnaps Bullet’s grandson, in the attempt to blackmail the cop – who has other plans up his sleeve.

Nick Lyon, the director of the forthcoming film, Bullet, isn't happy that Robert Rodriguez' American United Media (Aum) and FUNimation Entertainment have taken the film away from him. But a judge has ordered an injunction against his interference in the completion of the film, and now Lyon is taking the dispute to an appeals court. Bullet is a film that stars Danny Trejo (Machete, Breaking Bad) as a cop who takes the law into his own hands when his grandson is kidnapped. Rodriguez is a producer. Lyon (Punk Love) signed on to write and develop the project in September 2012.

Yep, Danny Trejo plays one hell of an angry cop in Nick Lyon‘s upcoming action thriller Bullet. But we forgive him, ’cause in case you’re not so familiar with the plot – his grandson is kidnapped by some sick bastards, so (quite logically) – he decides to take the law into his own hands. Head inside to check him out, and don’t forget: don’t mess with the wrong guy! Nick Lyon directs the movie (currently in post-production) from a script he co-wrote with Ron Peer, and the whole thing revolves around Trejo’s character – an undercover cop named Frank Bullet who takes on a ruthless...

Director:Nick Lyon. Writers: Keith Allan and Delondra Williams. Cast: Mariel Hemingway, Chad Lindberg, LeVar Burton, Heather Hemmens and Danny Trejo. Rise of the Zombies had such a great title, but so little substance. This film aired on the SyFy Network Saturday, October 27th and Rise of the Zombies is big on laughter but light on thrills. This viewer laughed at all of the forced sentimentality and at all of the predictable situations until the film threatened a sequel. Then, this viewer's mood became more serious and angrier. Please do not let this film see a sequel! Director Nick Lyon's (Zombie Apocalypse) latest flesh eating film is just too full of one shot takes, CGI backgrounds and pointless meanderings from the characters to recommend even to fans of the campy. The story, such as it is, follows several survivors of a zombie apocalypse on Alcatraz Island. In San Francisco,...

Tagline: "When the odds are 4 Billion to 4, the only thing to do is...reload!" Director Nick Lyon returns to the zombie horror genre with Rise of the Zombies! Lyon also produced Zombie Apocalypse (2011) for production company The Asylum. Zombie Apocalypse turned out to be a decent film that was action focused and tense. The first trailer for Rise of Zombies appears to be equally tense. In the clip, a group of survivors hold up at the Alcatraz Prison in the wake of an undead pandemic. Their life is peaceful for only so long, however. Soon, the zombies are at their cell doors and they have to evacuate to the mainland or die. Have a look at the exciting clip below.
