Many viewers noticed something was off during Saturday’s episode of “Justice With Judge Jeanine,” particularly host Jeanine Pirro’s disheveled appearance and slurred speech at times. However, a Fox News spokesperson said that “technical difficulties” marred the show’s first at-home broadcast.
“Jeanine Pirro was broadcasting from her home for the first time when she encountered several technical difficulties which impacted the quality of her show, including the loss of a teleprompter. As we have previously said, we are operating with a reduced staff working remotely to ensure the health and safety of our employees in these unprecedented times,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Variety.

Fox News on Sunday issued an explanation for Saturday’s episode of “Justice With Judge Jeanine,” which was marred by “technical difficulties” and the appearance of host Jeanine Pirro, whom many viewers thought seemed disheveled and perhaps even tipsy.
“Jeanine Pirro was broadcasting from her home for the first time when she encountered several technical difficulties which impacted the quality of her show, including the loss of a teleprompter,” a Fox News spokesperson said in a statement. “As we have previously said, we are operating with a reduced staff working remotely to ensure the health and safety of our employees in these unprecedented times.”
An individual close to the network “absolutely” denied that Pirro was drunk and said the former prosecutor does not even drink alcohol.

Was a Disheveled Judge Jeanine Pirro Tipsy After Fox News Show Delayed for ‘Technical Difficulties’?
Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News show got a late start on Saturday night due to “technical difficulties” — but when the former New York state judge did appear nearly 15 minutes into her show, her usually perfectly coifed hair appeared disheveled and she seemed to many viewers to be tipsy in her verbal delivery.
“We apologize for the technical difficulties,” Pirro said when she finally appeared about a quarter into the one-hour broadcast after anchor Jackie Ibanez covered for her initial absence.
Pirro’s speaking was notably loose throughout the broadcast — which a network spokesperson attributed to the lack of a teleprompter in the host’s first broadcast from home. “Just the other … day the president talked, or was hoping, about the possibility of reopening everything on Easter Sunday, uh, in a way where we could kind of come out of this quarantine, as loose as it may be, that we’re involved in,...

“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski became the target of online outrage after she criticized tennis star Serena Williams’ on-court behavior during Saturday’s U.S. Open final loss to Japan’s Naomi Osaka.
“I’m really getting sick of the racial insensitivity,” one commenter wrote after Brzezinski weighed in on the matter Monday, noting the moment Williams threw her racket onto the ground during the match and received one of three penalties from chair umpire Carlos Ramos.
“Personally, I don’t think that’s becoming, whether a man does it or a woman does it,” Brzezinski said.

Some experts said the ump overplayed his hand, meanwhile many online detractors suggested the calls against the African-American tennis pro stemmed from racial insensitivity or even sexism.
But Brzezinski told her co-host Joe Scarborough, “The entire thing was extremely personal.

A story in the New York Post’s Page Six said an “inappropriate relationship” between the pair prompted NBC to shift Morales to “Access Hollywood.” But both Morales and Lauer have forcefully denied any affair. New York Daily News has begun a new round of layoffs that will send one of America’s premier sports columnists out the door. Mike Lupica, a legendary sports columnist and media personality, was not able to come to terms on a new contract with the paper, Politico reported. Sports editor Teri Thompson also got the ax. There’s no word on the number of layoffs, but they’ll be company-wide instead of restricted to the editorial staff. For Lupica, it’s a double whammy: He recently lost his Espn Radio show in New York. During the Espn anniversary year that launched the "30 for 30" documentary series, one of the most interesting things about the films was how little they resembled one another. All were about sports (mostly), and all were about things that happened during the first 30 years that Espn was in business, but beyond that they felt completely distinct from one another, whether the narration-less video collage of "June 17, 1994," the kinetic energy of "Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks," or the mournful quality of "The Two Escobars." As Espn has kept the series alive well past that anniversary year — including the brief stint when new films were presented under the "Espn Films Presents" banner — certain formulas have crept in, particularly when it comes to films about iconic teams. They're still fun, still full of great archival footage and wonderful memories from the team members in present-day, but movies like "The Fab Five,...

Family, friends and fans celebrated the memory of Elmore Leonard with tears, laughter and military honors at a memorial Saturday in Birmingham, Mich. He was 87. His longtime friend, sportswriter Mike Lupica, and Timothy Olyphant, star of the FX TV series "Justified" – which is based on Leonard's works -- were among the roughly 325 people that gathered, according to the Detroit...

I’m starting a week off today, and woke up to the depressing news that the great Detroit author Elmore Leonard has died at 87. Like so many who push words around for a living, even if it is in a much inferior fashion, I was in awe of Leonard’s ability to write as only he could. He just made you want to try harder, no matter what kind of writing you did. You could go back to the likes of Mickey Spillane and Raymond Chandler, but I’m hard pressed to think of a crime fiction author who influenced so many. I swear that after a Leonard book came out, I could feel the influence even on daily journalists who read him. For instance, I read sports columnist Mike Lupica all the time and noticed after every Leonard book came out, Lupica would temporarily incorporate Leonard’s penchant for starting sentences in odd places,...

Larry David has revealed that he loves working with his Curb Your Enthusiasm cast and crew. The comedian told Espn Radio New York host Mike Lupica that he can barely keep a straight face while filming scenes on Curb Your Enthusiasm. "Well, I've always had fun doing the show, and I guess that's why I keep doing it after eight years," David said. "It's hard for me to do a take without laughing really." Previous seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm have been focused on Larry's possible adoption and a fictional Seinfeld reunion, but David insists that the success of the show's eighth run may be due to a lack of any story arc. "If I could point to one thing it's probably that we don't have a (more)...

Any number of critics might have some cred when it comes to throwing the penalty flag at a comic who crosses the line into offensive bad taste (as compared to those juvenile exhibitions of bad taste that we all know and cherish, from Mad magazine to Curb Your Enthusiasm), but Mike Lupica of the Daily News isn't that breed of cat. Anyone who has been a personal pal of Don Imus and a regular guest on Imus in the Morning for decades is petty much disqualified from getting all huffy-prissy-frowny beetle-browed ponderific over Wanda Sykes' standup routine at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Lupica has heard a lot crasser stuff on Imus's show over the years from fellow Imus troupers Bo Dietl, Sid Rosenberg, and Bernard McGirk, and didn't, as I recall, adopt a scolding tone after Imus himself lewded up at a Wash DC press bash in 1996 in...

New York -- Screenwriter William Goldman and sports writer Mike Lupica are combining forces for the first time on a young adult novel.
The Philomel Books tome will center on a boy who discovers a secret power and hero within himself when family tensions push them to the surface.
The untitled novel is set for publication in 2010. A rep for Penguin imprint Philomel says the collaboration "will have all the hallmarks of (Goldman's) magic realism and (Lupica's) heartwarming tales of the underdog."
In addition to his New York Daily News sportswriting, Lupica has written several young adult bestsellers. Goldman's novel "The Princess Bride," which he adapted for the screen, has sold three million copies.
The deal was brokered by Philomel publisher Michael Green (who will edit the novel) with Icm.
