A new episode of the Revisited video series has just been released, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie that some may not consider to be a horror movie, but at the very least it is an “experimental psychological thriller” from a highly respected genre director. The director in question is David Lynch, and the movie we’re talking about today is the 2006 release Inland Empire (get it Here). To revisit Inland Empire with us, check out the video embedded above.
Written and directed by Lynch, Inland Empire tells the following story over the course of its 180 minute running time: Nikki, an actress, takes on a role in a new film, and because her husband is very jealous, her co-star Devon gets a warning not to make any romantic overtures — especially since the characters they play are having an affair. Both actors learn that the project...

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. What's an FBI Special Agent to do after being locked away for 25 years in unearthly purgatory? Episodes three and four of Mark Frost and David Lynch's revived Twin Peaks, which aired on Showtime this past Sunday in a two-hour block (aside from September's two-part finale, it's all single, hour-long episodes from hereon out), follow our besuited, Black Lodge-incarcerated hero Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) as he reintegrates into modern terrestrial society. So this is basically Peaks doing Rectify, just with a sterile death row replaced by an infernal hellscape out of Clive Barker. Or David Lynch, really. What's becoming more and more evident as the new Peaks progresses is that the series is, in large part, a repository for Lynch's subconscious, past and present.

"Nikita" is back after the holiday hiatus, and it seems we're getting a present in the form of smoking hot men and some serious butt-kicking action. This week Michael (Shane West) and Owen (Devon Sawa) team up together on a mission to find out Percy's (Xander Berkeley) plan with the Guardians, sending them on an investigation. In the clip, the two have a wild battle in an alley. Those boys are so pretty ...
Oh, right, other things happen. Ahem. Alex's (Lyndsy Fonseca) mission to take down Gogol reaches a tipping point as she infiltrates her childhood home and faces her past. On a completely separate mission, Nikita (Maggie Q) also ends up at the mansion to steal Semak's (guest star Peter J. Lucas) black box. Nikita and Alex run into each other and decide to join forces, but they run into a major roadblock.

"Nikita" won't be new this coming Friday because of Thanksgiving, but we've got a preview to tide you over until it returns with it's mid-season December 2nd.
In "Guardians," Michael (Shane West) is away, so Nikita (Maggie Q) turns to Owen (Devon Sawa) to help her make a play for another black box from a Guardian. Owen, however, is working for someone who could throw a wrench in her plans. Amanda (Melinda Clarke) figures out that Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca)'s juicy info about Semak (Peter J. Lucas) must have come from Percy (Xander Berkeley).
In this clip, we see Nikita hoping to stop Alex before she destroys herself in an attempt to get Semak. So, go enjoy your tryptophan-fueled, post-turkey naps this week and prepare yourselves for a heart pounding episode on December 2nd.

In an effort to mix things up a bit, I’ve tried to do some searching to find random oldies, but goodies. I’ll try to keep doing this in the future so these weekly link roundups don’t start to get stale.
First, I dug up an interesting, older article by longtime underground film writer Fred Camper about the problems naming the avant-garde, experimental, underground, etc. He also comes up with a six-part “test” to determine if a film is underground or not. And, yes, there’s lots of hostility to the term “underground,” but, obviously, it’s what I personally go with. On the other hand, there’s this cute attempt at underground film history. Back in 2002, Gary Morris wrote an interesting appraisal of Andy Warhol’s Chelsea Girls for Bright Lights Film Journal. The Los Angeles Times reports that Charles Manson follower and convicted murderer Bobby Beausoleil,...

The Alamo Guide
for January 21st, 2010
I would just like to inform the general public that after the Alamo Iron Chef show last night, our own John Bullington came out the victor! However, Parkside still remains delicious. They have some wicked seared foie gras that I can’t seem to stop ordering everytime I go there.
We’ve got a whole buncha goodies coming up this week! First of all, A Town Called Panic finally opens this Friday, and we’ve been waiting for the day every since we saw it at Fantastic Fest. It’s a great time so def check it out if you can. Also, if you’ve been following this whole Leno vs. Conan debacle, you may be interested to know that we’re showing the Final Episode Of The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien. We’re definitely Team Coco. Our Valentine’S Day Feasts are selling strong,...
