Joe Loss

Bandleader from 1930 right up to the end of the 1980s. Much seen on British TV and made many radio appearances for the BBC.
Recorded in the UK the song: "Mockin' Bird Hill" by Vaughn Horton.
Studied violin at the Trinity College of Music and the London College of Music.
At the age of twenty-one, Loss became the youngest bandleader on the scene, opening at London's Astoria Ballroom in September 1930.
Was awarded an OBE in 1978 for services to music.
Vera Lynn made her first broadcast with Loss in 1935.
His theme song was the Glenn Miller hit "In the Mood". Loss had previously used "Let's Dance at the Make-Believe Ballroom".
