The careers of New Jersey-born actor Danny Lopes and writer/director Dante Tomaselli have been closely linked ever since Tomaselli got his hands on a camera. Lopes made his acting debut in Tomaselli’s first effort, 1999’s Desecration, and the actor has appeared in all of the Jersey auteur’s films since then—Horror, Satan’S Playground (pictured) and the upcoming Torture Chamber (see previous item here). With a recent move to La (though he will remain bicoastal), Lopes continues to spread his creative wings, producing and starring in a new slasher opus called The Locals (no relation to the New Zealand film of the same name; see teaser poster below and previous story here). Lopes tells Fango all about his latest screen stints, beginning with his collaborations with Tomaselli.

Danny Lopes From WetWork Media and Clearwater Productions comes "The Locals". With The Locals, producers intend to reach out to horror fans of all ages. The Locals will play up to the moderness of the "found footage" horror sub-genre whiles seamlessly incoporating an 80's slasher angel with some cannibalism that harkens back to the popularity of this sub-genre in the 70's. The Locals will also play up to urban legends and tale talls while capturing the fondness some fans share for the VHS camcorder style of horror all in a cohesive narrative. In the process, The Locals is bound to give each different type of horror fan something to look forward to.

Dante Tomaselli is the director behind such films as Horror, Satan's Playground, Desecration and the upcoming Torture Chamber. He has worked with such legendary actors as Felissa Rose, Edwin Neal, Lynn Lowry, Vincent Pastore and Ellen Sandweiss. As a director in the horror genre, Dante Tomaselli stands out as the artistic visionary. Each of his films have a strong, stylish presentation and unique visuals & images. Dante has stated that it is his dreams that have influenced his films and that definitely comes across in each film as they all have a dreamlike, psychedelic tone, an ethereal feel to them. Each of his films have shown a director with a wild imagination who isn't afraid to push the envelope in terms of creativity, who isn't afraid to take risks and who isn't afraid to merge aspects of religion and horror. I watched this very cool and creepy short film the other day called Contact from writer/director Jeremiah Kipp. Contact stars Zoe Daelman Chlanda, Robb Leigh Davis, Katherine O'Sullivan, Tom Reid, Danny Lopes and Alan Rowe Kelly and includes a very talented production team.
Contact is a 10 minute black and white short felt more like a full-length feature. It starts out in what is an uneasy and uncomfortable setting then moves to the main story which to me focuses on drug use and finally ends back where it all begins but with forgiveness and redemption. It feels like a Twilight Zone episode on drugs!
I personally think everyone should check this short film out, for one reason or another it kind of has a message for a lot of us!
