Kickboxer is one of those eighties movies that defined the decade’s no-nonsense attitude. Back when every movie was an action flick, and testosterone ruled the box office, movies like that were Hollywood’s bread and butter. Some filmmakers, like Michael Bay and Dimitri Logothetis, fight hard to keep that ’80s spirit alive, and there’s no better […]

Lights, camera, action – Gunner certainly delivers on pulse-pounding fight sequences and gripping chase scenes. At the helm is director Dimitri Logothetis, bringing his vision for a modern military action flick to life. He assembles an all-star cast led by Luke Hemsworth in the role of Lee Gunner, a special forces soldier driven to save his sons by any means necessary.
When Lee takes his boys camping, their retreat quickly turns risky upon stumbling on a major drug ring in the woods. As their uncle perishes in an explosion and the boys get snatched, it’s up to Lee to wage an one-man war to bring them home safe. We see him systematically combating the traffickers with tactical precision. Hemsworth inhabits the intense role of the battle-hardened hero perfectly.
Along the way he butts heads with the villainous Dobbs Ryker, the son of the imprisoned crime lord played chillingly by Morgan Freeman.

THR broke the news last night that fan favorite action star Scott Adkins has joined the cast of Kickboxer: Armageddon. This will be the final chapter in a trilogy of films that started in 2016. Once again, Adkins is going to play a baddie like he did recently in John Wick Chapter 4. Adkins will play Cesare in Kickboxer: Armageddon, a martial arts master who rules over a sadistic cult, the descendants of the Reg (The Royal Elite Guard) of Burma. Cesare’s teaching philosophy involves learning through pain. Dimitri Logothetis, who co-wrote the first reboot, Kickboxer: Vengence, and helmed the second chapter, Kickboxer: Retaliation, returns to the director’s chair for the third film. “Scott is an exceptional actor as well as a martial...

As the big-budget projects get delayed and studios attempt to secure a deal with the Writers’ Guild of America, some of the smaller films that work outside of the studio system hope to use their grassroots status as an advantage during these times. Kevin Smith recently announced that his production, The 4:30 Movie, was approved to film with a waiver, and his movie is intended to start its principal photography later this month. Now, the director of the Kickboxer reboot is now preparing for his next two projects, hoping to get a waiver to allow his film to proceed.
According to Deadline, Dimitri Logothetis, the director of Kickboxer: Vengeance and Kickboxer: Retaliation, is planning for the shooting of the conclusion to his trilogy with Kickboxer: Armageddon. The film is set to star Alain Moussi, who took over for the part of Kurt Sloane, previously occupied by action legend, Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Dimitri Logothetis knows a thing or two about movies. Dimitri acted in a few movies as a child, including The Choirboys, New York, New York, and Victory at Entebbe. Dimitri has worn many hats in the entertainment industry, including producer, writer, and director. We had the incredible opportunity to interview the busy director about his movies Kickboxer and his latest film Jiu Jitsu which stars, Nicolas Cage and is now streaming at #4 on Netflix. Aotn: What is it like working with a major studio? Dimitri Logothetis: You know, the majority of my work is independent. 75% independent? And I do about 25% of major studio stuff. Which is a longer road because you need to, you know, build your resume. You need to work at the studio, and the studio needs to agree. You get an actor, and maybe there not available. So you go through a lot of development. You know,...

Photo: ‘Jiu Jitsu’/Netflix Shoot For The Comets New to Netflix this past weekend is the sci-fi comic book adaptation ‘Jiu Jitsu’ starring Alain Moussi, Frank Grillo, Nicolas Cage, JuJu Chan, and Tony Jaa. This film is very ambitious in its production, specifically with its camera and stunt work — unfortunately, when shooting for the stars the film doesn’t always make it. The film has some nuggets of good ideas and potential but overall, has too many aspects that needed improvement for me to be satisfied. Related article: A...

"He's crazy... like me!" This already debuted in the US last month. Signature Ent. in the UK has revealed a second trailer for the sci-fi fantasy action martial arts movie made by Greek-American filmmaker Dimitri Logothetis (director of 2018's Kickboxer: Retaliation) called Jiu Jitsu. It's opening in the UK in just a few more weeks, which is why there is another trailer. Described as "basically Predator meets Mortal Kombat meets National Treasure," the action film is about an ancient order of Jiu Jitsu fighters who face a vicious race of alien invaders in the form of a fighter named Brax. They must battle him for the survival of Earth. That's all you really need to know besides the killer cast: Nicolas Cage along with Alain Moussi, Frank Grillo, Rick Yune, Marie Avgeropoulos, Juju Chan, and Tony Jaa. If this still looks like something you might enjoy, then rent it today and have fun!

The classic martial arts film Kickboxer was given new life in 2016 by producer and screenwriter Dimitri Logothetis, the man behind the remake Kickboxer: Vengeance. The legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme took on the role of the mentor, while martial artist Alain Moussi was introduced to the world of cinema with the starring role of the young man who wishes to face the Muay Thai fighter who took the life of his brother in Thailand. “Dimitri and I, we’ve known each other now for 10 years, he’s a dear friend”, said Moussi in an interview for Screen Anarchy. “It started as producer hiring an actor, I was saying give me the chance. That’s what Dimitri did for me and that was the relationship. It progressed to...

On the face of it, a film about Nicolas Cage fighting an alien assassin in the jungle should be hard to screw up, let Cage rage and the entertainment is almost a given. With action specialist Dimitri Logothetis at the helm, Jiu Jitsu certainly had potential to deliver solid, pulpy, kick-punchy fun. Unfortunately, in spite of an all-star cast of martial arts superstars and a solid concept, the end product is somehow simultaneously too hyperactive to track and a complete slog in terms of plot. Though it's Cage on the poster selling the film, Jiu Jitsu is actually a vehicle for B-level martial arts star Alain Moussi, a favorite of Logothetis who led the casts of his previous entries in the Kickboxer saga, Vengeance and Retaliation....

It’s not the worst idea in sci-fi B-movie history: a ruthless alien race, that also happen to be experts in the martial arts, invade the planet every half-dozen years to battle its most exceptional warriors. The fate of mankind is at stake, but in “Jiu Jitsu,” writer-director Dimitri Logothetis (“Kickboxer: Retaliation”) makes the absolute least of a promising concept. Shamelessly cribbing from the original “Predator” (1987), “Mortal Kombat” (1992), and “The Bourne Identity” (2002),

Given the rate at which the prolific actor churns them out, it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that there’s a new Nicolas Cage movie heading to VOD in the near future. The vast majority of these flicks are action thrillers that see the Academy Award winner going through the motions in a series of generic and formulaic entries into the genre, but his latest effort Jiu Jitsu looks completely insane in the best kind of way.
The plot will instantly let you know if you’re on board for it, which you definitely should be. The film revolves around an ancient order of martial artists who face off against a race of invading aliens with the fate of the planet hanging in the balance, and Cage plays the wizened mentor figure who gathers a crack team to defeat their extraterrestrial enemies in hand to hand combat.

Nicolas Cage has a new sci-fi martial arts film on the way, and its trailer dropped Tuesday. A warning before watching: viewers may need to take some time to themselves and regroup afterwards.
As with most modern-day Cage films, there is a lot to unpack in the Jiu Jitsu preview, so best to do some stretching with the basics before the full-on, netless acrobatic journey that is the material.
Directed by Dimitri Logothetis (Kickboxer Retaliation) with a screenplay by Logothetis and James McGrath, who both created the 2017 comic under the same name, the film stars the fan-favorite Cage as — wait ...

"There's no honor in killing crazy." Holy crap! Where did this thing come from?! Highland Film Group has released an official trailer for Jiu Jitsu, an insanely awesome sci-fi fantasy action martial arts movie from Greek-American filmmaker Dimitri Logothetis (director of 2018's Kickboxer: Retaliation). IGN describe the film as "basically Predator meets Mortal Kombat meets National Treasure." An ancient order of Jiu Jitsu fighters faces a vicious race of alien invaders in the form of a fighter named Brax, who they must battle for the survival of Earth. That's basically all you need to know besides the killer cast: Nicolas Cage along with Alain Moussi, Frank Grillo, Rick Yune, Marie Avgeropoulos, Juju Chan, and Tony Jaa. And best of all - this will be out on VOD in November. Not too long of a wait! This looks absolutely ridiculous, but the good kind of ridiculous, along with just the right...

It’s always difficult to bid farewell to a beloved television ensemble, but especially so for the cast of The CW’s The 100. Many viewers have literally grown up alongside these characters, who started as juvenile delinquents and ended as adults who had lived several lifetimes. Even for older viewers, the characters and the actors behind them have become much beloved.
In this case, we can happily say until we meet again, as many cast members have already lined up new projects. Some are jumping immediately into new TV series, while others are exploring film franchises. At least one actor who got the chance to try her hand at directing on The 100 is honing that craft in future projects.
