Mystery fans, rejoice!!
There's a new Acorn TV Original right around the corner, and it's very, very good.
P.D. James wrote 14 novels based on detective and poet Adam Dalgliesh, and the new series simply goes by the title Dalgliesh.
Bertie Carvel is bringing the enigmatic yet emotionally intelligent and empathetic Dalgliesh to life in a season set in 1970s England.
Dalgliesh specializes in solving unusual murders. The cases may sound relatively benign, but they unfold unusually and strike a chord with the viewer.
We'll first meet Dalgliesh looking into the murder of a nursing student poisoned to death during a live training demonstration (it's a death that sticks with you!).
Another investigation will involve the murders of a homeless man and a recently resigned Tory MP whose throats were slit in a London church.
Dalgliesh will also be called upon to solve a series of suspicious deaths at a home for the disabled.

This War of the Worlds review contains spoilers.
Mechanicals! “Bob” aside, those robo-machine-gun-killer-dog-cyborg-bastards haven’t had a proper name since they first skittered out of their spaceships to pick off humanity’s dregs. Now we finally know what to call them – not that calling them is in any way advisable; running and hiding is a far safer option.
Surprisingly in light of the Mechanicals’ ‘shoot first, shoot questions later’ approach, Adina said that they’d be able to care for Emily and Sacha on board that spaceship. Caring not having been a big part of the dogs’ repertoire thus far, they must have an alternate setting, one that tells them how to deliver babies rather than stab them in the head. Let’s hope that the right switch is flicked. Or let’s not, considering that Emily and Sacha’s offspring are the founding members of the murderous race responsible for this whole genocidal mess.

Warning: contains major spoilers for War of the Worlds season one.
The first thing to remember about Howard Overman’s moodily atmospheric War of the Worlds is that if novelist H.G. Wells were here today (and had the required TV streaming package), he probably wouldn’t recognise it as his story. Aside from an alien invasion that wipes out much of Earth’s population, the TV drama had little crossover with Wells’ novel. Instead of tripods with heat rays, it had cyborg dogs with machine gun heads. Instead of a solitary journalist wandering around Woking, it had a large cast of scientists, soldiers, teenagers and others, spread across the UK and France. Instead of dealing with themes of colonial imperialism, it was mostly about family and loss. And instead of red weed-spreading Martians it had… well, that’s the question. Ahead of season two’s arrival on Epix in the...

Absentia has come to an end as star Stana Katic revealed on Friday that the Amazon series’ third season is its last.
Katic, who executive produces and leads the thriller drama series as Emily Byrne, paid tribute to her cast and crew, celebrated her time on the show and honored her fans with posts on Twitter and Instagram.
“When they asked me in January 2017 if I was ready to spend 3 years in Bulgaria shooting a cable TV series, I had no idea what I was in for. I could never have imagined the creative partnerships and the friendships that would form and enrich my life,” she wrote. “Three Seasons was the perfect amount of space for a beautiful, complicated and wonderfully fulfilling journey. We took our protagonist on the path of victim to survivor to … empowered architect of her own future, which is a journey I hope we can all have after this confounding year.

The series previously hinted that Kelly will take up the mantle left by her brother, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), which will come to fruition in the upcoming episode “Blind Spots.” Co-written by Tesfai and co-producer J. Holtham, the episode is said to address racial inequality. “Arrow” star David Ramsey will direct the episode and reprise his role of John Diggle.
“Supergirl” follows the DC character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), who balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with keeping National City safe from sinister threats as the titular superhero. Eerie, desolate sci-fi series War of the Worlds aired in France in late 2019 and earlier this year in the Us and UK. Less an adaptation of the titular H.G. Wells novel than a contemporary riff on the alien invasion thriller by creator Howard Overman, it resolutely ploughed its own furrow. Moody, atmospheric, bleak and emotional, it swapped red weed, tripods and heat rays for a grief-soaked meditation on family and survival… with terrifying alien robot sniper dogs.
The series’ second run commission has been an open secret for months, but the official stamp was announced this weekend, with filming due to begin on Monday the 13th of July after a dry run of the new Covid-19 filming protocol took place last Friday.
Deadline, speaking to Urban Myth producer Johnny Capps reported on the meticulous planning and procedures in place to film the second series in the midst of a global coronavirus pandemic.

“In literature, dystopian novels and science fiction has been a safe place for us to deal with collective terror,” Byrne said. “But what Wells also understood is that the greatest threat is not from out there, but from inside ourselves, and we see in this new telling of the story a warning that it is only our own humanity that will save us.”

Yet another television adaptation of H.G. Wells’s War of the Worlds is in the works, this time from Fox Networks Group.
War of the Worlds, the template-setting 1898 alien invasion sci-fi novel by H.G. Wells, has certainly seen its share of adaptations over its century-plus existence; a multi-medium collection that will soon add a promising miniseries by the BBC. However, Urban Myth Films is prepping its own television take on the classic story of extraterrestrial conflagration. Moreover, the series has procured a pair of prestigious stars for its effort.
Gabriel Byrne and Elizabeth McGovern will headline a War of the Worlds television series. This adaptation – arriving as eight 60-minute episodes – puts Wells’s story through the lens of modernization, manifesting as a contemporary-set reimagining of the tale; a stark distinction from the BBC miniseries, which adapts a more traditional setting for the story in the brief 1901-1910 era of Edwardian England.

The Stana Katic-led “Absentia” has been renewed for a second season by Amazon, the streamer announced Thursday. The sophomore installment is currently in production in Sofia, Bulgaria and set to debut in 2019 on Prime Video.
“Castle” alum Katic stars in and executive produces “Absentia,” which centers on FBI agent Emily Byrne (Katic). In season one, Emily disappeared without a trace and was declared dead after hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers. Six years later, Emily was found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive, and with no memory of the years she was missing. Returning home to learn her husband had remarried and her son was being raised by another woman, she soon found herself implicated in a new series of murders.
In season two, after tracking down and killing her abductor, Emily struggles for a tenuous new normal with son Flynn and ex-husband Nick.
