Celebrities Joanna Lumley, Evanna Lynch and Jan Leeming are pleading with Johannesburg zoo in South Africa to have a heart this Valentine’s day and agree to relocate to a sanctuary a 39-year old female elephant called Lammie who lives a lonely existence since her mate died in September.
Animal protection groups Humane Society International/Africa, the Ems Foundation and the Elephant Reintegration Trust have found a rewilding sanctuary willing to offer Lammie a forever home living with other elephants who would become her new family, but so far the zoo has resisted and has instead suggested it may acquire another elephant.
The campaigners will hand in a 280,000 signature joint petition to the zoo together with Valentine’s cards from members of the public urging the zoo to transfer Lammie to the sanctuary. A letter of support from 13 of the world’s most renowned elephant conservationists has also been submitted.

Russ Abbot, Bullseye, Noel Edmonds and a film we all watched in the same room. Christmas TV was more exciting in the 80s...
Cast your mind back to when Christmas Day wasn't about Doctor Who followed by sticking something on Netflix until it was time to go watch the annual fist fight outside the pub.

In the 80s, Christmas was about seeing which fantastic fare the TV had decided to bless us with. Of course, the more prepared among us knew this well in advance, having eagerly pored over the Radio Times/TV Times to check that Jimmy Cricket's Family Laugh 'n' Waz would be shown. There it was – right after Reflections On The Eucharist With The Reverend Paul Leyland.

Playboy bosses are said to be keen to land Cheryl Cole for a future edition of their publication.
The men’s magazine has reportedly offered the X Factor judge £500,000 for a nude phtoshoot, after British celebrities such as Kelly Brook proved such a hit with their readers.
However, male fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, insiders say that Cheryl will definitely be turning down the offer insisting that it is “not for her”.
A pal told the Daily Star:
“Cheryl is incredibly flattered by the offer but she’s always been fundamentally opposed to going nude in magazines.
“She reckons it’s great if other girls can do it, but it really isn’t her.
“People won’t believe it but she is actually incredibly shy when it comes to all that stuff.”
The insider added: “Cheryl has a fortune of £10million. It’s not like she needs the money.

A wintry edition of Celebrity Come Dine With Me sees six-times married former newsreader Jan Leeming in an intriguing battle with former Eastender and life-long bachelor Dave “Keith” Spinx, the ultimate undercover reporter Donal McIntyre and Eurovision popstress turned R & B diva, Javine.
Over four very different dinner parties there’s love, lust, nudity, tears and a fancy dress disco before one of them walks away with the ?1000 charity prize.
Kicking off the week is Donal ‘tough nut’ McIntyre, whose friends won’t come to dinner in case “a bullet meant for me hits them!” That should reassure his celebrity guests…. Unfortunately this means Donal is not the most experienced host and his last minute decision to serve ox cheek instead of braised beef may be one he lives to regret.
Still, at least 68-year-old Jan’s there to divert attention away from the food with talk of her recent nude photo shoot…...
