In the first moments of the sci-fi horror series Parasyte: The Grey, a spore from who knows where falls from the sky. It bounces gently onto the ground as it lands, looking like a squishy toy you’d get from a gumball machine. Then a tentacle sprouts out, slithers toward the nearest person, jumps right into their brain — and creates a tentacled creature that endangers everyone in sight.
The series from director Yeon Sang-ho follows the aftermath when one too many extraterrestrial larvae flop onto Earth in an attempt to take over humankind. As a powerful team called the Grey work to eradicate the threat by any means necessary, one woman must coexist with the parasite that lives inside her. Based on the Japanese manga Parasyte, the Korean series stars Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Lee Jung-hyun.

Will there be Parasyte: The Grey Season 2 Netflix series? The ending of the series hints at Season 2 of the series we are still not clear what happened to Shinichi and how he became an investigative journalist. There is a lot to cover up!
Parasyte is taking over the world by storm – figuratively and speaking.
The K-Drama horror series premiered globally on April 5, 2024, with six episodes on Netflix. The narrative of the K-Drama revolves around young and ordinary Su-in and Kang-Woo who end up fighting the brains of parasites that intend to invade Earth by eating human flesh – more specifically, human brains. Yuck!
The creepiness, the gruesomeness, and the intriguing CGIs have indeed made this a series worth binging for. The ones who have already watched the series till the end might be wondering if Parasyte: The Grey would be returning with a more gruesome and gory second season.

The original Parasyte manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki is considered to be a seinen classic. The series about an invasion of strange alien parasites became a hit with readers around the world, and the subsequent anime adaptation also became a major hit, being lauded as one of the best seinen anime in history. And while we saw a two-part live-action movie adaptation of the series, Netflix has – as we know – decided to take the live-action aspect to another level with Parasyte: The Grey, with the series just releasing its first full trailer.
Parasyte: The Grey is an upcoming South Korean adaptation of Iwaaki’s manga, which is going to be set in Soul and will retell the story of the manga from a different perspective. It is unknown whether this is actually a canon spin-off or just a different take on the story, but it certainly has us excited. As we’ve said,...

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga, Parasyte: The Grey, deviates significantly from the first anime and manga. Following the success of One Piece and Alice in Borderland, it is unexpected that Netflix is considering another manga adaptation.
What distinguishes Netflix’s Parasyte: The Grey from other adaptations is that it was produced in Korea, although it was based on Japanese manga.

Parasyte’s Grey Trailer hints at Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the horror anime series. Netflix recently released the trailer for Parasyte: The Greys.
While it seems to follow the core concept of the original manga and anime, it does not contain any of the key characters from the source materials. The trailer’s overall tone seems to be darker than that of the original anime.
The latest trailer depicts a world in which alien creatures known as the Parasites have taken in many people.

Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix: “They arrive in silence and darkness. They descend from the skies. They have a hunger for human flesh. They are everywhere.
“They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade-and take control of-a human host to survive. And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands. But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces. So no...

Currently revelling in the success of recently-uploaded Don Lee-starring film “Badland Hunters” and already teasing the second season of “Squid Game,” Netflix has unveiled a major slate of Korean films and series for 2024.
In August last year, Netflix publicly committed to investing $2.5 billion on Korean content over the next four years. That reflected both Netflix’s position as the country’s leading streamer, with an estimated 6.5 million subscribers, and its adopted role as one of the biggest exporters of Korean film and TV content.
“We were able to make this [investment] decision because we have great confidence that the Korean creative industry will continue to tell great stories,” said the streamer’s co-chief Ted Sarandos at the time of the spending commitment.

It's not often you get to see Park Chan-wook directing anything other than feature films, but it is not something that never happens. He has made a few short films, most prominently his segment in “Three… Extremes” and even last year's “Life is But A Dream”, effectively an advertisement of the prowess of Apple's iPhone 13 Pro. That was the second time that Park directed a short for Apple, since he also did one in 2011 called “Night Fishing”, shot entirely on the iPhone 4 and starring actress/singer Lee Jung-hyun, under the pseudonym PARKing CHANce.
What, however, is very uncommon is the director making a music video. The prolific genre director has dabbled in the format only once, way back in 2013, when he directed, once again as PARKing CHANce, the music video for “Night Fishing” actress Lee Jung-hyun's track “V”, starring Lee herself alongside Jin Goo.

Park Chan-wook, the world-renowned South Korean auteur best known for the floridly violent films referred to as his “Vengeance Trilogy,” wanted to tell a gentler story. It was 2019 and Park was ruminating on ideas for what would become Decision to Leave, his 11th film and first feature in six years, following a period of television work and fine art creation. He began with two competing ideas.
“Over the years, I’ve watched lots of detective dramas and police procedurals, and I love these kinds of films,” he says. “But I’ve always thought the depiction of the protagonists is quite far from reality, because they’re either really tough and violent, or some kind of genius detective.” Examples in this genre are particularly prevalent in Korea, where the highest-grossing movie just this year is Lee Sang-yong’s The Roundup (101 million and counting), a...

Slow is the new action that only few proven masters can pull off, and Park Chan-wook is one of them. In “Decision to Leave”, his marvelous detective drama that competed in Cannes official selection, he has proven that the film’s length has nothing to do with the degree of the comfort of a chair. And trust me, I know what I am talking about, because I watched the film from one of the most uncomfortable sitting opportunities in the Salle Debussy, those reserved for the late-commers, right at the end of the regular sitting rows.

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we look at Lee Jung-hyun's V, (co-)directed by Park Chan-wook. One of the most under-appreciated aspects of Park Chan-wook's directorial work is his penchant for Gothic flair: it's heavily on display in The Handmaiden and Thirst, but there is also a reason why his english-language debut was called Stoker. The Gothic anti-hero, full of yearning and horror is present in most of Park's work, but there is also the use of tropes directly out of Gothic horror: from the many instances where creepy puppets or marionettes show up, that evoke E.T.A Hoffman's Der Sandmann, to the vampires in Thirst. Thematically Park's work is heavily informed by...

"Bring me the head of that kind detective." Mubi has debuted their own new official trailer for Decision to Leave, one of the best films of the year opening in theaters this fall. It's the latest from acclaimed Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, originally premiering at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival where Park won the Best Director prize. It was my favorite film of this year's festival, an impeccably made intriguing story of love and murder. A detective investigating a death in the mountains meets the dead man's mysterious wife in the course of his dogged sleuthing. It's not as shocking or as crazy as Park's previous films, but it's still a remarkable film anyway. Starring Tang Wei, Park Hae-il, Go Kyung-Pyo, and Lee Jung-Hyun. I wrote in my Cannes review: "More than a detective story about solving crimes, Decision to Leave is a masterful, exquisite romance that makes your heart beat faster.

The series, which reimagines Kodansha’s legendary manga series Parasyte, tells the story of unidentified parasitic life-forms that live off of human hosts and strive to grow their power. As they start to disrupt society, a group of humans wage war against the rising evil.
The streamer has also confirmed that Jeon So-nee (When My Love Blooms, Jo Pil-ho: The Dawning Rage), Koo Kyo-hwan (Peninsula, D.P., Escape from Mogadishu), and Lee Jung-hyun (Peninsula, Decision to Leave) will lead the cast.
Parasyte: The Grey is written by Yeon and Ryu Yong-jae (Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area). The series is produced by Climax Studio and Wow Point. Netflix will release the show worldwide.

The Korean Film Council has picked Park Chan-wook’s Decision to Leave to represent South Korea at the 2023 Academy Awards in the best international feature category.
The crime drama follows police detective Hae-joon (Park Hae-il) called in to investigate the mysterious death of a man who fell from a mountain peak. During his investigation, he begins to develop an interest in the man’s widow, Seo-rae (Tang Wei), who is a suspect in the case.
The romantic thriller follows the Korean auteur’s 2000 commercial breakthrough with Joint Security Area, and bowed in Cannes where it earned Chan-wook the best director prize. Mubi has already picked up the film to play theatrically in the U.S. and U.K. this fall, followed by a streaming bow on its platform.

"Bring me the head of that kind detective." Cj Entertainment has revealed another official "main" trailer for Decision to Leave, the latest film from acclaimed Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook. This one premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where Park Chan-wook won the Best Director prize (seen in the photo below the trailer). I wrote in my Cannes review: "More than a detective story about solving crimes, Decision to Leave is a masterful, exquisite romance that makes your heart beat faster." I can't wait...
