Harlan Lattimore(1908-1980)
- Soundtrack
Harlan Lattimore, known as "The Black Crosby" was a vocalist with some
of the preeminent black dance bands of the early to mid 30s, most
notably that of Don Redman. He recorded with several other groups, and
was one of the first black singers to record with a white band (Isham
Jones, 1932). Despite his considerable singing talent, which laid the
groundwork for such later singing stars such as Nat King Cole and Billy
Eckstine, Lattimore gradually receded from the music scene after 1937.
Contemporary reports indicate that he had a narcotics problem. Except
for a brief attempt at a comeback in the late 40s, little more was
heard of Harlan Lattimore until his death in 1980.
