Just when you thought nothing more could be done with the zombie movie sub-genre, along comes a group of boy scouts and suddenly, we’re heading back into battle. With Paramount putting his new horror-comedy – Scouts Vs Zombies – together, writer/director Christopher Landon will be hoping that the appearance of beloved comedy actor, David Koechner, will help set the kind of tone necessary to bring a new edge to this familiar concept.
Centring on a small American town, Scouts Vs Zombies sees a group of Boy Scouts try to defend their neighbourhood from a zombie attack. Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries), Tye Sheridan (Mud) and Logan Miller (Growing Up Fisher) are already on board, and they will now joined by Koechner, as Scout Leader. No stranger to the horror-comedy arena, David Koechner featured in Piranha 3Dd in 2012, as well as being a well-known figure following his work on the Anchorman movies,...

(Cbr) The found-footage "Paranormal Activity" film series is a machine: since 2009, there have been five films released thus far, with at least two more yet to come. But in the latest installment, the spinoff "The Marked Ones", new characters pick up the camera where their predecessors left off, this time following the transformation of a high school graduate named Jesse (Andrew Jacobs) into the minion of a dark and evil force, as his two friends Carlos (Jorge Diaz) and Marisol (Gabrielle Walsh) try to help him. Spinoff recently sat down with the film’s director, Christopher Landon, for a quick chat,...

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom (12A)
(Justin Chadwick, 2013, UK/Sa) Idris Elba, Naomie Harris, Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Jamie Bartlett. 146 mins
Prestige dramatisation finds little to add to a true story that's already inspirational enough, and has already been much retold, especially since Mandela's death. That leaves this as a slightly redundant exercise in biopic box-ticking and corner-cutting, puffed up with awards-friendly grandeur and less interested in the political questions than the personal heart-strings. Still, Elba conveys something of the man as well as the icon, and Harris is a spirited Winnie.

Latino-based 'Paranormal Activity' spin-off feature 'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones' is still a few months off from general release but that won't stop Paramount using this very horror-themed season to tout its newest found footage effort. It hits Us theatres on 3 January 2014 and a new international trailer for the project has arrived. Paramount Pictures has decided to shake up its plans for the "Paranormal Activity" franchise as the fifth film still hasn't gone into production.
A few weeks ago came word that PA5 had moved from the franchise's traditional annual October release slot to a January 3rd 2014 release.
Now, the company has pushed back "Paranormal Activity 5" all the way to an October 24th 2014 release date. Greg Plotkin, who edited the last three films, is looking likely to direct that next chapter.
However, fans of the franchise will get their satisfaction sooner than that. Christopher Landon's latino-audience targeted spin-off of the franchise is much further along than PA5, and has already been performing well with test audiences.
As a result, Paramount has moved it into that January 3rd 2014 release slot. Formerly titled "The Oxnard Tapes," they've changed the title to fall under the franchise's moniker. It will now go by the name...

For those disappointed with the news that 'Paranormal Activity 5' was being pushed back from Halloween to a 2014 release can take solace today in the fact that next year may in fact be seeing 2 'Paranormal Activity' related movies! 'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones' is the Latino spin-off movie from director Christopher Landon and this is the movie being set up for a 3 January 2014 release. PA5 is now being lined up for an 24 October 2014 opening. So we get an inbetween filler movie to hopefully appease us for the time being but its still now over a year before we can see how the continuing story of the possessed Katie and Hunter moves on. Hopefully this hiatus can lead to a stronger script for PA5 and result in a better end product because the franchise is sadly slipping into genre mediocrity....

Sometimes you get the feeling that movie studios just kinda hate you. This summer audiences have already been fed and rejected two unnecessary sequels ("Red 2" and "The Smurfs 2") with both pictures underperforming severely compared to their first efforts. But somehow, the "Paranormal Activity" franchise has remained a consistent box office stunner, partially because they are made for nothing and pretty much instantly become profitable, and partially because audiences seem to really like jump scares. But are we going to get our limits tested in 2014? According to Shock 'Til You Drop, there are actually two "Paranormal Activity" movies coming next year. The first is "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones," the Latino themed franchise spinoff you probably already forgot about. That flick comes from series producers Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Christopher Landon, with the movie apparently a Latino-flavored horror movie (whatever that means), that will be in English.

Although no Paranormal Activity film will be hitting theaters in 2013, Paramount Pictures confirmed today that 2014 will be getting a double-helping of the "found footage" horror franchise. January 3 will see the release of the Latino-themed spinoff , now titled Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones , while Paranormal Activity 5 has been dated for October 24, 2014. Described as a "cousin" to the franchise, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is scripted by Christopher Landon, will feature a Latino cast and will offer a storyline rooted in a Catholic-based investigation into the supernatural. As with the rest of the series, Jason Blum and Oren Peli will produce.

Back in October, we reported some updates to the next chapter of the Paranormal Activity franchise.
Now our friends over at Bloody Disgusting have posted a post-credit clip of the still unnamed spin-off. Here’s what we know about the set-up:
“The new project will reunite producers Jason Blum and Oren Peli with Christopher Landon, the writer of the second and third installments in the Paranormal franchise."
"Landon will write and direct the project, described by sources as a 'cousin' to the Paranormal movies but not a sequel, reboot or spinoff. The real kicker is that the movie will be Latino-themed. It will star a Latino cast and will tackle Catholic-based paranormal mythology. It will not, however, be in Spanish.”

Thanks to Paranormal 4's $30M opening weekend box office success, Paramount already has plans underway for a fifth installment due out next Halloween.
Not only that, but there’s the Latino spin-off we reported on, which screenwriter and director Christopher Landon will be creating. The spin-off is said to include the demon from the Paranormal movies and will be partially in Spanish.
There are also some interesting things happening on Jacob Degloshi's Facebook page. Updates have included things like, “I swear an earthquake woke me up last night but no reports of one. #Odd.” and “I think Sarah pulled out all the wires from my computer and equipment.” Degloshi also found an old Vcr and some mystery VHS tapes. Earlier this year, Paramount and the film's creator revealed their spinoff plans with Landon attached to the project, and the movie was given a tentative January 2013 release date. However, the studio is now looking into a Spring 2013 release for the untitled spinoff.

In April we told you the Paranormal Activity franchise would be getting a Latino cousin. Days ago a teaser was rumored to be an Easter egg at the end credits of Paranormal Activity 4. Today confirmation has come.
Ace Rimmer, an AICN reader who attended an early test screening last night, confirmed the bonus footage. So, what did he see? Read on, but be warned spoilers abound!
Spoilers
As for the post-credits scene, it bears no immediate relationship to the main story and is no more then a small tease. If you’re curious, here’s a Spoiler breakdown.
An unknown person enters a convenience store on what appears to be a street in Mexico. He calls out in Spanish and is surprised by an old woman who talks quickly and urges him back out the door.
That’s it. The implication is that witches are elsewhere and creepy activity can’t be far behind.

What was shown at Fantastic Fest this year was labeled as a “Work Print.” One of the two directors on the film introduced it and said that they’re still tinkering with some of the sound cues and a few digital effects. Aside from that though, it appears they showed what is going to be the final cut of the film.
It’s hard to believe that the Paranormal Activity franchise began in such a modest way. Word of mouth buzz and guerrilla marketing made the first film an overnight success among the online community which quickly triggered a rapid expansion to city after city of midnight screenings. Though the budget of each of its sequels may have changed quite a bit, one reason to applaud the now annual horror series - regardless if you’re a fan of the films or not – is that the simplistic aesthetic and scares...

Paranormal Activity 4
Stars: Brady Allen, Katie Featherston, Kathryn Newton, Matt Shively | Written by Christopher Landon | Directed by Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman
I loved the first Paranormal Activity film. I remember watching it with terrified friends in a shrieking cinema and then later subjecting flatmates to it. My girlfriend to this day is guaranteed a sleepless night if you so much as mention Paranormal Activity during an evening. In preparation for Paranormal Activity 4, I caught up with the sequels. I found them far from as exciting as the original though there was stuff to enjoy in both of them – PA2 perhaps has more pointed scares than the first and I enjoyed the period setting of PA3; surely all horror films should be set in their eighties heyday? What was lacking was the enjoyment of watching them as part of an audience.

Apparently Paramount Pictures is looking to expand the Paranormal Activity universe by making a Latino-themed version of the horror franchise, but it won't be in Spanish. It won't be a sequel or a remake, it's described as being more of a "Cousin" to the original films, and it will be teased at the end of of Paranormal Activity 4 in a post-credits sequence.
The new project will reunite producers Jason Blum and Oren Peli with Christopher Landon, who wrote the second and third installments of the Paranormal movies. Landon will also direct.
The movie will take place in the same universe as the previous Paranormal movies. It will obviously have a whole new Latino cast, and the story will be based around some crazy creepy Catholic paranormal mythology. The studio is planning to make the micro-budgeted movie in the next several months, and they could potentially release the movie in...

Paranormal Activity 4 hits theaters October 19th, and if you’re already planning on going, then you are really, really dedicated to this franchise. Seriously. You’re sticking it out, and there’s something probably commendable about that. At any rate, you’ll be rewarded with even more Paranormal Activity for going to see the fourth Paranormal Activity. According to Bloody Disgusting, Paramount is planning to toss a post-credits tease for the forthcoming “Latino-themed” spin-off onto the prints. From writer/director Christopher Landon, the new movie will feature a Latino cast and involve Catholicism, but it will be in English (meaning that the “latino-themed” Actividad Paranormal (my title) will later have to be clumsily dubbed into Spanish. Irony abounds) and isn’t the first foreign-focused spin-off for the franchise. In 2010, they released Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night. There may be sequels forever and ever, but this move is especially laudable for how transparently cash-grabby it is...

Steve Carell may have himself a very terrible horrible, no good, very bad day. Deadline.com reports that the beloved actor is in talks to join a live action adaptation of the famed children's book "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," which Lisa Cholodenko ("The Kids Are All Right") will direct.
Based on the book by Judith Viorst, "Very Bad Day" will be a live-action feature, with Carell potentially starring as Ben. The former "Office" star has done a good job shifting between kids' movies and more adult comedies. He provided his voice in animated films like "Horton Hears a Who" and "Despicable Me," while also starring in features like "Crazy Stupid Love" and "Seeking a Friend For the End of the World."
Cholodenko became attached to the project last May. She earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for "Kids Are All Right," which she also directed.

Paramount and the Paranormal Activity team are still making films in the Pa franchise – the fourth is due out this October – but they’re also working on ideas for the future, and they’ve recently unveiled their next step. The studio will join forces with director Oren Peli and Jason Blum and Christopher Landon (writers of the second and third films) to craft what they’re billing as a “cousin” to the Paranormal Activity series. The currently untitled project will not be a sequel, reboot, or spinoff according to THR, but will instead be a Latino-themed horror flick that focuses on Catholic mythology. Color us intrigued. All involved are hoping that the film (which will be in English despite the Latino focus) can be shot quickly &ndash...

Since he's three for three with his Paranormal Activity films, it makes sense that creator Oren Peli would want to try some new things with the franchise's winning formula. So it's understandable that he's developing a project that is not a spin-off, sequel or reboot but rather a "cousin". More after the jump. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Paramount and the producers of Paranormal Activity are prepping a spinoff of sorts... The new project will reunite producers Jason Blum and Oren Peli with Christopher Landon, the writer of the second and third installments in the Paranormal franchise." "Landon will write and direct the project, described by sources as a...

In the same spirit of melting-pot multiculturalism that has inspired CBS’s ¡Rob! and Taco Bell’s Doritos Locos Taco, Paranormal Activity producers Oren Peli, Jason Blum, and Christopher Landon are planning a Latino-themed offshoot of their popular supernatural franchise, combining the prepackaged tropes of the American version with the colorful, spicy zest of exploitable Latino culture. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Paranormal Activity: Diversity Ghosts won’t be a sequel, reboot, or spinoff, nor will it actually be called that. Instead—much like the “officially sanctioned” Japanese offshoot, Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night—they’re terming it a ...

"Paranormal Activity" producers Jason Blum and Oren Peli are re-teaming with that series' sequel scribe Christopher Landon for a latino-themed pseudo-spinoff to the highly successful micro-budget franchise reports Heat Vision.
Landon will write and direct the film which isn't a sequel, reboot or direct spinoff of 'Paranormal'. Rather it's described as being a "cousin" to those films, the key difference being this having a latino cast and tackling Catholic-based paranormal mythology. Despite the different audience demographic focus however, the film will be spoken in English (not Spanish).
Paramount aims to shoot the project soon and a release could be ready as early as January, taking the same slot they gave surprise hit "The Devil Inside" earlier this year. Steven Schneider will also produce.

The untitled horror movie, to be shot/made/executed in the “Paranormal Activity” style, will have an all-Latino cast, but be shot entirely in English. Which, yeah, doesn’t really make any sense, but there you have it. Apparently it will not be a a sequel, reboot or a spinoff of the Oren Peli franchise, but just, well, another “Paranormal Activity” movie patterned after the Peli film, with an all-new cast. And oh yeah, this version will “tackle Catholic-based paranormal mythology”, similar to the recent hit “The Devil Inside”, which, let’s face it, owes most of its success to the “Paranormal Activity” movies, so it’s only fair the “Paranormal Activity” guys do them one better. Sorta like a snake eating its own tail, if you will. But hey, you kids don’t seem to be getting your fill of these Found Footage horror movies yet, so why should...

Given the healthy returns for skimpy budgets offered by the Paranormal Activity series, it’s not surprising that Paramount would want to try to milk that cash cow for all the spooky juice it has to offer. Now the studio, along with the producing team behind the franchise, are looking at ways to get even more value, planning to create what they’re calling a “cousin” to the series. But don’t go thinking that we’ll be digging into the background of annoying Activity character Micah anytime soon; the idea this time is to follow a completely different set of characters, featuring a Catholic-based supernatural mythology and an all-Latino cast.Paranormal overlords Oren Peli (who wrote and directed the film that kicked the whole thing off) and Jason Blum will produce as usual, with Christopher Landon handling both script and directing duties. Although Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are already at work on Paranormal Activity 4, and although that film will undoubtedly lead to a fifth, sixth, probably even seventh entry, the big financial reapings of one franchise aren’t enough for its producers. According to THR, Oren Peli and Jason Blum will collaborate with Christopher Landon — screenwriter of Paranormal‘s second and third installments — on a film that, while labeled a “cousin” to the aforementioned series, will not be “a sequel, reboot or spinoff.”
Well, that’s nothing too peculiar — that is, until you go just a little further and learn that this will cater toward Latino audiences, have a Latino cast, and even go so far as to “tackle Catholic-based paranormal mythology.” (Comparisons to Paramount’s own The Devil Inside feel a little tone deaf, all things considered.) Landon will write and direct the film; production is expected to get...

According to a new report, Paramount and the Paranormal Activity producers are working on a new project that is being described as a “Catholic-based paranormal mythology” horror movie.
THR reveals that Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and Christopher Landon are working together on the project, with Landon writing and directing the movie. While not part of the Paranormal Activity brand, it is a spin-off of sorts that has been described as a “cousin” to the Paranormal Activity series.
This time around, they are said to be specifically targeting a Latino audience. While the movie will be in English, it will feature a Latino cast and seems to have been prompted by The Devil Inside being very successful with that target audience. This is another micr0-budget production and is expected to begin filming within the next few months.

Some really interesting news coming out of Paramount to kick off your Easter weekend. Not only is the Paranormal Activity crew working on the fourth entry into the franchise, but there's a Latino-flavored offshoot in the works as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the new project will reunite producers Jason Blum and Oren Peli with Christopher Landon, the writer of the second and third installments of the Paranormal movies.
Landon will write and direct the project, described by sources as a “cousin” to the Paranomal movies but not a sequel or reboot nor a spin-off. The real kicker is that the movie will be Latino-themed. It will star a Latino cast and will tackle Catholic-based paranormal mythology. It will not, however, be in Spanish.
The aim is to make the micro-budgeted movie in the next several months.
Paramount could potentially have the movie ready for an early January 2013 slot.
