Lizzie McGuire's most underrated character had the fewest lines in the show. Part of the Disney Channel show's appeal was rooted in the memorable cast of characters that surrounded Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff). Her younger brother, Matt McGuire (Jake Thomas), always made an impression with his various schemes, as did Lizzie's two best friends, David "Gordo" Gordon (Adam Lamberg) and Miranda Sanchez (Lalaine), as they dealt with the challenges of adolescence.
In terms of supporting characters, Lizzie was rarely able to make it through a day in middle school without an insult from the popular Kate Sanders (Ashlie Brillault). Kate often proved to be an obstacle in Lizzie's attempts to win the attention of her crush, Ethan Craft (Clayton Snyder), who was one of Lizzie McGuire's most likable characters. However, the best supporting character flew under the radar more than Kate or Ethan before Lizzie McGuire ended, and he deserves...

Despite being integral to the original series, Miranda Sanchez (Lalaine) is conspicuously absent from The Lizzie McGuire Movie. As a series regular in both seasons of the Disney Channel show, Miranda is one of Lizzie McGuire's (Hilary Duff) two best friends. Miranda, Lizzie, and David "Gordon" Gordo (Adam Lamberg) navigate the challenges of adolescence and the perils of middle school. Miranda is a likable Lizzie McGuire character who is a loyal and supportive friend to Lizzie. When Miranda makes poor choices, she always makes an effort to amend and learn from her mistakes.
When Lizzie McGuire ended after season 2, the story culminates with Lizzie and her fellow middle school graduates going on a class trip to Italy in The Lizzie McGuire Movie. To a passing observer, much of children's television may come off as crude or odd. A parent may see their kid watching something with bright, flashing colors and wonder what exactly it's doing to their development. Truth be told, a lot of children's media is designed to introduce youngsters to important life lessons, like the necessity of saying sorry. And even when an episode is about something as inconsequential as riding a giant boulder to deliver a Krusty Krab pizza, it can still become a touchstone in so many lives.
Kids are smarter than adults are sometimes willing to give them credit for. Those working in children's media surely understand that, which is why some kids' shows occasionally delve into darker subjects that may make some wonder if it's really appropriate for someone who's not even 10 yet. However, it's crucial for kids to at least have a baseline knowledge of...

When the much talked about Lizzie McGuire revival was ultimately scrapped, fans were left disappointed. However, Jake Thomas, who appeared on the Disney Channel show as Lizzie's younger brother Matt, says he hopes the project will eventually get the green light.
"I definitely still have hope for that," Thomas told Deadline at the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiere. "I think there's a lot of story still to be told, and I think that fans have made it pretty clear that they still want to see those characters and those stories again. I'm optimistic, but it's in other people's hands," the actor added.

In the history of tween-based television, there are few shows and characters quite as defining as Lizzie McGuire. From 2001-2004, Disney Channel viewers followed the relatable (and klutsy) character, brought to life by Hilary Duff, as she navigated middle school crushes, bullies, and all the other coming-of-age challenges she and her friends faced. The series concluded with 2004's theatrical release, The Lizzie McGuire Movie. The film sees Lizzie masquerade as an Italian popstar in Rome while on a school field trip. During the lavish adventure, she ultimately overcomes many of the challenges she faced over the years, as she finds herself and romance blossoms with one of her best friends, Gordo (Adam Lamberg).

We'll probably never know what Lizzie McGuire is doing in her adult years, but from Disney's point of view, that may be for the best. In the age of reboots and revivals, it was reported in 2019 that Disney was reviving Lizzie McGuire with Hilary Duff reprising her role as the titular teenager, now an adult navigating life as a thirty-something. This certainly made sense as Disney had successfully continued popular series like Boy Meets World and That's So Raven with Girl Meets World and Raven's House, respectively.
Behind the scenes, the project wound up falling apart, and it was revealed by the end of 2020 that the planned reboot was no longer moving forward. Anyone wondering what happened to change Disney's mind, look no further. Here's the saga of Lizzie McGuire — from its revival to its cancellation to a different sitcom project that Duff got to be a part of.

Though the Lizzie McGuire reboot never made it to air, writer Jonathan Hurwitz is opening up about what storylines fans could have expected in the first few episodes.
The show, which was set to follow a grown-up version of Hilary Duff’s character from the 2001-04 Disney Channel series, was canceled in 2020 due to creative differences between Duff and Disney+ executives.
In a recent TikTok video, Hurwitz said they wrote and filmed the first two episodes of the Disney+ series, and that the third episode was also written.
“Basically, it starts in New York,” Hurwitz details of the first episode’s plot. “Lizzie’s been working and living there as an interior designer, and she’s dating this very, very handsome chef. And she ends up finding that he’s been cheating on her with her best friend.”

Lizzie McGuire reboot plot details revealed: Lizzie is an interior designer in NYC, dating a cheating chef, then returns home to California. Original cast members would have returned, including Gordo. The revival was canceled because Disney was spooked by adult storylines, however, Hilary Duff remains optimistic about the series' future.
Jonathan Hurwitz, a writer on the now-scrapped Lizzie McGuire reboot, is sharing major plot details from the series. The original Emmy-nominated series aired for two seasons on the Disney Channel beginning in 2001; The Lizzie McGuire Movie followed in 2003. The series followed a teenage Lizzie, whose real thoughts and emotions are expressed by her sarcastic animated alter ego. A reboot, set to stream on Disney+, was announced in 2019, but by 2020, had unfortunately been canceled.
Now, through TikTok, Hurwitz has revealed information on what audiences would have seen Lizzie get up to in her adult years:

The reboot of popular 2000s Disney Channel sitcom Lizzie McGuire was cancelled. Now, one of its writers has revealed a few new details about its plot.
Hilary Duff was a huge star among pre-teens in the early 2000s thanks to her portrayal of the eponymous character in Disney Channel sitcom Lizzie McGuire – and its subsequent movie.
The show followed the awkward, klutzy teen as she navigated life, school with best friends Gordo and Miranda, played by Adam Lamberg and Lalaine. There was also her family – her younger brother Matt, played by Jake Thomas, and her embarrassing parents, played by Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine – whose brother David appeared in one episode as a mentor to Matt when he made his own kung fu film.
One memorable aspect of the show was the frequent use of an animated version of Lizzie, which represented her inner monologue. The show’s popularity led...

Fans are still hoping for the Lizzie McGuire reboot to happen!
Now, one of the writers on the canceled Disney+ revival is spilling some of the plot points that were to happen in the show.

These new details, as revealed in a TikTok video by writer Jonathan Hurwitz, point to the adult themes that it would have tackled in the first few episodes.

Reboots and revivals have become mainstream, but there has also been a trend of kids series getting adapted for adult audiences, like iCarly and Zoey 101, and some shows should follow in their footsteps. iCarly, which aired on Nickelodeon, ended in 2012, and nine years later, a revival series featuring a handful of the original characters as adults debuted on Paramount+ in 2021. Similarly, Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 aired its finale in 2008, and 15 years later, a sequel film will drop on the network's streaming service in 2023.
However, whereas the original shows were geared toward children, the revivals are more mature and meant for adults. The producers of the new projects understood that their initial target audience had grown up and would be less likely to tune in if the revivals were PG. Twenty years ago, tween-girl cinema thrived. Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Amanda Bynes kicked off the junior rom-com eras -- bringing their Disney and Nickelodeon fans along for the ride. Big-screen coming-of-age stories, family sagas, and whimsical made-for-television movies defined youth culture in 2003. Pop music became more accessible to children. Bright colors and Y2K fashion arrived in full force. Kids were paying attention to the media and products advertised to them.
As a person who turned nine in '03, I vividly remember this era of family films. They were hopeful, playful, and rife with young characters seeking adventures. I'll never forget when my sister and I saw our first movies on DVD instead of VHS: "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" and "What a Girl Wants." For millennial fans, Hilary Duff's Italian excursion has been on repeat as a literal soundtrack of our lives. Amanda Bynes' British battle of the debutantes sharpened our rebellious side.

Duff was also joined by Lalaine (Miranda), Adam Lamberg (Gordo), Jake Thomas (Matt), Ashlie Brillault (Kate), Robert Carradine (Sam), Hallie Todd (Jo), Davida Williams (Claire), and Kyle J. Downes (Larry). In addition to reading through the script, the cast couldn't help but sing the iconic theme song as well.

“Lizzie McGuire retro table read!” Duff wrote in the caption of the video. “We could not stop laughing reading lines from tween us…this is the first time we were all “together-ish” in almost 18 years!”

The cast of “Lizzie McGuire” has finally reunited –- though not for the much-anticipated series reboot.
Instead, Hilary Duff surprised fans by posting a Zoom table read to Instagram TV. The cast — including Jake Thomas as Lizzie’s little brother Matthew, Adam Lamberg as Gordo, Lalaine as Miranda and Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine as Lizzie’s parents — performed “Between a Rock and a Bra Place” to mark the episode’s 19th anniversary.
“We could not stop laughing reading lines from tween us,” Duff wrote in her caption. “This is the first time we were all ‘together-ish’ in almost 18 years!”
It’s been almost two decades since the show’s first episode. The formerly teenage cast is all grown up, and Lamberg and Thomas both sport mustaches.

In a statement on Instagram Friday, Hillary Duff called on Disney to move the planned “Lizzie McGuire” revival from Disney+ to Hulu.
The series, a revival of the Disney Channel sitcom that launched Duff’s career, was put on hiatus last month after showrunner Terri Minsky exited the series over creative differences with the streamer. Minsky explained her exit in a recent interview with Variety, saying that her plan to make the show more “mature” didn’t fit with the family-friendly Disney+ brand.
Duff’s post backed Minsky’s original vision, suggesting that Disney should move the show to sister streaming network Hulu where it wouldn’t run up on the same content restrictions. The “Love, Simon” spinoff series “Love, Victor” recently made the same jump for much the same reasons.

Lizzie McGuire‘s return to television will come by way of Hulu, at least if series creator Terri Minsky — who was fired as showrunner in January — gets her wish.

Disney Plus does not seem to be figuring it out on the way when it comes to the “Lizzie McGuire” revival.
Production on the show halted in January after the firing of original series creator and revival showrunner Terri Minsky after just two episodes were completed. Her unceremonious exit has led many industry insiders to speculate that the revival will not move forward.
Series star Hilary Duff has remained mostly mum on the subject, but she has made her feelings known in some not-so-subtle ways. Late Tuesday night, Duff posted a screenshot to her Instagram story of a news headline about the planned Disney Plus “Love, Simon” series. Now titled “Love, Victor,” the show was moved this week to Hulu after it was deemed not “family-friendly” enough for the Disney-branded streamer. In her post, Duff circled the words “family-friendly” in the headline and wrote above it “Sounds familiar.”

Little has been said about the Lizzie McGuire revival since it emerged that original creator Terri Minskey was bowing out of the Disney+ series after filming just two episodes, with the series going on hiatus.
Now, it seems like Hilary Duff is speaking out about the issues surrounding the revival of the beloved series.
Earlier this week, Love Victor -- an upcoming sequel to the 2018 movie Love, Simon -- was revealed to be moving from Disney+ to Hulu.
While no official reason was given, multiple outlets reported that it was in relation to the content of the show, with it featuring themes that were allegedly too mature for Disney+.
Duff took to Instagram, sharing the headline with the following caption:

Hilary Duff is (sort of) speaking out about the problems surrounding her postponed Lizzie McGuire revival.
Before we dive in, here’s some context: Earlier this week, it was announced that Love, Victor — an upcoming series based on the 2018 gay rom-com Love, Simon — is relocating from Disney+ to Hulu. Multiple reports indicated that the move was made because Love, Victor‘s mature themes, including sexual exploration and drinking, feel more at home on an adult-oriented streaming service like Hulu.

There are changes at the wheel of the Disney+ revival of Lizzie McGuire.
Variety is reporting that original series creator Terri Minsky is stepping away from her showrunner and executive producer role on the highly anticipared series.
“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series,” a Disney spokesperson explained.
“After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”
Creative differences are not uncommon when shows are early into production, but losing the showrunner and executive producer this early is not a good sign.
Minsky steered the TV series during its original 2001-04 Disney Channel run, so her exit this early into the process is surprising.

Lizzie McGuire is returning to our TV screens, and we couldn't be more pumped. In August, it was announced that Disney+ would be rebooting the beloved Disney Channel franchise for a brand-new series that follows a 30-year-old Lizzie navigating life in NYC. Though an official release date hasn't been announced yet, it's likely we won't have to wait too long to be reunited with our teenage hero now that filming is officially underway.
Production for Disney+'s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series this year started on Feb. 15, and the first season was eventually released on Nov. 12. If Lizzie McGuire follows a similar filming schedule, that could put the release date sometime around July 2020.
Over the past few weeks, we've been getting even more exciting tidbits about the upcoming series. In addition to getting glimpses of Lizzie's new style during filming, there have been quite a few big casting announcements.
